This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including South African wildlife, red rock, and dinosaurs.
Diane and Nigel chose #1408. I’m sure they’ve seen all the animals in this necklace. But for my first visit to Kruger National Park in South Africa they were all exotically new to me. So much that I bought this beautiful sterling silver necklace in 2010. Sadly it was in a bag that was stolen along with my laptop during my 2014 visit.
Cathy chose #2718. Mountain Zebras seen at their namesake national park in South Africa during my 2013 visit.
Sherry chose #8213. Young elephants at play are rather comical. These seen at Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa during my 2014 visit.
Rita chose #7938. The golden Aspen leaves of Autumn contrast nicely with the ever greens on the North Kaibab National Forest. Only a three hour drive from Bryce, I hope to get up there this fall for a color show.
Jim and Diana chose #74. During a 2005 trip to Florida I traveled with an old high school friend in his motorhome to St Augustine and visited the Castillo de San Marcos.
Doris chose #8035. I may not see many sunrises but did occasionally work an early shift at the North Rim Grand Canyon to catch early light on the prominent temples seen from the lodge’s verandah. San Francisco Peaks shine a little on the horizon.
Sallie and Bill chose #80 for her 80th birthday this week. Ranger Gaelyn wishes her a happy birthday from 2006 when I worked at Oregon Caves, not all that far from their summer home.
Jeff chose #2001, “the last time extreme heat led to blackouts in San Diego.” In 2008 it was floods and washouts that changed the configuration of waterfalls in Havasu Canyon, like this Lower New Navajo Falls. Damage was still visible only two years later during a hike on the Havasupai Reservation.
Jo chose #1240. The hoodoo formations seen here at Cedar Breaks National Monument are the same formations as Bryce only about 30 miles away as the Raven flies.
Yogi and random dot org chose #7085. This time a Burchell’s Zebra and seen at Karoo National Park in South Africa 2014. Note the noticeable differences between the two Zebra species.
Jodee and Bill chose #938. Part of a mural depicting the Grand Staircase Escalante environment 90 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed a tropical landscape. A nice display of dino fossils can be seen at the small yet awesome visitor center in Big Water, Utah.
Going through photos for Arizona Highways and Foto Friday Fun this week I am reminded how much I like to spend time with an environment, get to know it’s subtleties and qualities of light. The Kaibab is still calling my name but travel in the heat with Sierra in the camper doesn’t feel quite right yet. Hopefully come the change of colors when Autumn turns the Aspen gold like Rita’s choice above. I dream of camping once again at Marble View, where the light plays like magic across the land.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Wow…Castillo de San Marcos. We’ve been there a few times. Did you know that many members of Arizona’s Apache tribe were imprisoned there, Gaelyn?
Let’s check out #67 for next week please.
I too am looking forward to cooler temps and Autumn colors in the forest. October usually finds me camping in the Adirondacks. My favorite this week is the Aspen picture. How ’bout #9065 for next week. Hope you have a good week
I’ll bet the variety of Autumn colors are spectacular in the Adirondacks. #9065 for next week.
I figured you’d been to the fort once or twice. I didn’t know about the tribe imprisoned there. Not up on my eastern history. #67 for next week.
Rita’s choice, the last photo, is mesmerizing. Love that one a lot!
Thanks. Beauty of the North Kaibab and why it calls my name.
All great pictures, your last deserves a spot in Arizona Highways. For next week I’d like 1902 the year the old growth trees in Big Basin Redwoods was set aside as a state park, devastated by fire last week.
Thanks. I occasionally get lucky on AZ Hwys FB page. I am broken hearted about the redwoods. #1902 for next week.
Oh Gaelyn I would be broken hearted to have lost that fabulous necklace. It’s so perfect for you with the elephant right in the middle. Have you tried to replace it? On line??
Love the zebras and my elephants and that wonderful picture of you. I’d love to return to Cedar Breaks and to see the Lower New Navajo Falls for the first time. Both beautiful pictures. Thank you for all these pictures. I’ll have #3894 for next time for no reason at all.
Thank you. I love to share the pics and stories plus know that others enjoy it as well.
I did love the unique necklace design. Kruger had a different model when I returned years later. I haven’t looked online.
#3894 for next week.
Great photos all, I am still mad all these years about your bag stolen. I guess I should move on. I love the aspens!! Random dot org says 2976 this week.
Thanks. Yes, definitely time to move on. Or send me back to SA in search. 😉 #2976 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I love the light and shadows in the last photo. I remember you having your laptop stolen in South Africa . Terrible. My number for next week is 3790. Be safe and well. Jo
Thanks. #3790 for next week.
Wow love that necklace, how sad it got stolen when your laptop was stolen. Love the elephants at play and the mural. It goes without saying that we love all you view shots. My goodness your hair was long in 2006!
2108 for next week please. Keep safe and have a good weekend. Diane and Nigel
Thanks. I lost a few nice pieces of jewelry in that heist. #2108 for next week.
Marble View 😍 Interesting reading about the zebras. Next week #1763.
Thought you’d like the Marble View. #1763 for next week.
Thank you for the Birthday wishes Ranger Gaelyn! Whether from the Oregon Caves or Brice Canyon, they …and you… are appreciated. We went to the Coast for a couple of days to celebrate and today I got a haircut. Neither of those things to be taken for granted these days. …I love sharing your memories. Baby elephants are the favorite here!
Thanks. The coast and a haircut sound delightful, something I could use as well.
Wonderful memories, all! #8
Thanks. For you this week the wonderfully low #8.
Oh zebras and elephants!! What a treat. Good to know of that little VC in Big Water as I’m sure we’ll be back in that area eventually. There’s the most wonderful dirt road drive down to the lake from there (thanks for the memory).
#142 for next week please.
I like when my memories help others remember too. I believe I know that road but haven’t driven it. #142 for this week.
