This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including water, light, and another dinosaur in Utah, Arizona, Oregon, and South Africa.
Jim and Diana chose #137. An inviting looking lodge seen while rafting along the Rogue River with fellow Park Rangers when I worked at Oregon Caves the summer of 2007.
Diane and Nigel chose #1206. When they visited Grand Canyon we probably stopped at Vista Encantada overlook on our return drive from Cape Royal, at the end of the road. This northeast view from the North Rim includes Mt Hayden and Saddle Mountain under a stormy monsoon sky in 2009.
Yogi chose #1014, a three shot panorama. It’s all about the light so I took the noonish photography tour in 2009 (no longer available) at Antelope Slot Canyon with a Navajo guide. Sadly it is currently closed to protect the Navajo people from outsider COVID19. I sure would like to return with a better camera and understanding how to shoot under these conditions.
Jennifer chose #9032. Sunset from the Lodge on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park taken 10-7-14. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Jodee and Bill chose #456. Lower New Navajo Falls, a lesser shared waterfall seen along Havasu Creek after hiking down into Havasu Canyon on the Havasupai Indian Reservation (also currently closed). I hiked in with a fellow Ranger for three nights in spring of 2010 just before returning to work at the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Sallie and Bill chose #620. I love rocks and there are three rock stores in Orderville, Utah near the turn off to Zion from SR89. The coolest one IMHO, has a dinosaur out front of a “RT66 style” building.
Rita chose #3356, one of two in a panorama. Two out of three of the warm water soaking pools at Warmwaterberg Spa in South Africa. These shots from my first visit in March, 2013 and then returned the next year and had a private Roman bath.
Doris chose #127, “my customer number to enter the local food store.” There could easily be 127 Asters in this shot—you go ahead and count—taken in 2005 when working at Mesa Verde for the summer.
Sherry chose #7819. Saw this Black-backed Jackal rather near to the rig while on safari in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.
Jeff chose #0720, “for the day early Solstice this year…” This shot was taken three months after Solstice in 2017. Roosevelt Point overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park provides a view of the canyon and on almost 80 miles to Navajo Mountain in the far distance.
My choice from my phone, looking north from Bryce Point about five miles across Bryce Canyon’s main amphitheater full of trees and hoodoos.

Do you have a favorite this week?
A wonderful set of photos, but then you photos are always great. Not one here we do not like but but the slot canyon is very special as is the sunset. Great shot also of Bryce, wow you can see so far in that photo.
1906 for nest week please. Hope you have a good weekend and stay well. Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thank you. Considering the smoke passing us here at Bryce that was a long view. #1906 for next week.
HI Gaelyn, I loved the Antelope Slot photo. I did a double take at the fenced brick swimming pool, because I recognised it and then saw it’s a warm bath spa in South Africa! I love jackals and regularly hear them calling and yapping near to the farm fence at night. My number for next week is 2402 . Be safe and enjoy the weekend. Jo
Thanks. I really enjoyed the baths in Barrydale and would love to hear the yapping of the jackal, though I do hear coyote howl sometimes. #2402 for next week.
I especially like your phone shot! 1040 for next week…
Thanks. My big camera isn’t working well so am using the phone more. #1040 for next week.
#9032-I can’t bypass a sunset from the North Rim. Next week – #7911 Have a good week!
Rangers get paid in sunsets. #7911 for next week.
As always, fun photos and memories. Of course I loved the shot of the Rogue River since we took the mail boat run yesterday. I’ll pick 6180 for yesterday’s date.
Thanks. That river shot came up shortly after I saw you were going to make the run. I’ll bet that was awesome. #6180 for next week.
I’ve never seen a jackal! But you’ve been to so many different places. You are amazing. Wonderful photos.
We are breathing deeply, lovely flowers and smells. Deep breath. #9193
P.S. I love my photo pick!
Thanks. I like diversity and would travel the world. Keep that deep breathing going. #9193 for next week.
So many wonderful places to see! I would love to get down to Havasupai today. Love that vivid sunset from the lodge. Such a magical location any time of day 🙂
#525 for next week please
The hike into Havasupai would be hot but the water delightful. I’ll bet it’s getting warm where you are. Have you bought a pool of some kind? #525 for next week.
We also had to opportunity to visit Antelope Canyon, such an amazing and colorful wash. For next week I’d like 2011 the year we visited Antelope Canyon.
I am blown away by every slot canyon I’ve seen. #2011 for next week.
Thanks for the lovely mix of photo’s Gaelyn Sunsets, Canyons, Animals flowers and statues. My favourite however is the one of the Navajo waterfalls. Always wanted to walk underneath a waterfall. No 1398 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you. Waterfalls have such amazing energy and sadly I didn’t get to walk behind this one, but I have others. #1398 for next week.
Slot canyons are so fascinating. #422 please for next week. Enjoy the first day of summer.
Agreed. Have some new slots to explore hopefully this summer. #422 for next week.
My favorite this week is your Rogue River shot. Brings back a lot of memories of a really great summer. #130 for next week, Gaelyn.
Thanks. I truly love when the photos evoke memories for others. #130 for this week.
I love your choice..a perfect picture of Brice ! … beautiful work place you have there. How is it that we’ve never been to Orderville in our three visits to Zion NP? . Off to look at a map (or maybe wait until the travel planner wakes up and ask him )). So … all I need to do to be as well-traveled as you are is go to Orderville and spend a couple summers in South Africa. (Travel dreams! At this point I’d happily settle for Orderville).
Thanks, I do have a nice office view. If you blinked you might have missed Orderville, or you came from the north. I’m sure you’re missing travel.
You are an amazing photographer, I love them all!!! Sorry I am late, we had Agent Orange visit Tulsa this weekend and it was just exciting monitoring the fiasco on social media and television.
Next week is 1007
Thank you, made me blush. You’re not late. I’ll bet that was quite entertaining. #1007 for this week.
I forgot a number. If you have room next week, 620? No worries if not, I’ll be back next time hopefully sooner.
#620 it will be. Haven’t even started the post yet.
Dear Gaeylyn, This is last year’s post. I am commenting here to try and link up to your blog again. Jo
OK. Looks like it worked.
