This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including sunsets, South Africa, the Southwest, and erosion carved rock.
Jo chose #3057, “the page in my bird book…” Sorry, no birds this week, instead it’s sunset over the badlands seen from Fonts Point in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.
Lisa chose #1112. Echo Cliffs displays sandstone layers and parallels SR89 on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona.
Jennifer chose #0305. One thing about fire, it sometimes opens up the view. There is a passing pull-off on the east side of SR67 between the North Rim Grand Canyon and Jacob Lake on the Kaibab National Forest that I frequently stop at. Looking through the remains of the 2006 Warm Fire and beyond to Vermilion Cliffs and even on to Navajo Mountain about 100 miles away.
Diane and Nigel chose #2404, a two-shot panorama. When they visited me at the Grand Canyon we didn’t get to the far western Toroweap overlook.
Yogi chose #4021. Who can resist a face like that? The ossicones, bone-like antlers, on a Giraffe’s head are covered with hair yet as males mature tend to loose the length. Just a fun fact Joan taught me when we visited Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Jim and Diana chose #193. I call them dancing Aspen. When the Quaking Aspen are saplings, they are often bent under the weight of snow which causes the curves to their trunks.
Cathy chose #0504, “for Melanoma Monday and May – Skin Cancer Awareness Month.” and today is May Day, when as a little girl I gave flowers to my neighbors. The Amargosa Range in Death Valley National Park made a nice backdrop to the fields of Desert Gold wildflowers during the 2016 super bloom.
Doris chose #2917. Most summer visitors to Grand Canyon get clear blue Arizona skies. Yet I really like the drama of seeing clouds in the canyon like this shot taken from Cape Royal on the North Rim 6-10-15.
Rita forgot a number so I gave her #51 for the number of words in her last week’s comment. Here I am in 1955 about 1 1/2 years old pushing my cousin Colleen in the swing.
Che chose #6520, “for the day I fly to SoCal to drive my truck and trailer back to WA.” I’m thinking she’s pretty excited about that. Hope she decides to drive up the Pacific coast and enjoy some sunsets. Though this shot was taken over the Indian Ocean from Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Melissa chose #5689, “in honor of my son,” and grandson. A place for boys to play and another shoreline along the Indian Ocean near Port Edward, South Africa where I visited the Mzamba fossil site.
Sallie and Bill chose #5120, “by which day I hope you have good news about Bryce.” I haven’t heard anything newer than start date of 5-10-20. So in the meantime, enjoy these cute young spotted hyenas seen in another national park, Kruger in South Africa.
Mark chose #1128, one number up from last week’s slot shot, “because Antelope Canyon was the most unique place I have ever visited.” And he got lucky for another shot looking up in Antelope Canyon.
My choice is a sunset view from my current friendock under the Juniper and Pinyon trees.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
You just have to love the cloud drama.
Speaking of drama; let’s do 179 for next week. I had to readjust for publication date.
Cloud drama is why I’m a nepholographer. #179 for next week. Be well.
Pretty much impossible to pick a favourite here though we love the one of you pushing the swing, so very cute 😊 Our shot is amazing, I always imagined the Colorado as a wide very fast flowing river and was surprised to see it not that at all. Maybe in years gone by it was but with the change in the weather pattern it has slimmed it down
105 for next week please. Hope you hear some good news from Bryce. Keep well, Diane and Nigel
Thanks. Always fun for me when the childhood shots come up. The Colorado River has never been more than about 300 feet wide, just like you saw at Lees Ferry. And just below Toroweap, but out of this shot, is the #10 Lava Rapids Falls, biggest rapid on the river. #105 for next week.
Love the photo I chose last week Gaelyn, of you pushing your little cousin. Some wonderful other photo’s of the Canyon and spectacular skies. I also like the one of the Misty Canyon, that looks pretty dramatic. but my favourite is Grand Canyon, Toroweap Overlook. Sorry I forgot last weeks Number. Can I have No 1865 for this week please. Best wishes for a lovely weekend.
Thanks, those photos from childhood are always fun for me. And can’t go wrong with Grand Canyon. #1865 for next week.
I completely missed last week, my bad! As you know, Font’s Point will remain special to me. More so now that ABSP remains closed 🙁 For next week I’d like 1890, the year the Sisters of Mercy began medical facilities in northern San Diego.
Life happens. #1890 for next week.
Another set of impossible pictures to choose one. Wow what a fantastic picture of the Badlands Jo chose. Definitely a place I want to return to. Where in the world were you when you took that? What a face is right about the giraffe. Lucky you to have seen them in the wild and to get that fabulous picture of sunset over the Indian Ocean. To have been there in person seems amazing. Always love your Grand Canyon pictures through the clouds and from the overlook. And always glad to see your Antelope Canyon pictures. Yet another amazing place I have not seen in person. You’ve certainly chosen a beautiful spot to friendock (love the word) on this May 1st Beltane day. Wish I had a friend with a place like that where I could park. I’ll take 5820 for next week since that’s the date.
Thanks. I’m loving all pics of pretty places where I am not at right now as I’m sure are many others. You really need to come west some winter so we can caravan around together. #5820 for next week.
All your photos are great and I am picking the Antelope Canyon photo for my favorite.
Number next week is 7321
Thanks. #7321 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I loved the dancing aspens and I LOVE you pushing your cousin! What a lass, Please put me down for 5010 – yesterday,1st May our Lockdown restrictions were slightly eased primarily to get our economy back onto its feet again. It hasn’t made a difference to me working and walking around, here on the farm! Be safe, Jo
Thanks. Glad to hear you restrictions were slightly eased. Here to, in some places. #5010 for next week.
Who can pick a favorite? So many wonders. But I actually love that we got the hyenas…we just this week watched a video of a scientist who is studying these animals, Almost living among them, kind of like Jane Goodall did the apes….. it was so interesting. There is so much to learn about our fellow mammals! Anyway, # 362 next week? In honor of your Foto Friday Fun # it will be. I remain I n awe of how you keep track of your fabulous photo archives.
Thanks. I thought the hyenas were cool until one came close to the truck window and I could smell how foul they are. Yet it would be fun to study any animal like Goodall did. #362 for next week.
I couldn’t decide between the giraffe, the aspen, the neat burnt tree, the baby hyenas and humans, the shoreline at the Indian Ocean, or the shot of Antelope Canyon. Too many favorites this week. Number 60 next week, for the number of dog and human fingers and toes in the house currently. Thank you for your posts–they’re helping me keep a facsimile of normalcy amidst the chaos.
Thanks. Seems like you like them all. #60 it will be this week.
Oh I love all the shots from this week! But the link brought me to a fossilized Turtle Shell and that touched my heart, that was my favorite! <3 <3 <3 8*)
may I please have 2782 for my May daughter? Deja, who you are getting to know quite well at Christmas time, lately!! Sneaky kid, but she knows what I love!! <3 <3 <3 8*)
Thank you <3 8*)
Thanks. Glad you liked the fossil site. #2782 for this week.
