This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including lots of wildlife, places on the Arizona Strip, and little ole me.
Cathy chose #4587. Breath of the dragon. A fog filled view of Grand Canyon typically disappoints visitors to the park. However, when working as a Park Ranger I saw many moods at the canyon and knew the fog would lift eventually. This shot taken from Cape Royal on the North Rim 8-3-14.
Lisa chose #68, “for the number of miles we paddled last week while the wind was blowing against us.” Spike never seemed bothered by wind in his sunken enclosure at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield, California where I was a volunteer animal keeper in 1989. Believe it or not, porcupines have noses soft as velvet.
Jo chose #7870. Maybe she can identify this bird is I saw at Addo Elephant National Park in her homeland of South Africa.
Yogi chose #7975. An attempt at night photography in Yarnell, Arizona. Can you see the crescent moon and Venus over the Weaver Mountains?
Sherry chose #4010, “since I get my second COVID shot in 8 days.” Don’t think these playful zebras and giraffes were running to get a vaccination in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #204. This might have been my first visit to Zion National Park in 2008 and the shot was taken while on the Riverside Walk along the Virgin River.
Jennifer chose #862. More zebras, getting rather frisky, seen at Kruger National Park, South Africa during my first visit in March 2010.
Rita chose #2218. A colorful sunset over the Weaver Mountains from my Yarnell, Arizona home in 2018.
Doris chose #5000. A city park in Kanab, Utah from when I lived there in 2015.
Sallie and Bill chose #46, “for our oldest great-grandson’s birthday.” It wasn’t my birthday at 1 1/2-years old in 1955.
Jodee and Bill chose #556. This dry wash is the first part of the Wire Pass trail that leads to the Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon trail in southern Utah from the first time I hiked it in 2009.
Jeff chose #156, “the combined score as Baylor dominated Gonzaga.” Is he talking in an ancient language? LOL! Because these buildings are rather old seen at Lee’s Ferry along the Colorado River in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Arizona. This is where I’d planned to camp last night, but it was full.
My choice was taken recently along Iron Springs Road between Kirkland and Prescott, Arizona. I’ve seen this nest for years but it was the first time I saw a Redtail hawk there.

Do you have a favorite this week?
I seem to be running behind along my journey northward to Bryce Canyon. Not that I’m late getting back to work, but I drove over five hours yesterday and was too exhausted last night to get this post out. But what the heck, it’s still Friday.
Hello Gaelyn, thanks for the great selection of photos. Raptors are notoriously difficult to identify as this may even be one which is still juvenile. My favorite is of you as a little girl. Please may I have 5103 an amount in my booking documents which I cannot reconcile. Have a great week. Jo
Thank you. I thought that bird might be immature and difficult to ID. #5103 for next week.
I really like the river shot at Zion, and the Lee’s Ferry Buildings. Those guys that built those stacked stone houses really knew what they were doing.
3170 for next week!
Thanks. More reasons for you to come west. Masonry like that is a rare skill today. #3170 for next week.
68 miles into the wind… wow! Reminds me of times during my paddle transiting the Sea of Cortez from Rocky Point to Mulege back in the 70’s. Don’t think we ever came close to 68 miles in those wind on the nose paddles.
Some interesting pics in this post.
Another severe weather and tornado advisory just posted for the area.
Thanks. I am SO tired of wind! Be safe.
Hi Gaelyn I always like the photo’s of you The River side walk at the Zion Nat Park is another great photos but my fav is the one I chose last week of the Sunset over the Weaver Mountains at Yarnell. I hope the rest of your journey to Bryce will be good Take care and stay safe. No 7776 for next week please. Enjoy your week end.
Thanks. Aren’t that many baby pics in my files. Yarnell was such a great place for sunsets. #7776 for next week.
Not a photo here we do not like and we could pass a comment on everyone. But our shot is spectacular, love the 1 1/2 year Gaelyn and the porcupine is amazing. As for photos in South Africa well…….
904 for next week please. Take care, enjoy the weekend and rest a bit if you can. Hugs from us both, Nigel and Diane
Thanks to you both. Wildlife from anywhere is awesome. I believe our porcupine is very different than the SA. I’m working on the new laptop so busy but just moving from one side of the table to the other. #904 for next week.
Lots of interesting pics. Yarnell night sky and Breath of the Dragon are my pics this week. Safe travels as you continue North! Next week #0008. Takin’ it low to mix it up a bit. 😄
Thanks. I love when someone puts in 0s. #0008 for next week.
Many great animals this week! The porcupine is cute, and I love to see the zebras and giraffes running wild. So fun! I hope you have time to get settled in at the park before the season begins. Number 1640 for next week please!
Thanks. Move into 5th-wheel Sunday and start work Monday. I’m thinking this first 40 hours is going to kick my butt. #1640 for next week.
Always great photos. I find the wash at Wire Pass begging to be see what’s around the corner. After the longest draught in MLB history, 8205 regular season games my Padres finally became the last team to pitch a no-hitter.
The whole trail and on to the slot is like that. Sure glad I went before it got crowded. #8205 for next week.
Not the first time I’ve pulled up a part of that beautiful canyon. We’ve only been to the entrance so I’m thinking there’s a message here to go see more! Love all the critters this week. Giraffes always look so silly when they run 🙂
1739 for next week please.
Zion is too crazy for me to visit anymore, maybe winter. #1739 for next week.
Another group of fine photos of various subjects. Good luck getting back in the work grove. #6857 for next week please.
Thanks. I feel like the first week of 40 hours will take some getting used to. #6857 for next week.
You had every reason to be a teeny bit late posting, but I have absolutely none for being late to visit. You were a cute and happy little towhead! I’m glad you grew up to be an adventurer, because the animals from your South Africa adventures are incredible. It’s amazing to see the giraffes and zebras together just running down the road. Thanks for sharing all. How about 818 if I’m not too late for next week. (It’s the time, No coffee yet, can’t think of anything else ))
Now that I’m back to work, first day, I feel like I might be late posting and reading more frequently. #818 for this week.
