This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including rocky landscapes in Colorado, Arizona, South Africa and Utah, sunsets, and a waterfall.
Jim and Diana chose #39. From summer 2005 through an extremely dirty windshield, the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. One of many places visited nearby when I worked at Mesa Verde National Park.
Lisa chose #1256, a panorama from 9-10-09. Not sure where I was coming from but this was the view of a stormy sky over the Kaibab Plateau from SR89A.
Yogi and random dot org chose #405. A hollow rock lined with Chalcedony, often called a Desert Rose, found near Lake Pleasant, Arizona while camping out with my dear friend Berta, who also was a rockhound, for a celebration of my birthday just a few days late 3-29-09. Yogi understands about long birthday celebrations.
Diane and Nigel chose #1809. They saw this view of Sky Island and Grand Canyon from the Walhalla overlook while visiting the North Rim.
Cathy chose #1113. The Vermilion Cliffs as seen from a drive by on SR89A, Arizona. I’ve driven that stretch of road many times in both directions and still marvel.
Sallie and Bill chose #918 in honor of what would have been her mother’s 110th birthday. 918 was an address of mine as a kid in Illinois. This waterfall has nothing to do with either. Saw this, and many other waterfalls, while hiking in Havasu Canyon on the Havasupai Reservation during Spring 2010.
Jo chose #3300. Saw this dove along a trail while staying at Warmwaterberg Spa in Barrydale, South Africa during my March 2013 visit. I’m sure she’s seen these in her home country and possibly along the same Route 62 she recommended I drive.
Rita chose #2789, no crawlies. This rocky outcrop and far view was seen while driving Swartberg Pass in South Africa only days before the previous shot. Just one of many mountain passes I drove that year.
Sherry chose #347 for the time. Over many years I took a lot of photos of sunsets in Yarnell Arizona. The first one taken 12-21-08, and I couldn’t resist the second one with the same number taken 1-26-09.
Doris chose #8953. An early October 2014 view from my RV parked on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Jeff chose #922, “the first day of autumn, and this covid summer can be left behind.” I’m sure we can all agree that would be nice. But these shots of the Grand Staircase Escalante were taken in the spring, both from SR89 in Utah, April westward and May east. Both with the same number.
Jodee and Bill , definitely explorers, chose #4221. Last week we talked about going to the coast. Though we were talking about California, this shot was at West Coast National Park Langebaan South Africa.
My choices taken while roving at Natural Bridge overlook in Bryce Canyon National Park. I just had to laugh (behind my mask) while taking a candid shot of the visitors standing with their backs to the view.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hey folks, Saturday September 26th is National Public Lands Day. Here at Bryce we’ve organized a littler pickup with visitors volunteering to help. Hope you’ll get out to enjoy public lands near you. Also, you can attend the virtual California Condor release here https://peregrinefund.org/news-release/saturday-september-26-25th-annual-public-california-condor-release-taking
Still working with Hostgator to get comments visible. Doesn’t seem to matter what device is used.

I love 89A. Lol…people with their backs to the view. I saw for National Public Lands Day that Bryce is having a volunteer cleanup. Considered coming up but staying closer to my own neck of the woods for the weekend. I was hoping to get up and meet you in person this season but your time is getting closer to being done. Happy Fall Gaelyn!! (My comments are using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 cell phone. Android. – hope you get the problem resolved soon). Next week #739
I love all the SR89s. #739 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, we did Route 62 many times on the bike. I hope to do a road trip in my car to visit our friends from Barrydale and onto Cape Town to other friends. Later. I love the natural bridge image. Please give me 304 (a farm account I’m working on doing a trial balance this weekend. Have a safe and happy weekend. Jo
I loved that drive, and most others in SA. #304 for next week.
Love’em all but the Vermillion Cliffs shot is what I liked best. 3260 according to random dot org for next week!
Thanks. Will see you out west eventually. #3260 for next week.
Bummer the comments aren’t fixed. No pressure though. Love my sunset pictures. What a fire in the sky. Also love that waterfall in Havasu Canyon, a place on my bucket list. Does getting permission require a guide? That is a very fine view from your RV at the North Rim. What a great location to be parked. I’m laughing too if that is the view the folks not socially distanced are turned away from. I’ll take #9252 for next week.
Trying this time to comment on phone to see if it makes a difference. Our photo of the canyon is our favourite this week but the two sunsets are close behind. 2509 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend. Diane and Nigel
It still didn’t show up, but Sherry’s did. Go figure. #2509 for next week.
Another great collection of photos. How ’bout #8955 for next week
Thanks. #8955 for next week.
Havasu is currently closed due to COVID but does require a permit. Three ways in, hike, horse, or helicopter. #9252 for next week.
My favorite shots this week are the Bryce Canyon arch and the sky photos. For next week, put me down for #4867 (I closed my eyes and just hit the keys!)
Thanks. #4867 for next week.
I sure do love that drive along the Vermillion Cliffs. Let’s do 32 for next week.
All the SR89s are beautiful in their own way. #32 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Hope all is well with you.Looks like comments are still not visible, computers can be frustrating at times.Anyway ,Those sunsets at Yarnell are stunning, great photography. Favourite this week is the waterfalls at Havasu Canyon. No 5732 for next week please Take care and enjoy your week end.
Still working on the comment problem. Yes, very frustrating. Thanks, I miss those Yarnell sunsets right outside my door. #5732 for next week.
I’m ready to be exploring oceans again! Do love seeing all the beautiful geology shared here though. We’re looking forward to seeing some cliffs in New Mexico. Great hollow rock!!
#137 for next week please.
I’m sure you’ll see lots of good rock in NM. #137 for next week.
Always fabulous photos of the landscapes and sunsets, but Yogi’s rock choice is special. I lived on Chalcedony Street when I first moved to San Diego over 50 years ago.
For next week I’d like 2016, my PADRES last made it to the playoffs 14 years ago.
Thanks. A great street named after beautiful rock. #2016 for this week.
Thank you for the waterfall! I used to say I collected them because they were my favorite thing to hike to! Can I now pretend I hiked to this one? (I would still love to hike to them if I were in good enough shape, which I fear I may never be again. And if it is ever safe to travel again of course.). … love everything in your posts, except maybe those clueless tourists.
Waterfalls are a marvel to hike to, watch, and be in awe of. I’m sure I saw you at this one. 😉
