This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including rock and water, dirty-window shots, and me over many years.
Jennifer chose #1511. I might have used this cropped shot as a profile picture back when taken in 2009 at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Cathy chose #1211. Iris were always an early sign of spring when living in Yarnell, Arizona. This shot from 4-24-09.
Doris chose #9135. The sandstone formations in Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness are a spectacular example of dunes frozen in time and beautiful at every turn. Just around the corner to the left is the famous Wave that requires a permit to get this far.
Diane and Nigel chose #611. The Box Canyon Dwelliing remains in Wupatki National Monument. This stonework is only about 1000 years old and fallen apart without constant maintenance by the native people who built them. No comparison to some of the even older buildings she shares from France.
Yogi chose #4460, one of four in a panorama. Low tide on the Atlantic Ocean at West Coast National Park in Langebaan, South Africa taken 3-15-13.
Rita chose #3146. Sunset view through a dirty RV window where I lived while working at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park during summer 2015.
Lisa chose #290. Another dirty window shot, this time doggy art, looking up stream at Lake Powell behind Glen Canyon Dam near Page Arizona. I believe the “bath-tub ring” is even lower now than this 2008 shot.
Sherry chose #9999. The view east at sunset of the Kofa Mountains from my Kings Valley camp on the Kofa National Wildlife Refugee, Arizona 2-12-18.
Jeff chose #46 “to honor our nations 46th POTUS.” Although this shot of me is from 1955, I am giddy with happiness.
Sallie and Bill got #92 for the number of words from their comment. Hey look, seven years later and I’m still smiling.
Susie chose #0121 for the day we welcome the new POTUS to the White House. I hope it’s not soiled like this almost white door frame housing a Redwinged Starling family where we went almost daily for iced passion fruit while visiting Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa.
My first choice is the sunrise view from my camp a couple weeks ago at Snowbird Mesa.
And, because I finally got a most wonderful haircut from my favorite Yarnell beautician, you get to look at my mug once again.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Still crack up that we grew up with the same knotty pine wainscoting in our houses in Michigan and Illinois. Let’s go with 1949 for next week, the time of tomorrows SpaceX Crew1 launch to the ISS.
Nice ‘do! Love the smiles through the years. Pretty Atlantic Ocean pics. Snowbird Mesa camp looks very peaceful. Next week #6214
another great group of pics. The formations at Vermillon creek is my number one pick, hopefully I get to see them some day. The Atlantic Ocean at West Coast NP pics are great too. It is interesting to me to compare it to the Atlantic Ocean coast at New Jersey (a few hours drive from my home.) How very different each coast line is. #1113 for next week please.
Thanks. Sand dunes turned to rock is so amazing to see. Hope you do get out here to get that chance. #1113 for next week.
Thanks. Feels good to have gotten a haircut. #6214 for next week.
No surprise as it was the same era, and close enough in region. Have fun watching the launch. #1949 for next week.
Oops, forgot to tell you that your hair cut looks good.
Thanks.
The South African shoreline is gorgeous! I love seeing the old pictures, and I’m jealous of the haircut. I’ve been cutting my own hair, and I’ll just say it’s a good thing I don’t get out much anymore! I’ll name the style “the wave” in honor of that amazing place, because the wave is about as straight and even as I can get it myself. It seems like you’ve found another beautiful place to hunker down. Stay safe! #4568 for next week please!
Thanks. No way I’d try to cut my own hair. It wouldn’t be like the Wave. #4568 for next week.
I love the iris and the Wave!!
Take care, and my number 954 for next week.
Thanks. Both special, of course. #954 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, my outlook e-mail went belly up a few weeks back. Without the feeds I used to receive from your blog, I haven’t been involved in your Friday Foto Fun. Here I am again. Please give me the number 3005 for next week. I love the word POTUS. And even more, I love the image of the Red-winged Starling feeding its young. You’re an amazing photographer. I love your baby and young photos – always smiling, Even today with the beautiful hairstyle. Thanks for sharing. Jo
Hi Gaelyn, I’m updating contact details to keep in contact with you. Jo
Sorry to hear about your email, I quit outlook long ago. Welcome back says you’ve solved the problem. Thank you, I got real lucky with those Starlings and saw them many days in a row. #3005 for next week.
We always love all your photos, and good to see so many of you over the years and growing up. Glad you managed to get a hair cut 😊 The sandstone formations in Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness has to be the favourite for us this week, We are totally fascinated by formations that we never see here.
Hope you have a good weekend, did you get to look at that link I sent you? 1311 for next week please.
Diane and Nigel
Thank you. I don’t know France’s geology, no sandstone? I did watch the wildlife. #1311 for next week.
There is Sandstone here but nothing that looks remotely like that!! Nigel say they use it a lot for public buildings but they do not have the banded colour here. Diane
I just asked Bill to tell me a number and he said 312, so now you won’t have to count words. But by letting you do it last week we sure got a nice picture of a happy, bright and beautiful young lady. Fun memories this week! I was so tickled to read how several people chose numbers based on their happiness on election of our new President. ….I love all your pictures this week and especially the vermillion cliffs near the Wave.
Thanks Bill, but I let the computer count for me. 😉 I too was happy about the election results. #312 for next week.
Was of course going to pick the Vermillion Cliffs, but then I saw that photo of you in 1962 and am truly amazed at how clearly your soul shows through no matter your age. You still look the same in so very many ways.
Thank you for the most lovely compliment. Most of the time I even feel the same, except in body.
Hi Gaelyn,I hope all is well with you and you are keeping healthy and safe. Lots of great photos this week. Love the photos of you as a young girl with that lovely smile. My favourite this week is the beautiful Iris flower. No 8930 for next week please.
Thanks. I am happily hanging out in the desert. Post coming soon. #8930 for this week.
Better late than never. Don’t know how I missed this but my life seems to be more disorganized than ever. How I managed to have a job I can’t now imagine. Love the first picture of you in your hat and the other two of you becoming the person in the last shot. Can’t imagine you without a smile. Your west coast national park shots are really lovely. I would love to be at the campsite where you took that sunrise picture. I’m surprised you were up, glad you were, and hope there weren’t a lot of other rigs around. Since next week is over by now, I’ll leave no number.
I understand about keeping up with life. During winter I occasionally catch a sunrise.
