This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including lots of Grand Canyon, a bit from South Africa, and some other rocky shots.
Jo chose #1007. After stopping for cookies at Jacob Lake I drove past the road closed signs and on to the North Rim Grand Canyon for my second season. Very special to be in the park before it opened.
Sherry chose #9203. Rather a challenge finding Quaking Aspen near the rim of Grand Canyon and they are so marvelous wearing their Autumn gold.
Diane and Nigel chose #2304. These hoodoos were seen from Tuweep overlook along the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Cathy chose #0003. The beginning of the partial annular eclipse I was fortunate enough to watch, safely, from the North Rim Grand Canyon in 2012.
Alan, and random dot org, chose #2507. Beyond Sky Island to the east and across the Grand Canyon lies part of the Navajo Reservation in Arizona.
Sallie and Bill chose #413. Two days after opening the North Rim for 2008, and my first season as a Ranger at Grand Canyon, found me on top of Angels Window looking southeast past the Vishnu Temple with the Colorado River far below.
Jennifer chose #0424. Up, up, and away, on a misty morning at Pilanesberg Game Reserve. A different, and extremely expensive, way to safari in South Africa. That’s why this shot is from the ground.
Doris chose #5147. Mom and her calf Waterbucks seen on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa in 2014.
Jodee and Bill chose #1652. An unidentified butterfly along the Sterkspruit Falls trail in the Drakensburg Mountains of South African during my first visit in 2010.
Rita chose #0193. If you ever rent a cabin on the North Rim Grand Canyon try for this rim side view from your porch. Think almost a year in advance for reservations.
Lisa chose #34. As a Ranger at Mesa Verde National Park in 2005 I spent time roving in Spruce Tree House located a short walk below the park’s museum.
My choice this week is not from Bryce Canyon, though it may have looked similar a few days ago. Instead this is the western edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau near Cedar Breaks National Monument seen on my drive back to Bryce from Cedar City to shop.

Do you have a favorite this week?
After two hours trying to load this post last night I gave up. After four hours this morning with same problem I came to town just outside the park to get propane and a signal. If this persists, you may not hear from me.
Beautiful North Rim. I do try to splurge and enjoy a cabin once a year. And yes! Have to think about that in advance to get a reservation. Hope 2021 goes well for all the National Parks 🥰 My pic 0003. Lol. Did I just pick this same # recently? Doesn’t matter cause I still love the linked photos & story. Next week # 4818 Have a good weekend!
The North Rim is worth a splurge. You got a different variation of the eclipse last time. #4818 for next week.
Spectacular series of photos and no particular special favourite. You do hang out in some very special places 😊. 3004 for next week please. Have a good weekend, warm hugs from us both. Diane and Nigel
Thanks. I have been lucky in my travels. #3004 for next week. All the best to you both.
I think Sherry’s photo of the canyon and the aspen was my favorite. Such great color and a gorgeous view. Been a bit absent lately, so thought I needed to get back in on your photos post! Next week…7721…birthday of a good friend coming up.
I like that shot too because it’s so hard to find aspen at the rim. You have good reason to be absent out there on the beach. #7721 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, the annular eclipse is again my favorite and the deck view of log cabin 309. We see those airballooons being transported along our roads and yes, I, too, will always be photographing from the ground. please give me 6373 from Random.org. Thank you for your kind words on the loss of my precious kitty, Ambrose. Have a great week. Jo
I’d like to ride in a hot air balloon but was appalled by the price there, especially with more time on the ground than air eating and drinking champagne (I wouldn’t want). #6373 for next week.
Beautiful photos but I love the ones of the North Rim as they always bring back fond memories of our years up there as Volunteers.
Thanks George. Fond memories for me too. I miss that big ditch.
All your photos are great! Sherry may have made the best pick, but I would like 2012 for next week. The year we saw the full Ring of Fire from Bryce Canyon.
Thanks. Interesting that you were here and I was at the North Rim for that eclipse. #2012 for next week.
I think it interesting also that I was in Mesa Verde for its 100th Anniversary, with special permits to join guided hikes below the rim. I think you were there then too! I believe the hikes are now available to the public … with advance tickets on a limited basis
I love especially the aspen pic by the Grand Canyon!!
5660 for next week
Thanks. My fave this week too. #5660 for next week.
I do like seeing the aspens and the s every from all over, but “our” picture is my favorite this week…spectacular, all those layers and colors in that cliff. I will take 5121 next week. If I may.
Thanks. The SW stratigraphy can hardly be beat. #5121 for this week.
Hi Gaelyn – Great collection of photos, as always. I love the Grand Canyon shots. For next week #6789
Thanks. Hard to beat the Grand Canyon. #6789 for next week.
Really well done! Amazing photos. Have I said that before??!! #6998
Thanks. I believe you have said that before. My ego loves it. #6998 for this week.
Hi Gaelyn, Nice photo’s this week especially those of the G Canyon. Love the Quaking Aspen Nr the rim of Grand Canyon and I would love that cabin on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon However, my fav this week is looking across the Grand Canyon where the Navajo Reservation can be seen. No 4129 for next week please. Hope you are now settled at Bryce. Stay safe.
Thanks. Lots of canyon last week. Mostly settled in. #4129 for this week.
The winning picture this week seems to be of the Quaking Aspen. I would agree. #9101 for next week please
Thanks. My favorite pic also. #9101 for this week.
Love my picture. So beautifully framed with the aspen around the lovely canyon peaks in rows in the distance. The color in all of your canyon pictures is so rich especially the one from on top of Angel’s window. I imagine you miss being there even with the beauty of Bryce. Mesa Verde is a place I want to return to. Spruce Tree house and the other dwellings are just amazing placed as they are beneath the ledges. Great post. I’ll try 7121 for next week.
Thanks. Seems everybody loved your photo choice. I do miss the big ditch. #7121 for this week.
