This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including several shots in the Vermilion Cliffs, interesting vehicles, and a hint of where I currently am on a mini-vacation.
Rita chose #0832. A popular view from a wooden bench along the Bright Angel Point trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Sue chose #1993, “the year I ran Cataract Canyon.” 2010 was the year of my first journey to South Africa and here I’m seen hiking in the Drakensburg Mountains with Jo’s, see below, son John as my guide.
Jennifer chose #9292. The famous, and getting overrun yet still difficult to get a permit, Wave. Amazing lithified layers of sandstone from ancient sand dunes.
Jo chose #9653. House Rock Valley Road is never in great condition, worse after rain. Yet it’s the drive to the amazing trailhead leading to the above Wave via Wire Pass trail.
Diane and Nigel chose #907. An April 2009 view of Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell near Page Arizona. Today’s water level is way lower.
Alan chose #2610. The welcome sign for the Old Mill Lodge where I stayed in Outdshoorn, South Africa 3-8-13 and saw a reindeer and lots of ostrich.
Cathy chose #1427. When living at the remote North Rim of Grand Canyon it was a special day when the Flagstaff bookmobile arrived.
Sherry chose #4647. During my 2013 visit to South Africa I attended a travel show and found my safari dream machine, a decked out Toyota Land Cruiser.
Doris chose #1712. Driving east on SR89A from Kanab, Utah to Page, Arizona you can easily see the two lowest steps of the Grand Staircase, the Chocolate Cliffs below the towering Vermilion Cliffs.
Jeff chose #713, the day he started summer travels. So this shot was May 2009 travels on a short road from SR89A, as above, to Lone Rock Beach along Lake Powell.
Lisa chose #63. A scanned print from 1984 of my craft store window display in Tonasket, Washington for St Patrick’s Day. I changed the painting monthly. Very difficult to paint that large and especially as I wasn’t and still am not a painter.
Liberalwarrior chose #2047, “the year I hope to live to, but few more would be welcomed.” Another site accessed from House Rock Valley Road, White Pocket is also part of the ancient Vermilion Cliffs sand dunes.
My choice is a hint of where I am for my 4-day vacation from a visit almost three years to the day.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories.
If you ever see an archived photo that you’d like to see in the next Geogypsy calendar please let me know.
You have marvellous images. I love mine. It’s such a delicate balance between celebrating a site, and exploiting it. So many lack respect. Good work, Gaelyn! #8383
Thank you, once again. Too many of our natural places are being overrun by the uninitiated. #8383 for next week.
We have no idea where you are but I guess we will find out in due course. An interesting set of photos, but for us the wave stands out as a favourite, brilliant photo. Hope you are enjoying the few day off. Take care, hugs as always from us both, Diane and Nigel
Next week 1607 please.
The Wave is spectacular, and so is here. 😉 #1607 for next week.
I love the wave shot. I think I am the only one in my family interested in going so I don’t know if I’ll ever make it or not.
2767 for next week.
Thanks. The Wave is awesome, just a pain to get the permit. Plan a trip around that. #2767 for next week.
I had The Wave on my bucket list but due to health issues that will not happen. 4646 for next week please
I am sorry to hear that. #4646 for next week.
What a pleasant surprise with my pic. I would have never thought a Bookmobile AND from Flagstaff would be on a stop at the North Rim! Loving all the high desert pics. Even House Rock Valley Road! I bet it’s in questionable shape after the recent downpours! Stay safe as you continue to enjoy your holiday!! Next week #3691
I can’t imagine House Rock Valley Road is passable after three days of storm drop. Sadly, have to return home tomorrow. #3691 for next week.
My favorite? The wave, of course. But I also enjoy the picture of Bookmobile, reflecting everyday life even at a tourist destination #6057 for next week please.
It was very convenient that the Bookmobile came to the North Rim, though we did have a small library. #6057 for next week.
My favorite of course, was the Wave, right below my chosen number…I do hope that you have a restful and rejuvenating four days wherever you are going and get lots of great photos. next week 2045 because even though I have no desire to live to 100, that is the year that would happen.
The Wave is spectacular, but then so is the entire surrounding landscape. Wonder days off. I once thought of living to 100 but now don’t really care. #2045 for this week.
Love the Wave of course. Wonder if I’ll ever see it in person. The photographs are so fantastic.
The picture of you in South Africa is wonderful. What a fabulous background. It’s so tremendous.
I love the idea of a bookmobile at a national park. How wonderful for bibliophiles like me.
Do they sell your dream machine in this country? Could you really live in it? I’m afraid I can’t guess where you are. But I’ll try 7031 for the day I move next.
The Wave is awesome as is the surrounding landscape. I also loved having a bookmobile as I’ve always been a library geek. The dream machine would be tight living but really nice to take literally anywhere on safari. 7031 for this week.
Hi Gaelyn, I always love your road shots and was pleased to see I chose one. The rock balancing on the vermillion cliffs has me holding my breath! I’m sure when you visiting the “travel show” in SA, you saw the pure opulence with which our travelers and campers enjoy our country. Thank you for your prayers for the riots in SA. I choose 8067; 8000 a prefix to 67minutes for your community, which is celebrated today. In a massive cleanup, South Africans are in Durban and other centers doing much longer than 67minutes. Very heartwarming. Jo
I think the SA campers are not near as opulent as here in the states. Glad to hear communities are cleaning up. #8067 for this week.
I almost missed another Friday!! Time is just moving too fast now that we’re traveling again. Love those mountains in South Africa, so majestic!!!
3101 for next week please.
Traveling will make time change for sure. Loving your journey. #3101 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn some fab photo’s this week. Like your Craft Store Window shot. and the Mountains.in South Africa. Those Ancient Vermillion sand dunes is my fav.. Have a great week. No 9999 please.
Thanks. #9999 for this week.
Your pictures are stunning as always; I missed a week as we had visitors from out-of-town (wow, I hardly knew how to act after all this time). Favorites — all of them — it really is hard to choose this week. Can’t wait to see where you are (no guesses from me). Maybe 8121 next time? (Bill’s BD)
Thank you. Hope you had fun out of town and I just haven’t read about it yet. #8121 for this week.
