This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers and is heavy with southern Utah and Bryce Canyon mostly before working there with a little P&S camera.
Sue chose #2045, “the year I will be 100.” Although she doesn’t expect to get there she’d still be younger than the 200 million year old Vermilion Cliff sandstone at White Pocket.
Cathy chose #6598. Look closely for the Turkey Vultures eyeballing a road kill deer seen on the North Kaibab National Forest.
Doris chose #1203, “the number of tunes on my IPOD.” Add a new tune for “Hoodoo you think you are…” seen from Farview overlook at Bryce Canyon National Park during a September 2010 visit.
Jennifer chose #3100. From my first visit to Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa during March 2010.
Alan chose #1424. During the same Bryce Canyon visit as above I hiked the Navajo Loop down the Two Bridges side, seen here.
Diane and Nigel chose #1405. Also from the Bryce trip above I hiked up the Wall Street side of Navajo Loop trail.
Jo chose #3924. More Vermilion Cliff sandstone in northern Arizona with an arch.
Jodee and Bill chose #9201. Looking north past the Chocolate Cliffs to the Vermilion Cliffs, first and second steps to the geologic Grand Staircase, in southern Utah.
Rita chose #4791. The view of False Bay from my B&B in Glen Cairn. A delightful place to stay near Simon’s Town, Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain, penguins at Boulder Beach, and Cape Town where I flew out at the end of my first trip to South Africa in 2010.
Jeff chose #2000, “the year Salvation Mountain was entered in the Nation Registry as a Folk Art Site.” I’ve seen Leonard’s painted hillside in Niland, California with more colors than the walls of Grand Canyon as seen here from Toroweap, a place on Jeff’s bucket list.
Sallie and Bill chose #1108. This eastern view from the 11,000 foot Brian Head overlook near Cedar Breaks National Monument shows the Paunsaugunt Plateau on the horizon. That’s where Bryce is but on the opposite side of the plateau as seen here.
My choice is the shot I’m finally satisfied with, after many attempts, taken two days ago while Ranger roving at Yovimpa Point in Bryce Canyon National Park. Something about the curves draws my eye.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
I am a bit like a parrot, ‘all great photos as always’ but we do love the two shots of the Navajo Loop trail. Would love to do that hike but it will never happen. Of course the elephants are always special and yes we agree the curves in that last shot are interesting.
Hope all OK over there and that the weather is warming up a bit, Here it is just very wet and depressing, not a typical May at all. 2105 for next week please.
Keep safe, hugs from us both, Nigel and Diane
Thank you, I love to hear it, repeatedly. Hope I can hike the Navajo this summer for some better shots to share. Is warming up a bit, though I did get snowed on Monday. #2105 for next week.
I’m intrigued by Salvation Mountain. I went to their web site and still can’t figure it out except it seems like an awful mess to me. 2026 for next week!!
I’m not that happy about all the lead based paint on Salvation Mt. #2026 for this week.
The Bryce Canyon pictures this week are phenomenal! What a unique place. Number 1952 for next week, please!
Thanks. #1952.
Hi Gaelyn, as Diane says, the photos are always great. I love the hoodoos; they look like flowing blankets. I also love your choice – the curves certainly draw the eye, My number for next week, from random.org is 4325. Have a great week. Jo
Thank you very much. Hoodoos translates as “red rock people” but carries the colors of some native blankets. #4325 for this week, if I can get a signal again.
The views are epic, the rocks massive, your photos… amazing. #4100
Thank you. #4100 for this week if it happens.
I love Fridays so that I get to see all your spectacular photo’s Love the one of the elephants at Addo Elephant National Park South Africa.Have a great weekend Gaelyn and can I have No 1198 for next week please.
Thanks for that. Hard not to love elephants. #1198 if it happens.
I love mine best. You know why. I may never get there. 5921 next week for the date of my 2nd Covid19 shot.
I guess we can’t see it all. Many places I wish I’d gotten to when I still could. #5921 for this week if it comes together.
My top pick is all of the red sandstone you captured this Friday! I may only see Toroweap vicariously through your lens. But some day …
For next week I’d like 1140, the time Fran arrives back from Ohio tomorrow
Wonderful selection of pictures representing so many adventuresome days. I like my cool vultures. I see 3. They always amaze me soaring and circling in the sky. I know they’re looking for food but I do like watching them. Toroweap of course 🥰 Your angle shot at Bryce does lead my eyes to follow the curves. Nice capture. Next week #3406
Thanks. I too love to watch the vultures soar in their magnificence. #3406 if I can do it.
Thanks, guess I’ve seen a bit of red rock in the SW. Don’t give up on Toroweap. #1140 for this week if I can do it.
So much beautiful red rock this week! Vermillion Cliffs call me back, such an amazing area. Great shot of the curves :-))
#637 for next week please
I understand the call of red rock. But also all those ocean waves you’ve been spending time with. #637 for this week if I can put it out.
How did I not comment last week? SIGH! I know I read the post. Well this week the light in those Bryce pictures is just spectacular as is the shot taken from Toroweap (on my bucket list) and the photo that is your choice this week. 8576 for Next week please.
With all the issues I’m having getting online I could have missed you, sorry. Thanks for trying again this week. We may have to take a tour or rent a jeep to get to Toroweap. #8576 for this week if I can.
You are absolutely right about the perfectness of your choice — those curves do draw the eye, what a wonderful picture.. I enjoyed them all of course and wish I could do the hike you had a couple of pics of. (as in wish I could be there *and* wish I were physically able). Meanwhile, enjoyed the virtual hike with you. Maybe 1230 if you are able to post, I almost feel guilty asking .
Thanks. In Utah, most locals don’t/won’t wear a mask. Glad I did some of those hikes when I still could. #1230 for this week, if able.
