This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including the North Kaibab Plateau, Grand Canyon, birds and other wildlife.
Rita chose #731. Visitors are happily surprised to see “buffalo” when driving past meadows to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. They are actually an intentional bison/cattle hybrid descending from the early 1900s. They are prolific and destroying habits for the native species.
Lisa gets #27 for the number of words in her last comment. A 1974 print later scanned from canoeing above a beaver dam somewhere in the Upper Peninsula Michigan.
Sue chose #2021 from looking at my calendar. Though a brilliant sunset not a calendar worthy shot taken along the Colorado River near Ehrenberg, Arizona February 2020.
Diane and Nigel chose #1012, one of two in a panorama. A stormy view from Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Alan and random dot org chose 1009. A good place to spot lion in the morning while on safari, the warm roadway. Kruger National Park South Africa, first visit in 2010.
Cathy chose #6087. Nice view camping on BLM just outside of Joshua Tree National Park.
Gypsy chose #1234, “One step at a time.” Which is what you’d want to do around one of these crocodiles in the wilds on safari. This skull was on display at the Elephant Museum in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Jodee and Bill chose #4021. This sunset over Grand Canyon from the most remote place I ever drove to, Jumpup Point.
Doris chose #2063. Five Turkey Vultures sharing a tree on the Kaibab National Forest in northern Arizona. They are social animals and watch out for each other. Or, there was a carcass nearby.
Jo chose #2548. A view up canyon from Toroweap campground.
Sallie and Bill chose #7453. September colors starting to change the Aspen in the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Sherry chose #10. During 1990 I went to school at Western Washington University and spent some of my outdoor time at Padilla Bay where occasionally I’d see a Bald Eagle.
Jeff chose #1222, “the James Webb Telescope is to launch that day.” Ravens launch every day. (Did you see how I did that?) Seriously, at Bryce Canyon there seems to be an over familiar pair of Ravens at every overlook. This one I saw at the Swamp Canyon parking lot during a 2010 visit. But it might have still been there while I worked at Bryce many years later.
Tis the season. A 1969 version of tree decorating in my parents livingroom.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Absolutely wonderful photo’s here Gaelyn, I love em all and it was hard to choose a fav. Love those sunsets one along the Colorado River and the other over Grand Canyon. My fav has got to be the lovely Lion sitting on the road at Kruger National Park No 899 for next week please.
Thanks Rita. Lions and then the canyon are good choices. #899 for next week.
I like Toroweap Campground and the changing Aspens. Nice collection of photos. Next week # 0440.
Thanks, I’m not surprised by your favorites. #0440 for next week.
Oh wow, Gaelyn, my favorite just has to be the 1969 Christmas tree! Thank you for sharing these beautiful memories and images. I love that my choice brought up Toroweap and the next image was of another favorite, the aspens. Please could you use 2412 for next week. No prizes for guessing why I chose that number. Have a great week. Jo
Thank you. I am so glad you enjoy the memory shots too. #2412 for next week.
I love your colorful sunsets, and the rainy view of the Grand Canyon. I especially love your old scan of the
Christmas tree. Everybody’s tree way back when was similar. I remember how the tinsel would get everywhere and you would find the last remnants in July.
1056 is what random dot org says my number is for the coming week.
Thanks. I remember mom struggling to vacuum that tinsel out of the rug, in July. #1056 for next week.
As always a great set of photos but the stormy view from Point Imperial overlook has to take pride of place, it is amazing. The sunset from Jumpup point is also fab and the Christmas tree is lots of fun.
1712 for next week please and have a great weekend in the dessert, let the sun shine 🌞
Hugs and take care, Diane and Nigel.
Thanks. Monsoon was always a favorite at the canyon. #1712 for next week. It’s sunny 60°F.
Ah tinsel, the bane of small kid’s parents and dogs. Memorable fad. And The birds! I didn’t realize how interesting turkey vultures were until moving where they were. #1313 please next time. Take care. Gypsy
It’s the bane of cats too especially when they eat it. All birds are fascinating. #1313 for next week.
Always great photos and such a variety. I’ll select Toroweap as my favorite and as a destination remaining on my buck-it list. For next week I’d like 1225, with Merry Christmas wishes to you and your readers.
Thanks. Toroweap is so worth it. Get a permit and camp the night. #1225 for next week.
Only in your world is that sunset not a first-rate picture!! Love the lion and can only imagine coming across him in the middle of the road, just like it was a normal thing to see while driving! Adore it. “Our picture” is appropriate as I am still on a scenery high after getting my eyes full of beautiful Colorado aspens — yours are perfect as well.
I’m so excited for you enjoying your retirement and looking forward to your continuing adventures. 1222, my oldest granddaughter’s birthday. (She is the mother of four of our great-grandchildren).
Thanks. On morning safari it is common to see lions on the road. Surprised me at first. You are fortunate to see so much beautiful country when traveling. Glad you’ve made it back to FL this winter. #1222 for this week.
Your variety always makes me miss being on the road even though it’s just a few months! Glorious sunsets. The Joshua Tree pic is my favorite, love the subtle colors 🙂
#9913 for next week please.
Seeing the places visited before makes me want to go back. #9913 for this week.
My favorite this week is the black and white tree which looks just like the ones my family put up. Absolutely covered with tinsel. Did you guys place every strand or just throw it at the tree? Those seemed to be the two methods of decoration at that time. So funny! How about # 21 for next week?
No throwing tinsel at our house, that was Mom’s laborious job. #21 for this week.
