This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including moonrise and sunrise in California, and sunset in South Africa where elephants roam, plus more.
Rita chose #576. The first time I hiked to Buckskin Gulch in 2009 I didn’t have any idea what a slot canyon was and loved the texture and patterns of the water sculpted sandstone in Wire Pass on the way.
Jim and Diana chose #88. Me, at six-years old in 1960, for a school picture in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Yogi and Random dot org chose #3423. I haven’t practiced much at shooting the stars but do try to get out for full moon rises if I can. This shot from a March 2017 visit to the Alabama Hills, in California.
Jo chose #5050 and is a bird lover so will understand this shot. When viewing birds from a hide in Kruger National Park some people have to be reminded to be quiet.
Jennifer chose #7767. The 2006 Warm Fire on the Kaibab National Forest opened up a spectacular view east across House Rock Valley, past the Paria Plateau and Echo Cliffs to the distant Navajo Mountain about 60 miles away. Now I see that 10,000 foot peak from Bryce and have shared it in photos from Yovimpa Point.
Diane and Nigel chose #3107. A rare for me sunrise shot taken from camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California on 1-8-15.
Cathy chose #3754. I don’t spend near enough time on any coast so am fascinated by crashing waves. This rocky shoreline was along the Indian Ocean at Kidds Beach in South Africa 2-21-13.
Sherry chose #9470. While visiting Augrabies Falls in South Africa for my birthday we stopped at Echo Corner along a bend in the Orange River. We didn’t hear any echo.
Jeff chose #0832, “the moment when the nations Largest horizontal eruption occurred on March 18, 1980.” Except it was May Jeff. So in between those two months is April, when this shot was taken just one month after the above shot. What a difference being in South African summer versus spring at Grand Canyon National Park.
Doris chose #8076. My favorite South African wild animal seen at Addo Elephant National Park in April 2014.
Sue chose #1515 for a special day with a “joy” moment in Joshua Tree National Park. For me, sunset over the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa provided a moment like that as well.
Sallie and Bill chose #822. The person on the dune puts its size in perspective at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah.
My choice this week should be my personal theme. This quote hangs on the gazebo wall along Bristlecone Loop Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Love the Thoreau quote. How about #1130 for next week.
I could live by that, or at least try. #1130 for next week.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
What a mischievous grin. Look out world, here I come. Let’s do 81 for next week.
LOL! You are keeping with those small numbers at 81 for next week.
The moonrises this week are both amazing! Number 1791 for next week, please 🙂
Thanks. I do love the full moon. #1791 for next week.
We both love sun rises and it is very rare for us also to see one so this shot is very special for us. The Elephants though are also very special as are the moon shots. 708 for next week please, Keep safe and enjoy the weekend, hopefully you are feeling better now. Diane and Nigel
Thanks. So much easier to catch sunrise during winter months. #708 for next week.
Happiness shines from that cute little 6 year old. What wonders the South Africa coastline must hold. Enjoyed the links on both pics. Your quote holds truth. Solitude & connecting with life on a grander scale equals a greater awareness of our place in the universe – my thoughts. Have a good week!! Next Friday # 1478
Aw gee, thanks. I was a pretty happy kid. We are on a similar wavelength. #1478 for next week.
You know I love all your photos. The one with waves and the orange sky is especially striking to me. 2333 according to random dot org for next week.
Thanks. Hard to beat a sunset, anywhere, as you know. #2333 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I love the six-year-old you. I love the sunset in SA and the moon rise in your country, I love them all! Please put me down for 4850. Be safe. Jo
Thanks. Hope you are well. #4850 for next week.
The sunset over the Indian Ocean is my favorite this week. The colors are beautiful. How ’bout #2000 for next week. Thanks
Thanks. Gotta’ love a colorful sunset. #2000 for next week.
Well, it’s impossible to pick a favorite again. Love the picture of you and wore my hair the exact same way. Also love your quote. And of course any and all elephant pictures. Since I’m a water girl, your sunset over the Indian Ocean was wonderful. Hope things are well with you at Bryce. I’ll take 9118 for next year. That’s my grandson’s birth date.
Thanks. Mom used to perm my hair and it really stunk. Doing OK here at Bryce but counting down to the end of the season even though I have no idea what’s next. #9118 for next week.
What, you were late posting? Apologies accepted LOL — since I am always late I didn’t even notice a difference! Loved all the pictures and I think the Thoreau quote is perfect for you … and me too! I am going to vote for the sunRISE picture as my favorite tho …both because it’s a beautiful picture and because you deserve extra kudos for getting up and around early enough to catch it. I used to like getting up early, now it is hard. … 8192 next time?
Yea, this working stuff gets in the way of blogging. LOL I figured you would identify with the Thoreau quote. I see more sunrises during winter, when they’re later, and I can just step out the camper door to snap off a few. #8192 for next week.
Thanks for correcting my date from last week. Always great pictures, but I too like the ocean at sunset and the timing with a crashing wave really adds to it. With the Perseid Meteor Shower ongoing, for next week I’d like 1992 the last time Comet Swift-Tuttle replenished the debris that creates the meteor shower.
Thanks. I took 1000s of pics to capture a few crashing waves. I love how you come up with numbers. Though to be honest, I’ve never seen a meteor shower. I really am a daylight person. So, #1992 for this week, and I hope you’re taking pics and will post about seeing this shower.
