This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including various shades of red rock in Utah and Arizona, a couple panoramic landscapes above and below ground, and my hiking/travel companion for many years.
Cathy chose #739. I sometimes camp along Lake Powell with this view near Wahweap Bay not far from Page, Arizona yet across the state line in Utah.
Jo chose #304. She knows about walking with your dog. Carson and I explored a lot of trails. This from our first season at the North Rim Grand Canyon in June 2008.
Yogi, and random dot org, chose #3260. An amazingly huge view of Canyonlands from Bridger Jack Road before even entering the national park.
Sherry chose #9252. An exceedingly happy me at The Wave in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Arizona. Had to hike in Utah to get there.
Susie chose #4867. A southern Arizona desert landscape near Quartzsite and similar to where she’s lived even further south in Arizona yet very different than her current desert in Saudi Arabia.
Jim and Diana chose #32. The fish ladder at Spring Creek fish hatchery along the Columbia River in Underwood, Washington. Took this while working for Fish and Wildlife in 1996.
Diane and Nigel chose #2509, one of five in a panorama. Mountain Zebra National Park provided some of the largest views in wildlife safari parks in South Africa.
Doris chose #8955. A Secretary bird, named because the head feathers standing up looks like pencils stuck in a secretary’s hair. They are funny birds that stomp their insect and lizard food. Saw them in several South African national parks including this shot in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during my 2014 visit.
Rita chose #5732, a place she always likes to see. A May storm in 2016 with virga dropping from the clouds yet not hitting the land as seen from the North Rim Lodge Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Jodee and Bill chose #137, one of five in a panorama in Oregon Caves taken during my 2007 summer season. Paradise Lost is too tall to even capture in a panorama and is a tall-staired side-trip on the national monuments walking tour.
Jeff chose #2016, “my PADRES last made it to the playoffs 14 years ago.” Me thinks something isn’t quite right with either the number or the math—but then I am easily confused over sports. But then the Eye of the Needle might not look quite right either as seen on my Drakensburg hike during my first visit to South Africa in 2010. (My favorite shot this week.)
Last week’s sunrise visit to Bryce Point with friends brought interesting spots of light on the hoodoos below us.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Yes, I’m still working on fixing the comment problem. Please know I am getting the comments even if they don’t show up here. Thanks for your patience.
Time to Order the 2021 Geogypsy calendar.
My favorite this week would be the panorama. Let’s do 25 for next week.
Thanks. I do like panos. Hope that #25 for next week isn’t your temperature. 😉
I love the Canyonlands shot. What a layer cake landscape. Next week is 8260 from random dot org.
Thanks. I so need to return to Canyonlands and Arches. #8260 for you and random next week.
I always love the rocks and striking scenery, but the secretary bird is a hoot! When did it become Friday again??!!
#6129
The days are flying by. #6129 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn – Amazing collection of photos yet again! I love the Eye of the Needle one and the one of Bryce Point this week. For my choice next week, #2021 – hoping it will be a better year for all of us.
Thanks. We all hope for #2021 to be a better year.
Love our photos this week. We were supposed to go there last September, but they said that it would make us very sad. Drought was causing huge problems, thin zebras and some dying. We gave it a miss. As always all great photos but the wave has to be our favourite for the week. The hoodoos though are amazing when caught in different lights 210 for next week please. Keep safe and hope you enjoy seeing M and M and their delightful daughter and her husband. Wish were there. Diane
So sad about Mt Zebra NP. Thanks, hard to beat the local red rock. #210 for next week.
OK my math-in-my-head sucks! Lots of fabulous photos this week, no favorite, but the geology/creation of the Eye of the Needle must be interesting.
No math this week!, for next week I’d like 1998 the last time my PADRES won a post season series.
LOL! Thanks. I never studied the geology in South Africa but do know most of the Drakensburg are sedimentary capped by basalt. #1998 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Some interesting photo’s this week thank you. I quite like the Eye of the Needle photo and of course my favourite is the Light on the Hoodoo’s Hope all is well with you. I.would like no 2933 for next week please. Stay safe.
Thanks. Doing well except getting colder up here. #2933 for this week.
Such variety this week! I love them all. Paradise Lost looks so interesting and otherworldly. Number 9273 for next week.
I love the variety of memories that pop up. Caves really are otherworldly. #9273 for this this week.
Oh, I’ve been trying to visit and comment for a few days and couldn’t even find this little square to write in. I figured out just now that it shows up if I tap on the title of the post instead of “home” (your blog title). The comments still show up with the persons name only and blank spaces where the comment would be. ….. anyway, great pictures everyone, but the amazing light on the hoodoos (your choice ) is so wonderful, it really makes itossible this week to pick a favorite. …if I’m not too late #654 for next week?
Thank you for your persistence. I just don’t have time to fix the comment problem right now. Work, only three weeks left, keeps me busy. #654 for this week.
I’m getting concerned about my memory. I could swear I commented on your Friday post the day it came out. I came back to read your comments, if I could and I wasn’t there. I was able to read Sallie & Lisa’s comments. But not yours. Anyway I clearly didn’t see this post since I would most certainly have remembered “my picture”. You at the Wave. WOW that is a great picture. Happy Happy is right!!! My second favorite is yours of Bryce with those fantastic lighted sun candles. Or that’s what they look like to me. I’ll try 1031, the day I leave to get back on the road. HALLELUJAH!!!
You commented last week, it just didn’t show. So happy you’ll be on the road again. #1031 for this week.
Love this Lake. Thanks for sharing the views!
Thanks.
