This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including several views of Grand Canyon and Death Valley national parks, flower, lizard, and a younger me.
Jennifer chose #1956. I don’t see many sunrises, but an early morning schedule at the North Rim Grand Canyon brought me to the Lodge verandah for this moody sky during late August 2010.
Cathy chose #9121. More to see than waterfalls in this South African national Park with colorful Augrabies flat lizards running all over the boulders.
Lisa chose #1213. A closeup of an Iris, the first spring flowers seen in Yarnell, Arizona.
Jeff chose #1947, the year Tia Juana Tilly’s opened, located across from his Tijuana dentist. This shot of the Colorado River upsstream taken the first time I visited Toroweap in the year 2010.
Alan chose #1630. Marble View, one of my favorite places to camp on the Kaibab National Forest and watch monsoon storms over eastern Grand Canyon.
Diane and Nigel chose #406. From my first season as a Park Ranger at Grand Canyon in 2008. I often hike in the comfort of a skirt as seen here at the Cape Royal overlook on the North Rim.
Doris chose #1016. After a full day exploring Death Valley, see below, the evening light shone over the mountains on the return to camp from Emigrant Canyon in October 2009.
Rita chose #1010. A fellow Ranger and I explored Death Valley including Augereberry Camp at the Eureka Mine.
Sherry chose #9999. Look closely for the Heron hiding in the grasses of a surprise wetland near Tecopa, California on the way to Death Valley, different trip than above.
Sue chose #1111, opposite of Sherry’s choice above seen at almost sea level. This view from the 11,000 foot Brian Head overlooking Cedar Breaks National Monument and the Dixie National Forest beyond, Utah.
Jo chose #1609. This could almost be a view from her South African home near the Drakensberg Mountains where I hiked with her son in 2010. Taken from Monks Cowl camp only days before that hike.
My choice, an old shot from 2015 looking north at the geologic Grand Staircase from LeFevre overlook. I was searching for an image to share at my Yovimpa Point geology talk. The top step, called the Pink Cliffs, is Bryce Canyon National Park.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.

Thanks. I was over the top excited to be working at Grand Canyon. #7103 for next week.
All the photos are great, especially that last one.
Random dot org says 5843 this week.
Thanks. #5843 for next week.
Favorite … hmmn? 1956 -1947- 406. All them put me in a fever for the high SW desert and the fragrance of hot rocks, dry grass, Sage, Pine, Juniper and water tank life. Cumulus clouds not to mention the arc of the far latitudes sunrises and sunsets, and particularly, low humidity, a respite from the high humidity of NE Texas.
Thanks. Does all that mean you are heading north?
“Heading north” _ Unfortunately… no. I will be, at a later date, make a trip to the NW to visit family & friends and that route might take me near Bryce.
Hi Gaelyn, I loved the Blue-headed lizard and the close up of the iris. My favorite is the last image – so many moods in that photo. Please may I have 3485 for next week, Have a great weekend. Jo
Thanks. I’ve made a panorama with that last view but it’s either too big or too small to share here. #3485 for next week.
Love my colorful lizard. Your 1st season at North Rim – I’m sure that was thrilling! I will be standing on that rock Saturday 🥰 and will whisper a hello to Cape Royal for you. Next week #9008
Wish I could join you there but will be working instead. #9008 for next week.
1898. B-date of my much loved and profoundly missed, paternal grandfather.
Put you down for #1898.
Never a bad photo and the lizard is lovely, but the favourite has to be our shot of you. Always like seeing what you got up to in earlier years. Take care and we hope your weather has now improved, we are now up into the 30’s Centigrade! Keep safe, hugs from us both, Diane
Thanks. Days into the 80s F, my kind of warmth. I’m giving you #30, for your temperature.
Awesome clouds at sunrise over The Canyon. Eldest grandgirl graduated high school on June 9th, for next week I’d like 6921 for Kg’s graduation date.
Congrats to your granddaughter. #6921 for next week.
The picture of you is my hands down favorite. LOVE the skirt. I really need to find some to wear hiking. I think I’d like it a lot especially if they have pockets. Any suggestions for where to find calf or ankle length skirts these days? Also love the shot of the Colorado from Toroweap. Saw the heron in my picture. I love that they seem to be in every habitat from Florida to Virginia to California. I’ll try 6152 for next week. This is SO great that I don’t have to type in my name etc every time.
Thanks. I find skirts like that at thrift stores, and they HAVE to have pockets. #6152 for this week.
