This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including Arizona Strip with the Grand Canyon and my favorite cookie place, the Kgalagadi, and a much younger me in a skort.
Jim and Diana chose #270. My first summer working on the North Rim Grand Canyon even before opening in May 2008 I was out exploring near the park and discovered the observation area along House Rock Valley Road and below the Condor release site located on top of the Vermilion Cliffs. Public Lands Day in September there is a public release so those interested in the Condor recovery program can watch them fly into their new wild home skies.
Cathy chose #4325. While exploring southeastern Utah with a friend in October, 2015 we ended up in Hanksville and looked up the BLM office he used to work at.
Jeff chose #1111, for Veteran’s Day (Nov 11) when the DOI will begin free entrance to all the fee areas it manages for ALL veterans. This snowy scene might look like November but was actually taken April 30, 2010 on my way to the North Rim Grand Canyon for the summer season.
Lisa chose #22, a scanned print taken in Downers Grove, Illinois during the summer of 1970. Yea, that’s me, and I’m wearing a skort. Do you know what that is?
Yogi chose #8860. One of many large mammals in South Africa. This Red Hartebeest was seen in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during March 2014.
Diane and Nigel chose #3110. The 2014 4th of July water parade at the North Rim brought out Uncle Sam with a vintage truck carrying a huge barrel of water to soak people down.
Rita chose #1498. Cape Royal will always be a favorite place for sunsets, and all views, on the North Rim Grand Canyon. This shot from 9-14-09.
Sherry forgot a number (she’s at the beach) so I gave her #148 for the number of words in her comment. From my previous 5th-wheel, this eastern window view while camphosting at Cave Creek on the Siskiyou National Forest when I was also working as a Park Ranger at Oregon Caves National Monument during summer 2007.
Susie chose #3135. Trees are so resilient growing out of rocky environments like this limestone along the Bright Angel Point trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Doris chose #9002. This point of entry was where we entered Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to camp at Twee Rivieren. This would also be where one checked in to leave South Africa and enter Namibia, or in reverse. But we didn’t leave the country. Maybe next time.
Sallie and Bill chose #1005, a panorama. Jacob Lake Inn sits at the junction of SR89A and SR67 into the North Rim. I’ve bought many pieces of native jewelry here and always stop for the worlds best cookies.
My choice of Sierra in the truckcamper now that we are back on the road.
And a spare shot I saw while searching for your numbers. Because Arizona voted blue, and green.

You have such amazing photos! #1511
Thank you. Some of the oldies are good quality but still full of memories. #1511 for next week.
Beautiful Sierra with those green eyes 😍 Next week #1211
She is a beauty. #1211 for next week.
I forgot to mention. Yes!! Skorts were the best !!
I thought the skort did a comeback a few years ago but it didn’t seem to catch on. Loved them but wouldn’t wear them quite so short now days.
Yep, I remember Skorts. #9135 for next week please
Skorts were fun. #9135 for next week.
My favourite is you in your skort, do they still make them? I loved them just a bit more feminine Sierra looks like she is contemplating what to type next 💻. 🐈.
611 for next week please. Have a good weekend and keep taking those great sky shots. Nigel and Diane
Thanks. I think the skort tried to come back a few years ago but didn’t really catch on. Mine were all sewed by my mother. #611 for next week.
I love the Cape Royal shots. 4460 is next week’s number. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, best place for sunsets on the North Rim. #4460 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Love the sunset I chose last week. However, I thought the statue of the hand a little weird but novel. My favourite for this week is the lovely Sierra in the truck camper. I hope you will have a good rest period and enjoy your weekend. Take care and stay safe. No 3146 for next week please..
Thanks. I have a small collection of articulated wood pieces like the hand and a chameleon. Sierra is sleeping by my side and has adjusted well to her smaller house. I’m in a RV Park for a week with power and signal so working on the calendar and hopefully the comment problem too. Be well. #3146 for next week.
Loe the stories, as usual. Great shots of the grand, and skorts are the confulence of fashion and function. Aanother excellent choice! Number 290 for this week in honor of the results so far. 🙂
Thanks. Now days, I’d rather wear, and hike in, a long full skirt with lots of pockets. #290 for next week.
Love you with your long legs in that skort. Of course I know what a skort is, I still own two of them and wear them in the summer or in Florida winter. My second favorite is Sierra. What a beauty she is. So serious as she is obviously reading your blog comments. For next week I’ll take 9999, the biggest number possible in celebration of the end of our National nightmare.
Thanks. For a short gal I have long legs. 😉 I am excited that you still own and wear skorts. Sierra really is a beauty and makes me think of Berta every day. #9999 for next week.
You were a ‘hottie’ with your shorts-skirt, but my vote this week goes to Susie – nice choice. For next week I’d like 46 to honor our nations 46th POTUS. Congrats Joe!
Aw, gee, you make me blush. But thanks. #46 for next week.
My favorite, oddly I suppose what with all the beautiful scenery to choose from, is the tree growing in the unfriendly limestone. Seeing Mother Nature’s resilience makes me happy and gives me hope. I like “our photo and would stop anywhere for the worlds best cookie. Or second best or … actually I think I’ll head to my kitchen right now for one that is decidedly way down the list, but all I have )). Thanks always and happy down time. And Thank You Arizona for moving over to the good side!
You could get both the survivor tree and cookie by going to the North Rim. They’ll be closing soon so wait until next year. (I’m settling with Oreos.)
Hi Gaelyn – That sunset at Cape Royal is gorgeous. Sierra is gorgeous too! For net week I choose #0120 – the day we will finally be rid of the buffoon in the White House
Thanks, and it’s not even one of the best sunsets from there. #0120 for this week.
