This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including Grand Canyon monsoon moods, Southwest colors, Rhino dung, and me.
Jo chose #8145. Though this shot is from 9-26-14, the colors recently looked like this on the Kaibab National Forest in northern Arizona. I love to see my autumn as I watch her South African Spring.
Cathy chose #1492. Yes, I tend to take photos of everything, including Rhinoceros dung complete with Dung Beetles as seen on my first visit to Kruger National Park, South Africa.
TreDeuce inadvertently chose #1953 in his last comment. The sandstone formations at White Pocket swirl and pillow in shades of iron oxide.
Jodee and Bill chose #1151. A closeup of the salt seen at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park.
Diane and Nigel chose #1510. Ranger Gaelyn in 2009, my second season working at Grand Canyon where Cape Royal became a favorite place to watch sunset.
Sue chose #1987, “the year I mapped Hells Canyon along the Snake River.” This shot of my horse Aces taken in 1987 when living in Wenatchee, Washington.
Gypsy chose #5512, the date she met her brother along the Arizona Trail. This is from the date (2-22-14) I woke up early enough to catch a sunrise over the Indian Ocean right next to camp in Scottburgh, South Africa.
Alan chose #6209. He’s been following my blog so long I think he’s seen Grand Canyon in as many moods as I did over ten summer seasons. My favorite days during monsoon when the clouds dance around like this shot of Wotan’s Throne seen from Cape Royal on the North Rim. My second favorite this week.
Sherry chose #4861, “the temperature outside and inside when I woke up this morning.” Hopefully that didn’t include rain which was coming at my Crazy Jug Point camp with another mood over Grand Canyon. My favorite.
Rita chose #1042. Lots of lush greens left even in early November just outside the Oregon Aquarium in Newport Beach. Best memory.
My choices from a Summer of fun in 1971. I’d have one more year of high school driving my 1965 Mustang convertible. I knew that carefree youth would soon be over so spent many days at a friend’s private lake in Illinois. Went on vacation with my family to visit cousins in southern California and we played in the mountains, and grandparents in Sacramento where I spent a lot of time in the pool. My boyfriend taught me to ride a motorcycle and my folks were not happy about it. Oh well.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?

Love all the photos of you always, so nice to see you over the years. Wotan’s Throne has to be the special one though by a small margin. 2210 for next week please. Keep safe and enjoy the weekend, retirement is fun though we find it very busy! Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thanks. How do you find the time to get things done? 😉
Lol…my picture sums up the past week. Need a trip to the Kaibab to get my energies realigned!! Love the pics of you and Aces. Favs would be Indian Ocean & Wotan’s Throne. Next week #2941 … let’s see what the brings!! Haha
Sorry to hear you had a dungy week. Kaibab is always good for the soul. #2941 for next week.
Hello Gaelyn, I love that you rode a horse AND an iron horse. I miss my biker and the thousands of kilometers we covered on our bike. I also love my choice: are those pine trees? Yes, it’s almost summer here in South Africa although the weather is very erratic. Ultra hot days, followed by cold weather the next day and now the wind is howling. My number for next week is 7000. Have a great weekend. Jo
I sometimes miss both those horses. The fall colors are Quaking Aspen. Nothing normal about weather anywhere. #7000 for next week.
Great collection! Love that Indian Ocean and Wotan’s Throne especially. Fun to find pics of you :-)) I grew up near the salt flats by Amboy, CA, where we would find interesting “rocks” of salt looking like quartz crystals.
3110 for next week please.
Thanks. Any “pretty” rock is fun to find, especially crystals. #3110 for next week.
So many great photo’s Gaelyn, Like the one of your horse, also the one of you on your motorbike. Those were the days when we had a motorbike and sidecar, I thought I was the bees knees thinking I could put my lipstick on while driving along in the sidecar.”Happy Days” Fav this week that gorgeous sunrise over Kofa mountains. No 9999 for next week please, have a great weekend.
Thanks. I can’t imagine putting on lipstick while riding in a sidecar. LOL! #9999 for next week.
Probably since seeing the dung, I saw giant white dung formations in the next photo:) I LOVE my dramatic photo pick, as well as the next stormy two…AND as much as your younger days. Always a great mix. P.S. Reading Jodee’s of Amboy, I remember hiking up the steep “wrong” side of the Amboy crater. Coulda gone around and seen the trail duh:)#413 please for my first trip to Cochise Stronghold in Dragoons and a yurt.
I usually equate White Pocket to ice cream instead of dung. LOL I’ve only looked at and not climbed Amboy Crater. #413 for next week.
Love the blasts from the past with you in them. Last year of high school. So long ago. What I remember is that I couldn’t wait to get out. Another favorite is my choice. I’ve had enough rain this year but rain over Crazy Jug is beautiful. Also love that little mushroom peeking out beneath the fern. The Rhino dung picture made me laugh out loud. Thanks. I can use all the laughs I can get. I’ll take number 1244 for next time. That’s the time right now as I push publish.
Thanks. While searching for numbers I often find some true oldies. I loved High School but wanted to move on to adult adventure, so I thought. #1244 for this week.
Great photos today. I did enjoy the blasts from the past. I did love the photo of you sitting on the granite boulders in what looks like a very familiar spot in the Mother Lode somewhere near Placerville maybe?
Thanks. All the oldies bring fun memories. I was in the Las Padres somewhere out of LA.
You were rocking that motorcycle!! I love your other old photos as well. The more modern photos, the rain at Crazy Jug Point camp or whatever you call it is wonderful.
I’m ordering a calendar but give me a couple days to get signed up with zelle and all that.
Thanks. I loved to ride but not during inclement weather. I have you down for a calendar.
I missed last week, but this week all your fotos are great, but Wotan’s Throne looks to be magical.
For next week I’d like 117, for the 1st time in the 117 years of the World Series the leadoff batter hit a homerun on his 1st swing. Go ASTROS!
Thanks. #117 for this week.
