This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including several firsts and seconds, Southwest canyons’ red rock, Aspen trees, and dinosaurs.
Rita chose #5341. Not sure I ever saw a bad sunset while camping along Rockhouse Road (no longer available for dispersed camping) adjacent to Anza-Borrego State Park, California.
Dale chose #1303. A hoodoo view from Bryce Point during my first visit in 2010. Little did I know I’d end up working and living in Bryce Canyon National Park.
Yogi let random dot org choose #8412. A view into Grand Canyon from Moran Point on the South Rim where I celebrated my birthday in 2015. He knows about celebrating birthdays and spreads the party many days on each side. I learned that from him.
Doris chose #1153. An expansive view to the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff, Arizona as seen along Interstate-40 West. I usually try to avoid freeways and hadn’t driven the route many times in April 2009 when this shot was taken through the windshield with a HP P&S. Over the next 11 years I’ve seen this view in a variety of seasons.
Jo chose #1560. A grove of Quaking Aspen near the North Rim Grand Canyon taken in September, 2009 right before they turn to Autumn gold.
Sherry chose #2174. Taken my first visit to the remote Toroweap overlook along the north rim of Grand Canyon. The iconic views 3000 feet down into the Colorado River are exquisite but the drive is not for the feint of heart. Looking down stream Lava Falls can be seen, rates a 10 on the canyon scale and I can tell you it’s BIG.
Diane and Nigel chose #506. My first Autumn as a Park Ranger on the North Rim in 2008 I experienced the absolute wonder of the Aspens going gold.
Jennifer chose #9340. Her forest and wetland environment in Ontario probably doesn’t include Beavertail cactus yet is beautifully diverse in a different way than the desert environment in Congress, Arizona where this was taken in friends yard during April, 2015. Look closely for the spider.
Pat chose #1355, the time it was. And what a great time we had when she visited me at Grand Canyon in June 2014. I’m sure we enjoyed this view from Point Imperial even without the rainbow seen 9-13-09.
Jeff chose #6820, “as Mission Bay Park will open on June 8th.” And he didn’t waste any time visiting. I’m thinking he’s probably also visited Joshua Tree National Park a time or two where this shot of Juniper Flats along the Keys View Road was taken 3-5-15.
Jodee and Bill chose #1321. We actually met the first time on this verandah at the Grand Lodge on the North Rim. Yet I’m sure it was busier than this shot the end of April, 2009 before the North Rim was open.
Jim and Diana chose #144. From my first, and only, season as a Park Ranger at Mesa Verde National Park in 2005, this painting depicting daily life for the Ancestral Puebloans hung in the museum.
My choice is an example of what happens when several Park Rangers have been inside too long and are organizing props for geology talks that haven’t happened yet. Recognize anybody?

Do you have a favorite this week?
It looks like those dinosaurs are working on creating a new species, Gaelyn. 137 for next week.
LOL! Rangers just gotta’ have fun. #137 for next week.
As always great photos and love them all but the rainbow at the North Rim to us is just fabulous. The verandah at the Grand Lodge brings back wonderful memories. The view from the Toroweap overlook is quite something, and the golden aspens are always a pleasure to see. 1206 for next week please. Have a good weekend and keep safe. Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thank you. I’m sure several of these shots brought back memories for you two. #1206 for next week.
I love the quaking aspen and the canyon rainbow shots.
Next week is 1014!
Thanks. #1014 for next week.
I cannot believe I missed last week. The aspen are wonderful. I just realized I have them here! #9032
You didn’t miss last week, the flowering cactus was yours. No matter. Aspen are a lovely tree. #9032 for next week.
Oh, yeah, I got a laugh out of the dinosaur picture.
LOL! That’s bored Rangers for you.
Hard to pick a favorite, Aspens, Cayon shots, cactus, fun with dinosaurs…#127, my customer number to enter the local food store, for next week please.
Thanks, lots of goodies this week. #127 for next week.
Love those clouds in the first pic – they’re so magical. Nice to see more canyon shots, I keep thinking we should take a couple days and go visit but we’re staying home for now. We actually met in Q a couple years before the North Rim, but we got to spend more time with you at the Rim. We loved your Geology talk in that very spot! How fun that I chose that photo 🙂
#456 for next week please.
I’d stay home and just explore locally for now, especially if you’ve found those places not to be crowded. I forgot about Q for our first meet. #456 for next week.
That geology talk is gonna be just for the grownups huh? A little whimsy is a good thing when you’ve been inside too long! Love them all, especially Beautiful Toroweap, and that scary road that “we” would enjoy driving (or riding shotgun in my case). If I can come back to play next week, I will choose 620.
Thanks. An adult talk could be arranged. #620 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I love that painting of the Ancestral Puebloans which is my favourite for this week. But love all the Canyon shots because they are always so dramatic. Thanks again for sharing your fabulous photogrphy
I think you’d love all of Mesa Verde, and the canyon too of course. #3356 for next week.
Whoops sorry forgot number for next week 3356
LOVE my picture, looking down at the Colorado from the North Rim. I’d like to be doing that just now or looking at those Hoodoos. That’s a fantastic picture. And what a fine one of the rainbow on the rim. I really love seeing these great pictures. How about if I have #7819 for next week? Glad to see you are having a good time with the dinosaurs. Should be an interesting talk.
Sadly, the North Rim is currently closed because of the 10,000 acre Mangum fire. Otherwise I’d wish to be there too. Funny thing, I know nothing about dinosaurs, but the kids we talk to do. #7819 for next week.
Got a laugh from the photo of the veranda of North Rim Lodge. I had a job interview while sitting on the ledge right there, it was the best place for a cell signal. I sent them a selfie of me sitting there and got the job! I’d like 0720 for the day early Solstice this year June 20 will be the first day of summer.
I can’t imagine a better place for a job interview. #0720 for this week.
