This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including hiking Grand Canyon and the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa, some small wildlife, and my old hiking buddy Carson.
Liberalwarrior chose #6363. A nice repetitive pattern that goes well with the ear vines I make. Or should I say made, as I haven’t made any in a long time. Once I started blogging my beading went out the window.
Jim and Diana chose #214, a panorama. This flat area on the Bright Angel Trail was a welcome sight on my first rim-to-rim hike across Grand Canyon in 2008. It’s located at the top of the Devil’s Corkscrew and signals that Indian Garden isn’t too far ahead. Of course there’s still getting to the South Rim which you can see in the distance.
Diane and Nigel chose #304. In 2008, my first year working at Grand Canyon, Carson and I spent a lot of time exploring the area, especially trails on the Kaibab National Forest where he was allowed.
Rita chose #0693. A beautiful and harmless three-foot Gopher snake seen on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Lisa chose #1403, “the start of my quarantine.” Except that it’s cold there right now, I wouldn’t mind being quarantined at the North Rim Grand Canyon where this foggy shot was taken on the Bright Angel Point Trail 8-18-10.
Doris chose #2017, “the year I hike to Phantom Ranch to celebrate my 70th birthday.” I am impressed. As I also was when backpacking in the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa where this shot was taken 3-17-10.
Yogi chose #4320. Another shot from the Bright Angel Point trail head on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. I love how the sunset colors are mimicked on the canyon walls. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Sherry chose #9118. Another canyon sunset from a different view near where my RV was parked the summer of 2014.
Jeff chose #1000, “the fine for violating San Diego’s closures.” Not sure I couldn’t have been fined for feeding the hummingbirds outside my RV on the North Rim in 2009. Park looked the other way as long as there was no seed.
Jodee and Bill chose #226. I caught a lot of sun through the back window on my previous 5th-wheel parked in Yarnell, Arizona.
Jo chose #7000. You know how much I like rocks and there was no shortage of boulders along the Barker Dam trail in Joshua Tree National Park, California.
Melissa chose #2021. Another view from the Drakensburg hike as above.
Susie chose #0324. The doorway view from my desk in the Yarnell house taken 2-21-19. Had a couple Anna’s hummingbirds hang out all winter.
My choice from last summer at Bryce Canyon National Park which is currently closed. So, I’m dreaming of my return with a new start date of May 3rd, I hope.

Do you have a favorite this week?
You must know how hard it is to choose a favorite from the wide variety of beauties you present to us each week! I narrowed it down to three – both sunset photos are phenomenal and then the hanging crystals are stunning. Hope you are staying well. My pic for next week – 0123 (my son’s birthday)
Thanks. I so enjoy when shots come up in my number search and trigger a memory. Can’t go wrong with sunsets. I am missing crystals and the rainbows they throw around my house but that doesn’t work when I’m traveling. #0123 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, thank you again for these interesting photos . My favorites are the bird feeders. Please make my number next week chosen from random.org is 4689. Happy Easter. Jo
Thank you. I am glad you enjoy the images as much as I do. Wish I’d brought my small window hummingbird feeder along on this trip. Though I am watching other birds. #4689 for next week.
Love all the photos as always but our favourite is our own shot of Carson, bet you have some very happy memories there. Hope all is going well in your world at the present time. Take care and stay safe, 1004 for next week please. Very best wishes and hugs from Diane and Nigel
Thanks. Carson was a special guy, and so is Sierra. I’m doing well in the desert. #1004 for next week.
Too many great shots this week to pick a favorite. Number 4356 for next week, please. I hope you and Sierra are well.
Thanks. We are doing great out here in the desert other than she’d like to go outside which isn’t going to happen. #4356 for next week.
My favorite is the photo of Bryce. Looking back and looking forward to more stunning vistas . You have captured the unbelievable color contrasts of this area. So I will pick 5320 for your next picture of Bryce. I wish you wildflowers on your adventure.
Mary
Thank you. I too am looking forward to seeing Bryce again, someday, and maybe with spring flowers. #5320 for next week.
I love rocks, also. #7001 to hopefully see more at JT.
How can people not love rocks! We’ll see what #7001 brings up next week.
Being a ‘Rock Hugger’, too, I choose that last one of Bryce.
I saw some impressive monolithic Serpentine rocks in and along the ‘Little River’ on my meander yesterday. A beautiful scenic Spring drive in southern Oregon. Passed many ‘Century Farms’ along the way with pastures blazing in irridescent green with wild flowers fragrantly on display.
I should have left the sporties top at home. Next time I will go topless.
You all stay safe
9111 for next Friday, Gaelyn.
Thanks. Sure hope I get back to Bryce this summer.
Serpentine is such an unusual and delightful rock. Glad you are getting out and hope it stays warm enough to go topless.
#9111 for next week.
I too like to feed the Anna Hummers, but find them to be quite territorial with one protecting a reliable food source from his competition. They must trust you more! there’s 4 on your feeder!
For next week I’d like 1776 the year our nation gained its independence, Next month we should be able to enjoy some of that independence.
Those Anna’s are very protective. But I think the feeder in the park has Broad-tailed hummers on it and I frequently saw multiples. #1776 for next week.
I always love the deserts and canyons, but the vivid green of Africa is so inviting! Love the crystal-filled window and I’m reminded that I should add some to my own windows here.
#833 for next week please.
I miss having crystals throw rainbows around the camper but that would be one more thing to batten down. #833 for next week.
Ooohhh…I’m liking that gopher snake! You guessed it…let’s do 207 next week.
#207 for next week.
Beautiful photos as always, especially of the canyon and the gopher snake. Number 8034 for next week.
Thanks. #8034 for this week.
I love the snake! Ours are still sleeping… cheers
Thanks. One of my desert neighbors saw a rattler out so I am vigilant when out walking.
Just for the heck of it, how ’bout #4356. For next week. Enjoy!
#4356 it is for this week.
For the record Gaelyn, I hate snakes so was so surprised that my number was indeed a snake. Favourite this week is Sunset at Bright Angel Point trail at North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. I will try no 3649 for next week please. Stay safe while in isolation. and let’s hope the virus will soon be over with. Have a good weekend.
Sorry about the snake. Grand Canyon sunsets are better than that. #3649 for this week.
#304. I want to stand at this sign some day. Hoping for the best for you with May 3 @ Bryce!! Next week I choose #912.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t done the Saddle Mt trail. This was at the junction with the Arizona Trail. But any trail is good. Thanks, crossing fingers, for you and me. #912 for next week.
Looks like the quarantine is bringing people back to your blog. Good for them. Love your window crystals, how cheery they are. Very happy to see my picture of the rim sunset and the one above it and the great last shot of Bryce. Fabulous landscape pictures. David and I intended to hike to Phantom. It was on our bucket list. And then he got sick and didn’t have the stamina. His niece did it for him and sent him a Phantom Ranch T-shirt that he prized. Lucky those of you who got to go.
Opps-how about # 7000 for next week.
Thanks. Does seem like quite a few new faces on the blog. Maybe people are just bored. I think you could still hike to Phantom Ranch. #7000 for this week.
Although I enjoyed every photo, the Doggy won my heart this week!! <3 8*)
Hubby picked 1452 out of the air for next week, please. <3 <3 <3 8*)
I am not surprised. I miss that dog all the time. #1452 for this week.
