This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by eight readers including astronomical events, Toroweap, and drive-by views along the various SR89 highways of the Southwest.
Cathy chose #0016. This is towards the beginning of the 2012 annular eclipse that I shot at Grand Canyon. You should really check out the post if you didn’t see the rest of the story.
Diane and Nigel chose #2201. Directly across from the Tuweap overlook this side canyon on the south side of Grand Canyon looks like a giant heart to me.
Jodee and Bill chose #347, a panorama. While hiking the Cliff Spring trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon there is a lot of erosion created shallow caverns and this is looking up at the ceiling edge.
Lisa chose #1315. I take a lot of photos while driving—no lectures please—and I’ve driven Arizona SR89 many times. This would be part of the Painted Desert on the Navajo Reservation north of Flagstaff.
Jim and Diana chose #723, “the number of words in Amanda Gorman’s ‘The Hill We Climb’, which just blew us away. Loved that she finished it with her version of the motto of our blog ‘Don’t just see it…BE it.’ Truly an inspiration I cannot elaborate on. So I’ll share another drive-by along Arizona SR89 further north than previous of Echo Cliffs.
Rita chose #2067. Another shot taken at Tuweep/Toroweap looking up at the moon from behind camp.
Sallie and Bill chose #940. Yet another SR89 but this time driving east of Page and looking to the Grand Staircase Escalante, Utah.
Sherry chose #4664. Fireweed at the North Rim Grand Canyon, not seen frequently there. I like it as one of the first wildflowers I learned and saw a lot of as a newbie Ranger at Mt St Helens, it was everywhere as a disturbed area flower.
My choice from the Kofa NWR is from the end of last month with the same view I’m enjoying today with even more clouds. Oops, a little late this week. By the time I got moved yesterday the focus was trying to shoot the full Wolf moon with mostly cloud cover and then I ran out of power, in more ways than one. My computer is not healing and the mouse is sick too.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Great photos all!! I love the southwest, as I think I tell you every week.
Next week is 4989
Thanks. The SW is in your blood. #4989 for next week.
Oh my word the weeks just fly by,Friday again already. Love the variety of photo’s here Gaelyn, and my favourite is Tuweap Overlook on the South side of Grand Canyon. I agree it certainly does look like a huge heart shape. No 7211 for next week please. Be well and stay safe.
Yea, where does the time go? Busier when retired than working, almost. 😉 #7211 for next week.
Wonderful photos and narrative. Hope all is well and dug out from the recent snow.
Thanks. So glad I didn’t have to dig any snow.
As ever a very hard choice, but I think our photo just wins by a short nose, love the heart. 2901 for next week please. Virtual hugs, Diane and Nigel
Thanks, and I agree. #2901 for next week.
I love wildflowers so my choice was great. Your eclipse picture too was one of my favorites this week along with the painted desert. I’ll try 4642 for next week.
Thought you’d like the flowers. #4642 for next week.
Sr-89 and Sr-91 which goes from one countrie’s border to another. Two of my favorite highways.
I watched the Wolf Moon rise next to the new grave of my long time partner. We always made an effort to watch the moon and full moon rise together and the sunsets. Thirty three years ago I named her Two Moons because of her big infectious smile.
Over the years couldn’t always be together because of obligation to elderly parents and my far flung projects and adventures, but we finally made that permanent connection last July and shared a life together for to short a time. A special, precious love that endured through time.
We had hoped to get back to the SW where she spent time as a child and the NW where she spent time as and adult, but her frailty was an issue as was near constant doctors and hospital visits. It was hard to get away. I will carry her irrepressible spirit with me in my travels far from her Piney Woods of NE Texas.
Followed the link on the Annular eclipse. What an incredible series image you captured. Welders filter is pretty cool too! Nice Friday collection of pics of places I love. Thank you! Next week # 0415
Thanks. The series is a composite that was fun to put together. #0415 for next week. Thanks for choosing numbers that start with “0”, they get ignored otherwise. 😉
I am saddened to hear of your loss yet know you’ll carry those memories forever. Only time can lessen the pain. Be well, safe travels.
Seems I forgot to summit a number for last week. How ‘bout 2255 for next week.
It happens. No biggie. #2255 for next week.
As always a beautiful collection. It is amazing how much beauty and interest there is to see on drive-bys ..especially in your part of the country, but here in the Northwest too.
Ooops, # 7260 next time? Is this really your 400th Foto Friday? Wow! Congrats and thank you!
Thank you. If I stopped driving for every shot I’d never get anywhere forward. Beauty is all around us, as you know so well. Yes, can you believe I’ve stuck to this 400 times, but then so have a lot of you. #7260 for next week.
The ‘Heart Canyon’ is really unique and the picture was directly across from Toroweap! … someday …
Whoot-Whoot!!! it finally rained! For next week I’d like 129, it finally rained – poured – on Jan 29th.
Toroweap is a heart-filled place. I have also seen a heart-shaped in flat rock that might fill with water when it rains. I hope you went out and danced in that rain. #129 for this week.
Kofa NWR is beautiful! I’m glad you’re ok– Wednesday’s post had me a little worried. I love the drive-bys, too. The painted desert is unbelievably beautiful. I think I would be distracted there, camera in hand or not.
I am happy to be back on the Kofa and could just enjoy the views all day. Hey, I do that.
ah yes, the fireweed was a fun photo and brought back great memories of mapping fire ravaged landscapes in the Selkirks surrounding Priest Lake, Idaho. Your other photos may have been more “beautiful”, but as Nina asked in her blog today, what do you see as beautiful? For me, it is light, and you as well are a great photographer of light, Gaelyn. The fireweed reminded me of the brilliant like of the mountains of summer in Northern Idaho in 1977. My choice for next time.
I really like when my memories can invoke memories for others. I’ll bet you saw a lot of fireweed. Thank you for the lovely compliment. Photography is about capturing light. #1977 for this week.
