This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including multiple views of the geologic Grand Staircase, not so iconic views at Grand Canyon, other parks of course, and a bit more.
Jim and Diana chose #102. Before the fire Yarnell’s claim to fame included the SR89 hill drive and The Shrine of St Joseph of the mountains where this statue of “Jesus resurrected from ashes” is seen.
Jo chose #4120. The Johnson Canyon Road can be impassible after heavy rains. This view north surrounded by white sandstone cliffs leads into Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. In the distance the Pink Cliffs of Bryce Canyon National Park.
Cathy chose #0809. February of 2016 proved to be a Superbloom in Death Valley. The brilliant Desert Gold flowers lit up the often dull brown landscape like here along Artists Drive with the Panamint Range in the distance.
Yogi chose #914. Another perspective of the Grand Staircase looking across sage flats to the Vermilion Cliffs while driving SR89 back in 2009.
Diane and Nigel chose #1707. A view they saw when visiting the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. This shot taken in 2013 from Point Imperial has Saddle Mountain framing the Vermilion Cliffs in the distance and possible rain on House Rock Valley below.
Jeff chose #54, “the number of blocks in the Jenga stack I’m making.” Probably more wood sticks on the foreground hillside, not so easy to stack, in the blast zone around Mt St Helens. This shot south from Smith overlook all the way to Mt Hood in the hazy distance taken during my summer 1992 season as a Ranger.
Doris chose #5985, one of five in a panoramic sunset over the Salton Sea State Recreation Area from my Corvina Beach California camp during February 2015.
Rita chose #9649. Have to pay close attention to washes crossing the House Rock Valley Road past the Cockscomb in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Yet another southwest road that can be impassible after heavy rain.
Jennifer chose #9996. As much as she likes to walk in the woods I think the Ken Patrick trail would call to her. Just have to get to the North Rim Grand Canyon for this walk.
Sallie and Bill chose #63. As RVers who have changed rigs over time they might appreciate my previous 5th-wheel. This living room shot was taken in Summit, Colorado during the summer of 2005 when I worked as a Ranger at Mesa Verde National Park.
Sherry chose #7456. I’m wishing her cooler temperatures with this Autumn Aspen seen on the North Kaibab National Forest.
My choice, from the rim looking down on the Queen’s Garden Trail, a tiny piece low left, with Queen Victoria standing above. Do you see her?
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hi Gaelyn, thanks for the lovely images. Is Queen Victoria second from the left of the smaller rock formations? My number for next week is 5119. Be safe. Jo
Thank you. No on the Queen. #5119 for next week.
I like my pretty Desert Gold. Next week #3276.
Have a good week!
Thanks. Death Valley was gold everywhere that year. #3276 for next week.
I do see Queen V down there. We loved seeing references to her at Buckingham Palace this past year. Let’s do 95 for next week. We are finally under 100;
I see the Queen better from the rim than down below. #95 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, sorry late in the day again I am struggling to keep up with everything, the garden is very demanding at present as is the kitchen preparing everything…….
As always we love all your photos but we like our own the best this week, it brings back great memories of the Canyon and meeting you. Love the Queens Garden Trail shot as well though. 2407 for next week please. Keep safe and take care. Enjoy the weekend, Diane and Nigel
I’ll bet you’re busy. I remember when I had a garden and canned and froze for winter. Much work yet so worthy a reward. #2407 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn Great photo’s as always, love your choice , Looking down the Queens Garden Trail. I can just see the statue of Queen Victoria, and of course the sunset shots are always spectacular. Hope all is well with you and your visitors are keeping distances and wearing masks. No 7315 for next week please. Take care and enjoy your weekend.
,
Thank you. Visitors are mostly well behaved. #7315 for next week.
My favorite this week is the Salton Sea pics and not because it was my pick. The colors are wonderful. I live in a heavily wooded area with no clear view of the sky. SoI really enjoy seeing long distant sky pics. #6378 for next week please.
Thanks. I live in the forest right now and so miss big open sunset skies. #6378 for next week.
I love the aspen shot, and all your photos. 1311 for next week.
Thanks. I love the golden aspen, but also your variety of Autumn colors. #1311 for next week.
I would love to walk into that photo from Point Imperial. Gorgeous light effects. I could sit there and study those skies for hours. Love that picture and the next one, again the color, the skies, that peak peeking out. Both photographs are so artistic. They could be paintings. Very dramatic sunset picture and the Queens Garden Trail as well though I wasn’t able to find the queen. I’d like 9108 for next time.
I love the dramatic monsoon skies in the Southwest. More of those coming from Bryce next week. #9108 for this week.
Well of course I loved seeing an inside view of one of your homes on wheels …I wish I’d taken more interior shots of our two full time RV homes. …. I forgot that you spent time in the Salton Sea area … so many memories from that area for us (that whole area is unique in so many ways) and it was the first place we spent a fulltime season. …. enjoyed the views and sharing your memories in every picture . Thanks. Oh what about 997 next time?
Thanks. I take pictures of everything. Sometimes, Salton Sea is better than others, depending on which way the wind blows. #997 for this week.
