This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including elephants, Grand Canyon, two panoramas, and lots of clouds because I love clouds.
Diane and Nigel chose #603, a place they know. My first visit to South Africa in March 2010, we took several days exploring Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve as a marvelous introduction to the ‘veld’ landscape including this panoramic view at God’s Window.
Doris chose #2354. Toroweap offers an iconic view looking 3000 feet straight down into the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. Yet it’s also a rather narrow area of the canyon and this shot is looking across during the late light of the day.
Jo chose #7000. As she’s been ill, I’m sending healing sunrays as seen from Cape Royal on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park. (My favorite this week.)
Jeff chose #1948, “the year San Felipe’s Bar Miramar opened.” Where he’s probably sipping margaritas. I’ve been known to sip a few Prickly Pear Margaritas on the North Rim’s lodge veranda where this shot was taken but not when under early morning light.
Rita chose #7563. My favorite animal, who I could watch all day and that would be possible at the waterholes in Addo Elephant National Park.
Jennifer chose #2020. Although I am mostly a landscape photographer I am also a nepholographer because I am fascinated by clouds. Taken in Kirkland, Arizona 2014.
Sherry chose #742, a three-shot panorama. Another South African stop after the above God’s Window was the Three Rondavels overlook. Houses and chalets are often called Rondavels taking after cone-topped cylindrical shapes in nature.
Melissa chose #7, a scanned image from March 1975. Growing up in the west suburbs of Chicago, Illinois I am thankful for forest preserves and state parks where I played in nature. Starve Rock State Park along the Illinois River offered forest and tiny canyons with waterfalls and creeks. Beautiful in all seasons.
Yogi chose #1824, the year in American history of the Corrupt Bargain when an ancestor of mine was elected president. Go ahead, look that up. After you look down on these clouds that swirled at our feet when hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa in 2010.
Lisa chose #9005. More low clouds, this time at sunset over the Widforss Plateau from the North Rim Lodge Grand Canyon National Park. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
My choices: from the last morning on the Kofa compared to first morning at Darby where I am now waiting out the rain.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
I think I may have to give up choosing a favorite. All of these are just so very fine. Clearly you have been an excellent photographer for years judging from the one you posted taken back in the 70s. I’ll try number 7346 for next week.
Thank you for the fine compliment. I don’t think the photos are always good but I seem to have an eye for composition and balance from way back. #7346 for next week.
Oh yes, amazing memories of Blyde River Canyon. First time I camped there was with my mum in !979 when we toured the whole garden route. I remember packing up a wet tent when we left. In later years Nigel and I camped there with the same tent – guess what, we packed up a wet tent 😊 This of course as to be my favourite photo this week. 1303 for next week please. Have a good weekend, hugs from us both. Diane and Nigeel
LOL, I do know about packing up wet tents but not under those interesting circumstances. #1303 for next week.
I enjoyed all the clouds and rock this week. Thank you! <3 8*)
i would like to try 111 for next week, please. <3 <3 <3 8*)
Thank you. #111 for next week.
I love them all. I hope I didn’t hurt any feelings about the Corrupt Bargain. My number next week is 2019 in dishonor of the Covid 19 virus.
Thanks. I thought the irony of the Corrupt Bargain was my ancestor involved. Something I didn’t know about. #2019 for next week, and hopefully all are healthy.
Hi Gaelyn, No favourite this week because they are all such brilliant photo’s. Elephants are my favourite animals too. No 7373 for next week please. Have a great weekend.
Thanks. #7373 for next week. Enjoy your weekend.
Wow Gaelyn, the healing rays in the picture I chose, are spectacular. This is also my favorite. I have just returned from seeing the view of the Central Drakensberg as depicted in another photo in your post. Watching the sun setting over our Valley. My number next week is 4038 ( 2019 x 2!) Stay safe and healthy. Hugs Jo
Healing takes time as we hang onto memories sparked by a place. You set a strong example for family, and friends. Hugs to you. And #4038 for this week.
The elephants! I love them so much. And the neph…. eek, the cloud pictures! I loved learning that word from you a long time ago, because I am fascinated by them too. Just can’t seem to learn to spell it. Thanks for all the beauty. If there’s room next week I will take 818. Stay well.
Thanks Sallie. I had to spell nepholography many times before I quit looking it up again. #818 for this week.
The North Rim lodge shot is my favorite this week, though it was a close call. Number 2776 for next week please 🙂
Thanks. #2776 for this week.
