This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including wildlife, lots of national parks in Arizona, California, Utah, and South Africa.
Susie chose #1010. My first sighting of lions on my first day of visiting Kruger National Park in South Africa. Headed back to camp before sundown, lions often cause a traffic jam as they bed down for the night on the warm pavement. BTW, they are HUGE. Many lions walked by within five feet of the small pickup truck I was in.
Cathy chose #0317. I have visited Death Valley National Park many times but the best by far was the Super-bloom of February 2016, even if this was a windy day.
Jennifer chose #7654. It’s relatively common to see Bighorn Sheep in Zion National Park, Utah. This youngster was seen during my last visit in January 2016.
Diane and Nigel chose #2011. They will understand how nervous I was hiking past these Baboons in the Drakensburg Mountains of South Africa. Even though they were far away, this shot is zoomed and cropped, they closely watched us watching them.
Sherry chose #5319, “That’s this week’s campsite number and next weeks.” Took this shot from a favorite camp with no number at Crazy Jug Point on the Kaibab National Forest. Was trying for artsy-fartsy framing the view across Grand Canyon and through the saddle to a peak beyond.
Rita chose #798. These balancing rocks called Toadstools occur when a boulder falls from the harder cliff onto soft sand then protects it from erosion. These are seen along SR89A near Cliff Dwellers, Arizona.
Doris chose #679. More of northern Arizona’s amazing rock formations also seen along SR89, the Painted Desert is located on the Navajo Reservation.
Lisa chose #5445. Sunrise over the Indian Ocean a short walk from camp in Scottburgh, South Africa.
Sallie and Bill chose #250. A P&S selfie from June 2008, my first season working at the North Rim Grand Canyon, and I was hiking to Cliff Spring.
My choice from the latest camp, a view of Vulture Peak just up the road. I’m not far from Wickenburg, Arizona where the calendar delivery happened this week. Many have been shipped, more will go out tomorrow, and there’s still some left so feel free to order.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Yes we can well understand being nervous with baboons around, we would feel exactly the same, they have very big and razor sharp teeth. I have seen the damage they can do to very large dogs while working at the vet!!
Favourite this week has to be the selfie always enjoy seeing photos of you.
Have a good weekend and keep warm. Diane and Nigel
I was thankful the Baboons were far away.
I love the toad stool pic. I had never heard of such a thing. I also like the last pic of the trail going off to the mountain.
608 from random dot org for next week.
Thanks. Just think of all the new discoveries when you journey to the SW. 😉 #608 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Nice variety of photo’s this week, and a lovely photo of you at North Rim Grand Canyon My favourite this week is the Lion sitting on the road at the Krugar National Park.I am interested as to what you do when you come across them, do you have to stop and wait for them to move. I would be scared stiff. But they look so regal and calm while sitting there. No 100 for next week please. Have a good weekend and stay safe. !!
I like my Death Valley shot and that youngster in Zion. And that’s a pretty good selfie of our friend!!! (I’m terrible at selfies!!) Next week #1208.
Thanks. I don’t consider myself good at selfies, and this oldie was a lucky camera shot. #1208 for next week.
Thanks. While on safari all animals have the right of way, so you either wait, or in this case we had to get back to camp, along with others, before the gates close so you carefully drive between the lions. My heart beat so fast seeing them I didn’t have time to be scared. Vehicles are too big to eat, and thus why you NEVER get out of your vehicle. #100 for next week.
I always love your animals in the wild sightings. I can’t imagine hiking among them in Africa!
You’ve got my number for next week, be safe and enjoy the desert.
I’m going to remember Death Valley in February. Maybe they will have another superbloom in 2022. I’ll still be in florida in 2021. I can’t believe you got to hike by Baboons however far away. WOW! That’s a great selfie of you. 2008 seems so long ago. Before David was even ill. I’ll have #9379 for next week.
I’ll meet you in Death Valley next winter, if not before somewhere. #9379 for this week.
