This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including Grand Canyon, South African wildlife, and tiny critters from Arizona.
Jim and Diana chose #158. Saw this cactus blooming along the the North Kaibab trail in Bright Angel Canyon the first time I hiked rim-to-rim across Grand Canyon in 2008.
Jo chose #4000. Not an uncommon sight when driving on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Jennifer chose #1200. I know she likes critters but not sure ants make that list. I love to watch ants. There was a huge ant colony in Berta’s yard that we both watched for years. Sadly, the Yarnell fire took them out and we never saw them there again.
Yogi chose #9985. Also on safari in South Africa during 2014 but this time a Blue Wildebeest in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
Sue chose #1953, “the year I was in the third grade.” (In reference to one of last week’s photos.) And this dramatic morning sky over the Grand Canyon was taken in the year 2010 from the North Rim Lodge.
Diane and Nigel chose #2205. Although they didn’t get to visit the remote Toroweap above Grand Canyon I’m betting they saw plenty of Yucca growing during their Southwest tour.
Jeff chose #2012 “The year we enjoyed ‘The Ring of Fire’ from Bryce. I watched that event from the North Rim at Grand Canyon, but not from the Toroweap overlook where this shot was taken looking across the narrow chasm at the Earth shadow at sunset.
Sherry chose #8888 because she’s been doing a lot of eating during lockdown. It’s something many do when stressed. Don’t know if this USGS guy is stressed in that cage above the Colorado River seen at Lee’s Ferry. But I sure was when there shortly after the 2016 election.
Melissa chose #6166, for her hubby’s birthday. I was hiking the Suspension Bridge trail in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa exactly one month before my birthday in 2014 where I saw this rocky view of the Indian Ocean. Oh to see it like that Seagull.
Doris chose #467, one of four in a panoramic view east from Roosevelt Point on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. This shot was taken three days after the North Rim opened during my first season in 2008.
Susie chose #1717. She lived in Arizona long enough to have seen the Vermilion Cliffs along SR89A in the northern part of the state.
Rita chose #421. She always likes to see photos of the Grand Canyon and this view from Angels Window on the North Rim includes the Colorado River as seen from the same day as above from Roosevelt Point.
My pick for this week is from last summer at Bryce Canyon National Park. I am currently labeling photos from June, 2019. And being I haven’t gotten out for any sunsets from Bryce Point, this will have to do.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
I’m still adjusting to a 40 hour a week work schedule. So between that and an iffy signal I apologize for being way behind reading your blog posts.
This is certainly a collection of fantastic pictures from your rainbow header to your closing one of Bryce. Both of those are calendar worthy. Love those giraffes too and am wondering why the guy is in the cage in my picture. I’ve been to the landing there but don’t remember any cage one could cross in. But then it’s been a long time since we were there. I’ll try 6120 for the day I was “supposed” to arrive in the Finger Lakes in New York for a cool month before the pandemic closed everything down. Currently grumpy and sweating in Virginia.
Thanks. Haven’t been taking many pics lately with more than the phone. The guy in the cage is from the geologic survey and taking water samples. It’s not a ride for the public. #6120 for next week.
Great photos all, our safety guys would jump out of their skin on the little crossing the guy is doing. I can hear it now!!
Thanks. He was roped and hooked on with the safety boat below. But it’s gov…
Loved them all… especially the “not uncommon” giraffes…oh, to see something like that would be wonderful. Not much chance that’s ever gonna’ happen so I look forward to your pictures. ….I am still suffering from that 2016 stress you mention in that one picture…I’ve just learned to live with it (you too I imagine). ….. I have no excuse whatsoever for being behind in visiting . Well… how about 2020 for next week (maybe with any luck that stress I mentioned might be over in November?)
Thanks. Took some getting used to seeing ‘unique’ wildlife strolling on roads in South Africa.
Yes, also still suffering from the 2016 stress.
#2020 for next week, and a better 2021 to come.
Beautiful! Are you up doing any work in the big canyon?
Nope, but I do miss that big ditch.
Bit late in the day, I was going to comment earlier but there just seems so much on here the days are too short at present. Not a photo here that we do not love. South Africa of course is always dear to out heart but since visiting you the Canyon and Bryce shots mean so much more to us. As for the Yukka I photographed one here the other day while out walking so they are very wide spread. We had one on the garden in the UK but have not planted any here. No particular favourite. 2905 for next week please. Enjoy being back at work and stay safe. Hugs Diane and Nigel.
Thanks. Did the days get shorter because I’ve noticed that too? Once again I am surprised by the often similar plants on the other side of the pond. #2905 for next week.
Great photo’s as always Gaelyn At last my number came up trumps with a pic of the Grand Canyon. My favourite is the one you chose yourself , that of Bryce Canyon National Park.No9071 for next week please. Hope all is well with you.
Thanks. I knew you’d like to get a canyon shot and glad you like both canyons. #9071 for next week.
I have seem the cage baskets on other rivers and wonder how they worked Looks like fun to me. Your picture of Bryce is my favorite this week. #1031 for next week please.
Thanks. I had seen them also and wondered how they worked. Does look like an interesting perspective. #1031 for next week.
Lots of favorites this week, I can’t pick just one! With San Diego County Parks opening up we enjoyed a few days in the local mountains. For next week I’d like 4226 the elevation of our campsite near Julian.
Thanks. Glad you are able to get out again. #4226 for next week.
I’m baaack! I decided to reactivate myself…. I like all your photos this week, but especially the wildebeest. Put me down please for next week with # 3910, the street address where I grew up.
Welcome back and thanks for leaving a comment. #3910 for this week.
The giraffes are my favorite! 151 for next week.
Not an every day sighting in the US. #151 for this week.
