This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including yard art, autumn at the North Rim, and an extreme in South African vehicles. Some memories bring tears to my eyes in both joy and sadness.
Jennifer chose #8383. She has an amazing yard full of nature and wildlife. My friend Berta had that too but also decorated with rusty stuff like this that caught my eye and camera.
Diane and Nigel chose #1607. She takes the best macro photos of flowers and insects. So this shot of a Checkered Puffball along the Widforss trail during late August 2010 on the North Rim Grand Canyon seems appropriate.
Alan chose #2767. Fall Aspen glow on this hilltop ten years after the 2000 Outlet fire burned on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Wanda chose #4646. I wouldn’t want to live long term in this “dream machine” but it would be perfect for overland travels, very smart custom designed Toyota Land Cruiser seen at the Getaway Show during 2013 in South Africa.
Cathy chose #3691. The VW I drove instead of the above parked by a dam (small reservoir) where I stayed at Rodene Farm Cottages in Ceres South Africa.
Doris chose #6057. October’s late light and clouds created shadows on the Grand Canyon as seen from the North Rim Lodge.
Sue chose #2045, “because even though I have no desire to live to 100, that is the year that would happen.” Life is about quality not longevity. I think Sue would agree. That was Berta’s philosophy too and she surrounded herself by things that made her happy. Like this colorful walkway to her front door.
Sherry chose #7031, “for the day I move next.” Unlike her lucky month long stay I moved almost every day while traveling through South Africa in 2013 and the pool below the Great Waterfall was a stop along the way and between mountain passes. Thank goodness I could return during the next year’s visit when this shot was taken.
Jo chose #8067. Rangers get paid in sunsets then add a touch of cloud inversion and it’s like overtime. From the North Rim Grand Lodge verandah 8-7-15.
Jodee and Bill chose #3101. Late light on the Inyo Mountains behind the boulders in Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California.
Rita chose #9999. Berta said she rescued the broken and cracked, and that definitely included more than china and toys. More yard art.
Sallie and Bill chose #8121, Bill’s birthday. About a month after that in 2014 I shot the Fall Aspen on the Kaibab National Forest in Arizona.
My choice is a sunset from last week’s adventure. I see a sea creature cloud emitting rays of light.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories.
If you ever see an archived photo that you’d like to see in the next Geogypsy calendar please let me know.
Berta had a vintage Tonka loader in photo #9999. Those old toys are classics! Put me down for #99 for next week, as my mom would’ve celebrated that birthday this past week.
A lot of Berta’s things were vintage, but usually broken. #99 for next week.
OK, today I’m going to be one of the first commenters rather than the last. My favorite today is the Bertha’s walkway. What a unique person and wonderful friend she clearly was. So sorry you lost her. The world without the ones we love is diminished. I also love Jo’s choice of the cloud inversion. That’s a picture I would love to have seen in person. How about # 6677 for next week?
Yes, it’s difficult to live on without the ones we love. But we do it and carry their memory with us. #6677 for next week.
Lots of favorites this week, the North Rims shots, Bertas front yard. #9788 for next week please.
Thanks. #9788 for next week.
Nice to get a Berta photo, but my favorite this time is the photo of the Alabama Hills. How about 309 for next week. The month and year that we camped in the Alabama Hills. Not the only year, but the one that showed up first when I searched my photos.
I’d sure like to return to Alabama Hills as it’s been too long. #309 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn Great variety of photo’s here and I love Berta’s colourful walkway and her Yard art. My fav this week is Octobers late night clouds at Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge. No 1214 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks. Berta’s place was always diverse and colorful. Yet it’s hard to beat Grand Canyon. #1214 for next week.
Sorry a it late in the day we had friends to lunch, a rare occasion these days! I love our macro, well done, and the shot of the October’s late light and clouds at the North Rim is fabulous, but I think that last sunset has to be our fave as well, it is stunning. 2307 for next week please. Have a good working weekend. Hugs from us both Diane and Nigel
Never late, and glad you could have guests. Rangers get paid in sunsets, even when not working. 😉 #2307 for next week.
My favorite this week is the light, clouds and shadows at the North Rim. So very beautiful. #1636 for next week please
Thanks. Grand Canyon is a tough place to take a bad picture. #1636 for next week.
Berta’s walkway makes me smile as I’m sure it does you. Colorful, happy & inviting. Love the North Rim inversion & the Alabama Hills. Next week #8201
I miss Berta’s colorful home as much as I do her. #8201 for next week.
I would have loved Bertie!
#7272
Yes, you two would have gotten along superbly. #7272 for next week.
I love the yard art and the cottonwoods the bestest, among your great photographs.
2055 for next week.
Thanks. Berta always had the best yard art ever. #2055 for this week.
Thank you for the gift of the golden Aspens (guess I was rushing things, for some reason I was a week early with the August 1 birthday choice!) Beautiful sunset view with the cloud inversion — and love all the views from Africa and closer to home. But honestly, the one takeaway from today is how I would have loved to know Berta! What a unique and beautiful soul — thank you for sharing the precious memories.
Birthdays should be celebrated more than just one day. Ask Alan about that. 😉 You would have gotten along famously with Berta.
Hi Gaelyn, the fall Aspen glow and October late light are two amazing images of light and shadows. I aspire to take photos like you do. I stopped and photographed an old disused railway line on the way to my friend last Thursday because it reminded me of your amazing photos of freeways and railway lines. I loved all the Berta reminders. Especially the Tonka toy, John had one when he was a toddler. Please may I have 917 which is sales I need to sell to reach a Top Sellers level in my Avon business. Have a great week. Jo
Thank you so much. Your photos are great and I love that you shot a railline. Berta has so many old toys. Good luck with sales. #917 for this week.
