This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including grand canyon, other hiking destinations, and kindergarten me.
Rita chose #1960. A delightful morning storm over Grand Canyon from the North Rim Lodge taken 8-28-10. And because I was alive in 1960, I included six-year old me from kindergarten in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Sue chose #1969, “for the year my youngest child was born.” Taken three minutes after the above shot at Grand Canyon. And, this is a 1969 Ford truck I bought with award money from US Fish & Wildlife Service in 1996.
Jo and random dot org chose #2724. Sometimes conditions are right for clouds to hang low in Grand Canyon.
Diane and Nigel chose #1308, a panorama. Her birthday was yesterday and I wish to remind her of their visit to Cape Royal on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Jodee and Bill chose #531. They are currently traveling through Montana but I don’t want them to forget what a desert environment looks like. Though this was taken in northern Arizona, further north than their winter desert home.
Gypsy chose #2001, “for the year of Jeep Betsy, getting me great places for 20 years.” This place I’m sure she’d happily hike to when the Havasupai people reopen the trail into Havasu canyon and access to many waterfalls, including Lower New Navajo Falls seen here from my 2010 hike with a fellow ranger before our summer season began on the North Rim.
Sherry chose #3948. The Secretary bird, seen in Kruger National Park South Africa, gets its name from the look of pencils stuck in hair. This second shot because I wanted to see it processed, a multiple shot panorama of Delicate Arch from a brief 2015 visit to Arches National Park.
Doris chose #273. The kitchen in an older (70s) and slightly smaller slide-in camper I played in during winters past.
Cathy chose #8821. A similar view I’m sure she’s seen of fall aspen on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Alan and random chose #9404. This warm desert scene lies above The Wave in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Arizona. Soaked my t-shirt in that pool as it was a hot mid-August day.
Sallie and Bill chose #1959. Another birthday girl also from yesterday. It’s been a while since any of us tent camped. But the tent on the right is where I slept after a day hike into the Drakensburg Mountains with Jo’s son John as my guide nine days before my birthday in 2010.
My choice caught the first of August with cell phone as I drove to work.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
If you ever see an archived photo that you’d like to see in the next Geogypsy calendar please let me know.
It’s a tie – my favorites this week are the kindergarten you and the desert with waterfall. My granddaughter starts kindergarten in about 10 days. It’s amazing. You look so much more grown up than she. That’s my kind of desert, the one with the waterfall. Great picture! Where are you standing when taking it? I really must go see this when they open the trail again. The pencil bird made me laugh. What a name poor thing. Very fine picture of Delicate arch. I really like the long shot of it there among the other formations. Your wave pictures are always fantastic This one with the reflections especially so. Make it my 3rd favorite. HA! Another must do if it’s even realistically possible any more. For next week I’ll take 9121 for the day I have to leave Vermont.
I always think Celia has the look of an old soul. She’ll so love school. When the 2008 flood scoured Havasu that waterfall changed and was dug very deep so I am on a high bank. It’s a steep trail. The Wave is a much easier hike and now both require permits, when open. #9121 for next week.
Not a photo here that we do not like, I sound like a parrot, but we love your photos. I had a good birthday and a good lunch out which is very special after not being able to go anywhere for so long. If we really have to choose a photo, maybe Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, is a shade ahead but not by very much, and we always love the photos of you in the past.
2008 for next week please.
Have a good weekend and keep safe, hugs form us both, Diane and Nigel.
Thanks. So glad you got out for your birthday. #2008 for next week.
Again all fun phots, but your panorama with Delicate Arch brings memories of making that hike. I missed last week while on the road. I’d like 2625, the street address of Fran’s childhood home, where we are now settled for a couple weeks.
Thanks. Enjoy your time. Hopefully not smoky. #2625 for next week.
69′ flat front Ford truck!! My brother would love that! My wish list is a 4×4 short bed truck manual transmission no bell’s & whistles. Likely gonna be hard to find. Looking so cute in your kindergarten pic!! Aspens are so photogenic…in the Fall they are especially magical! I’ll be tumbling along like those tumbleweeds the next several days while making a change. I hope to catch up with you maybe as your Season comes to an end. Have a good week! #1493
I loved that truck! Especially the color. I’d like to hear more about this changes and hope you make it to Bryce. #1493 for next week.
Impossible to pick a favorite as these are all especially wonderful. We’re looking forward to seeing how green our Southern Arizona property is now 🙂 I’d love to have that pickup now – what a beauty!!
3511 for next week please
Thanks. I sure hope the desert gets green after all this rain. #3511 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, What a wonderful set of photo’s and all so different. Of course I love all the Grand Canyon ones especially that one of the clouds hanging low on Grand Canyon. Its like that here sometimes when clouds hang right over the tops of mountains and cling almost half way down which makes it look like the mountain is in the sky. quite weird sometimes. Fav this week, Lower New Navajo Falls. No 3019 for next week please. Have a good weekend.
Thanks. I thought you’d go for all the canyon shots. I love the inversion when it looks like land islands in the sky. #3019 for next week.
Oh Gaelyn, another great compilation of perspectives. You were a cutie. In #1308 I enjoyed your eye of seeing the island-mesa just level with the South(?) Rim? I was struck by the full moon tonight and thought of you; this moon phase being awesome to me also, can you serve up a full moon photo I’d appreciate it. I hope that’s okay instead of a number. #Moon:) or your pick Take bestest care.
Thanks. Wotons Throne is impossible to get anything but level with the South Rim from the rim. I missed the moon last night. Maybe tonight. Otherwise, see if I can find you a #Moon for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, I agree: another great collection of photos and stories. My favorite is the baby deer suckling on its mom. What a capture! And you were a cute kindergartner! I love The Wave vermillion cliffs which Alan chose. I can relate to the small tent in the foothills of our beautiful Champagne Valley. Well, I love them ALL . You continue to inspire me! My choice for this week is 8915 being the commission I paid to the owner of the big house which I manage for holiday accommodation. Have a great week. Jo xx
Thank you. I’m still thanking John for that wonderful Drakensburg experience. Sounds like a profitable holiday. #8915 for next week.
Lots of interesting pictures this week. I did a double take to see that fawn. #557 for next week please.
Thanks. Wasn’t that fawn cute? #557 for this week.
Love’em all. You were such a ham at 6 years old!! random dot org says 2884 for me next week.
Thanks. I’m still a ham. #2884 for this week.
Tent camping definitely brings back old memories — just what I wanted, thank you very much! Lovely variety of pictures from all over (places and years). Let’s see what happens if I ask for a high number next week for a change. Is 9999 the highest possible?
Not much for tent camping any more. #9999 for this week.
