This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including lots of Southwest rock, and this is my 3300th post, that’s a whole lot of words and pictures.
Sherry chose #9121, “for the day I have to leave Vermont.” Hope she’s not leaving because it will snow, something I don’t want to see anytime soon. This was my RV window view over the cemetery while living at Crazy Horse RV Park in Kanab, Utah during the winter of 2015/2016.
Diane and Nigel chose #2008, one of a seven shot panorama. White Pocket in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, a fairyland of sandstone. In 2008 I put together the other image as a birthday card to a friend from high school days. Sadly, he is currently in assisted living while dying of cancer.
Jeff chose #2625, “the street address of Fran’s childhood home, where we are now settled for a couple weeks.” I doubt this ranch even has a street address and I could settle there for a while, especially if they’d leave the old truck and it runs. Saw this when driving out of the Toroweap overlook 9-28-10. How about that raised deck?
Jodee and Bill chose #3511. The Needles District in Canyonlands National Park, another fairyland landscape. All of Utah could be a national park, but I don’t think the locals would like it. Visited way too briefly in September 2015 and really need to return.
Rita chose #3019. Smokey Bear riding in the 2014 4th of July water parade at the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Cathy chose #1493. My favorite place to watch sunset on the North Rim Grand Canyon, Cape Royal overlook at the end of their scenic drive. This from 9-14-09, my second season as a Park Ranger there.
Gypsy asked for #Moon as she’d just watched the last full moon rise. This may have been similar to her view. Taken in Congress 2-11-06 of the moon over the Weaver Mountains, Arizona.
Jo chose #8915, “being the commission I paid to the owner of the big house which I manage for holiday accommodation.” Sorry no commission, but hoping for a translation. Seen in her home country of South Africa while visiting Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during March 2014.
Doris chose #557. Won’t be long before the Quaking Aspen will turn yellow. In fact I saw a little color Tuesday on Bryce’s scenic drive. This shot was taken on the North Kaibab Plateau 10-12-11.
Alan and random dot org chose #2884. A different view from Cape Royal in mid afternoon with clouds dancing around Wotan’s Throne.
Sallie and Bill chose #9999, a very popular number so also a recent photo. From January 2020, my Darby Well camp view of Black Mountain backdropping lots of Saguaro cactus.
My choice, the bumper rocks from my last camp in the Dixie National Forest of Utah.

It’s all eye candy! Many wonderful vistas! I love them all. #8888
The seeing double shot was lots of fun to look at. Lots of stories could be imagined from all the different objects. Sorry about ,friends failing health.. #9752 for next week please.
Thanks. I used to play with cut and past images a lot. #9752 for next week.
Thanks. I truly like “eye candy”. #8888 for next week.
It’s been so dang hot, I like looking at the snow – just looking tho. I’ll take 3301, the number of your next post.
Sorry to hear about the heat, and probably humidity too. Good reminder for me NOT to go the midwest next summer. #3301 for next week.
Jeff’s Place_ #2675 looks like a nice place to hang out, though, it appears to be built at the bottom of a draw and I would be concerned about Spring runoff or the occasional cloud burst.
Jeff’s Place _ #2625 looks like a great place to hang out, though, it appears to be at the bottom of a slight draw so would be concerned about Spring run-of-the-mill and the occasional cloud burst.
Yes, nearly all of Utah should be a National Park.
#1113 for next week
The place along the Toroweap Road lies at the base of a big cliff but not so much in a draw. #1113 for next week.
#2625 Ranch Way – I believe that would be a wonderful address. Cape Royal always hits the top of the list for me. I would like to explore Canyonlands, down around Blanding and of course I need to stand at 4 Corners. Southwest vistas never disappoint. Next week # 2170
I like that addy also. Canyonlands is definitely on my return list. I stood at 4-corners in 1975 when three was nothing there but a mangy dog. and a hunk of concrete. I understand it’s very commercialized now. How could anyone not love the SW? #2170 for next week.
What a mess. Was typing blind as the comment box was nearly non-existent and I thought the first comment disappeared. The last comment obviously shows the troublesome intrusion of predictive texting. In this comment the comments box returned to normal. Probably an issue with my limited connection.
Kind of love the Needles District shot. Haven’t been there in a long time, since I camped at Squaw camp…gee they still have that name? I’ll choose 924 for the day that we plan to drive from Blanding to Newspaper Rock and the Needles with Mo’s brother and wife following along in their rig. We won’t have time to get all the way south on 12 toward Bryce, although I did try to figure out how we could do it. We will wave as we travel 12 and 95 from Torrey to Blanding.
I need to return to Canyonlands also. But I understand, time is limited, and Bryce is a bit off the beaten path. If I had the camper on the truck I’d meet you there. Another time. #924 for next week.
My favorite is the Needles District of Canyonlands. Next wee #1254 please
Canyonlands is amazing and I need to return. #1254 for next week.
What can we say, ours has to be a favourite here the White Pocket in Vermilion Cliffs is stunning and the cut and paste project is fabulous. So sorry your friend is in assisted living. My ex brother and law passed on with cancer yesterday. He has never been ill in his life, thought he had arthritis in his shoulder and went for an MRI 6 weeks ago. He was told he had stage 4 cancer, he had 6 weeks to get his life in order. Such a shock.
Take care and have a good weekend I will use tomorrows date out 40th anniversary for next weeks number 2808. Hugs from both of us Diane and Nigel.
P.S. Auchterlonie is a Scottish surname so not idea what it means here!
Thanks. Wish we’d gotten you to White Pocket, and so many other places. I am sorry for your loss. Don’t think I want to know if I have cancer and certainly don’t want to be told how long I’ll live. Happy Anniversary! Thanks for the info on Auchterlonie. #2808 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, I love your creative card; I’m sad about your friend’s illness. I loved the remote ranch with the truck in the carport. And I loved the moon shot; especially as it was hanging over a highway stretching into the distance. I’m fascinated that my number brought up a South African memory. Very interesting museum and WWI story about that settlement of borehole guards. I think the word is merely a surname of Scottish origin. I’m so impressed that you visited the Kgalaghadi. Grant and I visited it in 2000 in our Isuzu van. One of the few times we toured our country and continent on four wheels. My number this weeks is 2500; an amount I won in a radio competition this evening! Very exciting. Have a great weekend. Jo
Thank you for the compliments and concerns. The Kgalaghadi should have been visited in a 4×4 for a better experience, but was still cool. Don’t remember the story. Congrats on your win! #2500 for next week.
So many beautiful vistas! Canyonlands is the one park we missed in Utah so I love seeing your great capture here.
#9955 for next week please.
Plan to spend a week around Canyonlands. #9955 for next week.
Ohhh I love cemeteries, but never gone in snow! That’s a wonderful peaceful photo, my favorite, now I will seek a spot in winter. Reminds me, I’ve seen Lake Michigan off Lakeshore in dead of winter. Gorgeous. Thanks for the moon and hometown Gaelyn. I’m also partial to sunset shots and since Sandy and I do the mail walk/ride currently at cooler sunset, please enter one of your sunsets next week? I love this game/activity and brings joy to my senses, and yes this world.
The cemetery was a quiet place to live next to, but I can always do without snow. Will see about a sunset next week.
So many I could name as favourites here Gaelyn, but will start with those I really like The Needles District Canyon Lands Nat Part some of the shapes look like small houses I also love the sunset on the North Rim Grand Canyon and those specimens of rock at Dixi Nat Park, the large one looks like porphrey if my memory serves me well. Fav for this week is the spectacular view from Cape Royal around Woton’s Throne. Enjoy your weekend and Take care.
Thanks. Sometimes the sandstone rock does look like houses. The bumper rocks are basalt. #0196 for next week.
Sorry forgot to ask for a no for next week. 0196 Thanks
Beautiful photographs all. I loved the old ranch house photo the most. Reminded me of the government housing we lived in when I was a kid. We moved from Coyote, New Mexico to Payson, Arizona and lived in the same house!! The floor plan and everything was exactly the same. I thought it was magic. But then I was about 4 years old at the time.
8226 for next week
Thanks. That house does look like a FS house I once lived in too, in the 90s. How strange for you as a kid. Did it come furnished? #8226 for next week.
Loved the look backs at the amazing Southwest…those cacti lined up like soldiers! And all the beautiful rock formations. Take out a couple of cities and Utah pretty much *is* a National Park! ….. loved all of this. 555 next time?
Thank you. Love that about taking out the Utah cities and the stated pretty much is a national park. So true. #555 for this week.
