This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes images chosen by nine readers and features a diversity of places I love.
Sherry chose #6120, “for the day I was ‘supposed’ to arrive in the Finger Lakes In New York for a cool month before the pandemic closed everything down.” From the photos I’ve seen it’s a beautiful area. And so are the tall grasses that might be more reminiscent of the great plains but were actually seen north of Flagstaff, Arizona at the entrance of Wupatki National Monument. Her choice is one of a five shot panorama taken 10-5-16.
Yogi and random dot org chose #9501. This 1952 Chevrolet is perfect for him as he attends car shows. Taken 4-19-15 at the Yarnell Car Show.
Sallie and Bill chose #2020. I love the energy behind monsoon storms and while working on the North Rim Grand Canyon often went camping on my days off at Marble View along the eastern rim.
Diane and Nigel chose #2905. During the end of September 2015 I took a mini-vacation with Bill—a friend that Diane and Nigel have met. Gooseberry Guard Station was one of the places we visited because Bill had worked here in his younger years.
Rita chose #9071. Wukoki Pueblo, one of several remains of a civilization from the past seen at Wupatki National Monument, Arizona. The same place as the tall grass seen above.
Doris chose #1031. My first experience seeing lions in Kruger National Park, South Africa was a thrill I will never forget.
Jeff chose #4226, “the elevation of our campsite near Julian.” The elevation at my Ogilby Road campsite in southern California wasn’t much over 100 feet. Lots of burrow holes.
Pat chose #3910, “the street address where I grew up.” No street addresses located in Arches National Park during the same fall vacation with Bill as mentioned above.
Jim and Diana chose #151. The window view I enjoyed while camphosting at Cave Creek and working at Oregon Caves the summer of 2007. I truly loved picking a nightly salad from my container garden.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Hi Gaelyn, great variety of photo’s. I love your container garden which looks as if they have plenty of shade as well as sun. My favourite this week has to be those lions just relaxing on the road at Krugar National Park. No 5341 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend..
That was the last garden I had, not much of a green thumb. Seeing lions was a highlight of my life. #5341 for next week.
My favorite is the picture of the clouds. living in a heavily wooded area I have limited views of the sky. There are days I miss seeing clouds. #1153 for next week please.
Thanks. I’d miss the clouds even though I also like forests. #1153 for next week.
Enjoy your pictures so much. 1303 for next week
Thank you. #1303 for next week.
I love the photo of the Gooseberry Guard Station. As a kid in Utah when Dad worked for the Forest Service we would go various guard stations for a weekend. (I am not sure that taking the family was allowed but hey we did it). They looked just like the one you pictured. Two rooms, wood stove, cots for beds. We loved it. No running water.
My random dot org number is 8412
Have a great week!!
Thanks. Dave’s Hollow Guard Station is near Bryce. Seems they are staffed by volunteers these days. That’s a great memory. #8412 for next week.
Wow, I think in all the years I’ve been commenting on your Foto Fridays, this is the first time I’ve been first.
In times of pandemic, little things seem exciting. I doubt the tall waving grasses in my pictures are full of ticks but that’s what I think of here at the farm whenever I’m tempted to just walk straight through the tall grass and enjoy its feel. Boy David would love that 52 chevy. He owned a 50 ford for years and loved it. Never missed a car show if he ran into one. Love those Lions, seeing them in person is something I’d never forget either. Sweet picture of your container garden. In hindsight, I wish I’d put out a garden when I returned in March. But I had no idea I’d be here AGAIN all summer long. Two of your pictures make me want to ask – where is Bill these days? I’d like 2174 for next week please.
Nothing is normal this year. I don’t think of ticks here in the dry SW though I know they can be around. More disconcerting is the possibility of fleas on rodents carrying the Bubonic plague. Although I really don’t have a green thumb, I wish fresh food was nearby. #2174 for next week.
I don’t plant a garden any more and I don’t think you do either, but there’s something about this pandemic that makes me wish I did, so the old container garden photo was interesting. Of course I love the lions and the beautiful scenery ….and “our” monsoon sky photo. Did you actually mean you went camping there during monsoons?
That might have been the last garden I planted. My lifestyle isn’t good for gardening. Yes, I actually went camping during monsoon season, with the truckcamper to hide in if needed.
Oh dear, this business of not going anywhere, despite the fact we both had dental appointments this morning, the days all get tumbled into one and I forgot yet again it was Friday!! We so enjoyed meeting you and Bill and it is good to be reminded how good he was to us when we were there. You mentioned that he was having a memory problem! Love our photo but I think the lions have to be our favourite.
I think one of the highlights of my life was driving up to Zimbabwe. We were near the border, in the mountains just beyond Louis Trichardt in RSA, it was dark and I was driving when suddenly a leopard leaped into the middle of the road. I hit the break giving a sleeping Nigel in the passenger seat a minor heart attack. The leopard was probably equally as surprised and she stayed in the middle of the road caught in the car lights. It seemed like she was there for ages but I am sure it was no more than 30 seconds when she casually turned and walked calmly off the road into the bush leaving us with an amazing memory. No camera around sadly in those days.
506 for next week please.
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend, Diane and Nigel.
I LOVE your leopard story! Had a cougar do similar in Washington state. Such a thrill.
Going out for the dentists isn’t the best of fun but at least got you both out of the house. I need to make an appt.
Bill is a special person who I enjoyed in my life.
#506 for next week.
You have so many wonderful adventures. Your photos are eye candy. Your friends abound! #9340
Thanks. I love sharing stories of the people and places in my life. Have met, even virtually, many wonderful people online and some eventually in person. We’ve known each other a lot of years. #9340 for next week.
Here I am again. I like the garden photo best…makes me want to eat some fresh veggies now… Put me down next time for # 1355, the time it is right now!
Glad you’re back. I wish for fresh salad all the time but can’t garden in the park. #1355 for next week.
Haven’t seen big cats lounging on the warmth of the pavement, must be an interesting sight. For next week I’d like 6820 as Mission Bay Park will open on June 8th. ‘boout time!
Lions were the most exciting to see, other than elephants. #6820 for next week.
Glad to be getting caught up with everyone and enjoying more of your fabulous memories! What a delight to see those lions, I can only imagine your excitement at the time 🙂 We are so missing our travels yet grateful for what we have where we are.
#1321 for next week please.
Wonderful to see you online again. Buying your house was perfectly timed. I’m sure you’ll travel again when the time is right. #1321 for this week.
Gotta love those lions! Let’s do 144 for next week, Gaelyn.
And I do. #144 for this week.
