I’ve had it with struggling to get a signal strong enough to get online at home. Even with the booster my phone barely works for more than texts.
I’ve had it with the BS of Windows updates screwing up everything on my new computer. Now the phone and computer won’t talk because of an error “Network busy on Windows” that stops PDANet (how I tether my phone).
I’ve had it with software that won’t work because it needs updates and I’d have to be online.
I’ve had it with taking my laptop into town, or work, to get any signal at all. Town didn’t work for me today trying to load/post/schedule Foto Friday Fun. I really don’t want to go to the office on my days off. Working 40 hours a week is enough right now. And I may have had it with that too.
Yes, it’s a rant. Maybe it will go out, and maybe not.
No photos because I haven’t taken one photo this month. Besides, it wouldn’t have loaded anyway.
I’m at this same point in the school year. Your frustrations are 100% relatable and I’m sorry you are going through it right now. All there is to do is let the kitty and look forward to warmer days ahead.
My sympathies go out to you. May the force be with us.
I can understand the frustration you are experiencing. We went to the extent of getting a personal MiFi and the second it was turned on the carrier used up our High Speed Data with Updates leaving us with only the slower speeds. At that point it was difficult to add any pictures.
Since you have Photo Friday already to go just bring your Laptop with you on Thursday and post it before you leave at the end of your shift.
Be Safe and Enjoy the beauty of nature.
It’s about time.
I feel and share your frustration even in town with good service. It’s a world of technology and one that I struggle with at times as well.
I truly enjoy the technology, when it works with some consistency.
Thanks for commiserating. I reached the proverbial straw today. I went into town and got enough signal to maybe solve part of the problem. Also scheduled Foto Friday Fun. Maybe now I can relax a bit for my next two days off.
With record number of visitors to the parks, I side with there needs to be better cellular access. I suspect any added bandwidth would be used up with meaningless selfies. I’m grateful that CalFire responded to haul my stranded butt down after a fall. Cell service was a half-mile hike from the fall, quite convenient when compared to many NPs.
PCs and Cell Phones are such a part of our lives now, but it is indeed frustrating and expensive to make use of them.
Much busier already this year with a different crowd that truly wants to be connected with even more than nature. Also rough on those who work and live in the park to even take care of personal business when the signal is unreliable. Everything is done online these days.
I’m thinking retire . It is like winning the lottery every month….
Trust me, it’s a consideration.
Oh wow, I get it on a different scale. I love what computers do but the technology fails us. Not everybody can afford to buy a new computer every three years or so. You know a television just works. You turn it on and you see a picture. Why can’t a laptop be like a television? For people out in the boonies, like you, it is a thousand times worse. The country needs a major infrastructure overhaul and I am not talking about just roads.
I too love what the computer can do, yet does seem that some “updates” aren’t any better than their predecessors. NPS has put off keeping up with the tech. I totally agree about infrastructure overhaul in many public affairs.
Join the club, as sad as it is…I got my statement from Home Despot the other day..I pay all accounts fully b/4 billing day..I had a zero balance and charged $8.53 last month..So?..The billing was for $28.sumthing..WTF?.called the # got someone on the other planet and said that’s what it is..
Went to my local store, not our issue..F’d it after this effort..Paid them the theft amount and tearing the card up.
Off to Lowes from now on…
Where have all the real peeps gone?..Yeah I know, more $$ getting unemployment..Sheesh!
Love your pictures, all these years! And North Rim…
That totally sucks! I too pay off bills before due and thank goodness not many of them. Thank you for the compliment about my photos. Hopefully, things will change and I’ll get out there to share some more. And have enough signal to do so.
I wanted to close out Jerry’s and my joint checking acct. after he died. Was told I should wait six months and to leave just enough in the accnt. so as not to pay a monthly fee. When I checked my monthly statement last week there was a withdrawal from Norton for $148…..an auto pay from Jerry’s card. I had cancelled his acct. with Norton and opened my own acct. months ago. What the hell.!……So then I had to transfer some money into the joint acct. to bring it back up. Went to town on Wed. and closed the acct. But now I have to go back because he said it will take about an hour to get Jerry’s name off of it. even though the acct. is closed. Duh!~~
Windows makes me crazy too….especially when traveling with my little computer that doesn’t have a lot of memory and they keep wanting to update which takes up memory. Leave me alone please!~~~
Good luck with your signal. I was told by Verizon that I won’t be able to use my phone up on the Rez. Verizon doesn’t have towers up there. I can live without it for a couple of weeks….I hope.
Technology is not always easier or simple, but it is what’s available. You can usually put off Windows updates for a little while.
Ooops you really do not sound happy but I can well understand the situation. We at least have a signal be it a very slow one, but even that I find very frustrating. I feel for you, take care warm hugs Diane
I’d reached a breaking point, thus the rant. Oops. But it is very frustrating when people in government housing have WIFI yet the campground does not, for almost the same rent no less.
Hmm. I would say that if you can manage to retire, it might be time to do so. It’s a lovely life. As you know from your time not working, we can manage with much less than we think we can, and that is especially true in retirement. I spend a lot less money than I used to and don’t miss it a bit. I am lucky that my retirement income from my career is adequate, although when I look at the actual number it seems like I shouldn’t be as comfortable as I am. Anyway….with the increase in obnoxious people at the parks, the trouble with crowding and internet, and dealing with the weather in a place that doesn’t often warm up till August….why wait? I’ll look forward to seeing how all this plays out. Just hang in there, Gaelyn. There might be a small percentage of people who will truly appreciate your geology talks more than taking selfies and giggling. It is the giggling that drives me nuts when they all gang up with their selfie sticks giggling, as they just as easily might giggle their way over a cliff. And I’m not even a ranger having to deal with it, just a visitor as well. ACK! I do hope the park system will figure out that reservations are the only way to go. I would wait 2 years for a reservation for a better experience. I answered that once in a questionnaire a few years ago at Pinnacles.
Retirement is certainly a consideration but more involved than just walking away from this job. I too find the selfie giggles ridiculous. Way more of that this summer than last. Agree, reservations are the way to go to keep the numbers down and make for a better experience.
