This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including dramatic skies, colorful collections, South African wildlife, and old hippie art.
Sherry chose #4852. Standing at the rim of Crazy Jug Point watching the storm in awe and feeling the energy. Nice to have the safety of a camper nearby.
Jeff chose #2739, the miles traveled on this year’s still ongoing road trip. Part of the 5000 miles covered during my 2014 visit to South Africa took me to Mountain Zebra National Park where I finally saw a Cheetah. The second #2739 is a just because pick from 6-10-15. Just because inversion in Grand Canyon is a grand sight to behold.
TreDeuce chose #1357. Just before Colorado River mile 179 the sedimentary walls of Grand Canyon were covered by igneous rock showing where the lava from Mt Trumbull spilled over the canyon’s rim leaving behind Lava Falls Rapid with a rating of Class 10. Was a wild ride that I immediately wanted to do again.
Diane and Nigel chose #608. I know they are intrigued by slot canyons. Buckskin Gulch was my first slot hiked in 2009.
Jo chose #2205, the time of a guest house arrival. Here, one of many times to see a sunset over Grand Canyon from the North Rim Lodge, 5-29-15. #RangersGetPaidinSunsets
Jodee and Bill chose #347. Hard to believe I was wearing so much makeup in 2009 but I was dressed up for Berta and I going to dinner for my birthday. Don’t you just love all the cool stuff in background in Berta’s house?
Cathy chose #4207. A Waterbuck paused in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Notice a pattern of animal butt shots.
Doris chose #8754. In 2015, my birthday celebration took me to Grand Canyon National Park where one of my favorite South Rim canyon views happens at the Desert View Watchtower.
Alan and random dot org chose #5285 for a panorama. Another view from Crazy Jug Point the day after the first shot of the storm.
Rita chose #99. I used to be more of “collector” and certain items “Made in Japan” caught my eye. This was all destroyed in my storage shed during the 2013 Yarnell Fire. Four months after the first shot another #99 of my small knife collection that wasn’t in the fire.
I gave Sallie and Bill #55 for their comment word count from last week. And that goes back to my Junior year in High School, 1971, art class. Can you tell I was/am a hippie?
My colorful choice of yellow, orange, and red Paintbrush flowers seen along the roadway during last week’s exploration into Grand Staircase.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories.
If you ever see an archived photo that you’d like to see in the next Geogypsy calendar please let me know.
Hi Gaelyn, I love all these photo’s, there are so many individual ones which tell a story. Good shot of you in Berta’s house, which incidently looks just like my home for the variety of stuff hanging on walls The sunset over Grand Canyon from North Rim lodge is spectacular..Fav this week is Mountain Zebra National Park South Africa. Have a great weekend and stay safe. No 1960 for next week please.
Thanks. Sounds like I’d love your house decorations. #1960 for next week.
I guess the most delightful among all the gorgeous photos is of you in makeup! and Berta’s house stuff in the background. Loved this glimpse into another part of you life. I will choose 1969 for the year my youngest child was born.
I almost didn’t share that one barely recognizing myself with all that paint, and pounds thinner. #1969 for next week
Hi Gaelyn, my favorite is also of you all made up for that special evening and Bertha’s interesting house in the background. I’m wondering what happened to her home and collections. I love all the stories attached to your photos. My number for next week 2724, courtesy of random.org. Have a great week. Jo
Thanks. All the fun stuff in that house of Berta’s burned in the Yarnell Fire. She collected more that was mostly sold after her passing. #2724 for next week.
Everyone is a favourite but yes you have it right those slot canyons intrigue us. Love the cheetah and the waterbuck, not forgetting you all made up 😊 That first shot is also stunning.
1308 for next week please. Enjoy your time off. Very best wishes for a safe trip D & N
Thanks. I think slot canyons intrigue almost everybody. #1308 for next week.
Love seeing a birthday pic as today is Bill’s birthday!! Hoping to finally see Desert Tower next month on our return to AZ. That monsoon over the canyon is definitely my favorite.
531 for next week please.
Happy belated Birthday to Bill! I’m sure you enjoyed the Gravel Bar & Grill. #531 for next week.
I was tickled by seeing a rocker in your wheels. Class 10 rapids! And sometimes wonder how places get names like Crazy Jug. New to this, I’m not quite getting where to pick a certain photo, but I like random too. How about #2001 for year of Jeep Betsy, getting me great places for 20 years.
Glad you figured out how to comment here. I forget you haven’t seen my big house. That should happen this winter. Colorado River has it’s own rapid classification. I think Crazy Jug was an old cowboy given name. #2001 for next week.
I would love to be standing on that rim watching a thunderstorm and feeling the energy. We used to always go outside and sit on the porch and watch the rain roll into our valley. Great memories.
You really picked pics I like this week. Things I haven’t seen but would love to. A cheetah wild and free the way he should be. WOW! I’d love to see inverstion in the Grand Canyon and Buckskin Bulch slot as well. I need to get busy on my growing rather than shrinking bucket list. I was able to check off Desert view Watchtower whose architect I just love. I went more than once during our two weeks on the south rim.
Great picture of you strutting your stuff. You are as bright as those lovely paintbrushes. Either of your animal shots could have been a Judy Bell THE END picture. I sure won’t be first next week but I’ll try 3948.
I do love to watch storms but Crazy Jug is not a place that Wiona or Ruby could get to. My bucket list continues to grow also. #3948 for next week.
A picture of a slot canyon, always my favorite. #273 for next week please.
Thanks. I need to return to the slot now that I better understand how to photograph them. #273 for next week.
Favorite this week is Crazy Jug and the link. What a bundle of Canyon energy! The Butts make me chuckle. And the link for Lava Rapids is incredible.with a great pic of you by the River. I have only seen Lava from Toroweap & watched rafters size it up and take their turns hanging on! What an adrenaline rush whitewater rafting can be!! Next week # 8821
Thanks. Crazy Jug is so awesome but takes a bit to get there. Lava Falls was the most exciting rapid on the river. After through it I turned to the boatwoman and said, “can we do it again?” #8821 for next week.
Oh wow, some great photos here. Buckskin Gulch, the Canyon, I’d die to see a cheetah in the wild, your collections, Berta’s stuff. It’s an all star post for you (they all are).
Take care
Random dot org says 9404
Thanks. Lots of cool stuff. #9404 for this week.
Ha ha — I would wear that hippie outfit today! You had a fun art teacher/class! The cheetah was my favorite though and the Canyon views. Sweet stuff today as always. I’m in a nostalgic mood today so I will take 1959 for my next week.
Me too. #1959 for this week.
