This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including Earth, art, and curls.
Jennifer chose #8888. Sandstone eroding back to sand along the Wire Pass trail on the hike to the Wave in southern Utah. As much as she likes rocks, and really who doesn’t, the Wave is a must see even if only in photographs.
Diane and Nigel chose #702. From first hike on Wire Pass trail in 2009 through slot canyons and on the way to Buckskin Gulch slot canyon. Such a contrast, a dry desert carved by water.
Sue chose #2020, “just because I want to be optimistic that something good will happen in the coming year.” I’m with you on that! And seems many others have chosen this number as the oldest I could find from August 2016, a drive by shot of the clouds in southern Utah, because I’m a nepholographer.
Jeff chose #19, “having just watched “Only the Brave” documentary on the Yarnell fire where 19 firefighters died.” Although I was living at Grand Canyon at the time I considered Yarnell home and have no desire to see this movie. At another home during 1980 I lived in Hanover Park, Illinois and practiced the craft of stained glass. My ex-husband had a green thumb.
Melissa chose #521, “my GrandDaughter who Sparkles wherever she goes!” Quaking Aspen leaves also sparkle when blown in the wind and especially when they turn to gold in the fall. This shot from 2008 was taken along the edge of Harvey Meadow along the drive to the Widforss trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Rita chose #7965. A light dusting of snow frosts these mesas like a layer cake. Taken in January 2016–the winter I lived in Kanab, Utah–along SR9 heading west from Zion National Park.
Yogi chose #1177. Just one shot among thousands of sunsets over the Weaver Mountains from where I lived in Yarnell, Arizona. This one even includes crepuscular rays.
Jo chose #2008. This Bolete mushroom—that I think looks like a big muffin—was seen growing along the Arizona Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon. Although a delicious edible, it was the only one around so I left it something else to enjoy.
Sallie and Bill chose #67, “The percentage of battery left on my IPad this morning.” There were no iPads or iAnything back in 1984 when this shot of me was taken in my craft store in Tonasket, Washington. OMG, look at that hair! It took four hours to put in the perm-rods for those curls.
My choice is another version of Sunday night’s sunset taken from Shady Lane RV Park in Quartzsite, Arizona where I’m still parked to get the fridge repaired.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Nepholographer – A person who photographs clouds.
Clouds are so damn fascinating. A wonder to be understood. 7777 for next Friday.
And thus why I’m a nepholographer. #7777 for next week.
I love so much this week! Maybe it’s the Day? Happy Valentine’s Day! <3 8*)
Funny thing about my pick, I live near Harvey Lake!! Maybe James Stewart's Big White Rabbit friend visits both my lake and your meadow?! I would like 1950, the year "Harvey" was released, please! <3 <3 <3 8*)
Thanks. Happy Valentine’s Day to you.
I love that movie! Harvey Meadow on the North Rim was named after Fred Harvey who owned the mule concession.
#1950 for next week.
Speaking of Tonasket, we flew up to Omak* from The Dalles last week to look at an irrigated 17-acres on the east side of the Okanogan River just south of Tonasket for a possible Vineyard. The property has been used for years for growing Alfalfa, so the soil should be good for grapes. We might make an offer after due diligence and checking out costs and the future market potential for different varietals.
Was good to be back in the valley. We flew back by way of Twisp following the Methow to the Columbia, then followed the Columbia to the Saddle Mountains/Priest Rapids Dam, then cutting over to The Dalles. Cold, but a visually spectacular winter trip at maintained 3,500 AGL.
*I used to mow and weed the Omak airport for flying lessons when I was a kid, way before your time in the Okanogans.
Lots of alfalfa grown in the Okanogan Valley. Funny thing, my ex-husband and I considered starting a vineyard in that area. I am jealous about your flight, I’ll bet it was gorgeous.
Happy Valentine’s Day. No option in our favourite of the day this week, it has to be our photo of the slot canyon, I am so glad that we got to see at least one while we were there thanks to Michel and Mary. Otherwise the next choice would have been you with the long hair, great photo and a fab memory I am sure.
1402 for next week please. Have a great day, Diane and Nigel
I too am glad you saw a slot canyon, and with marvelous company. Enjoy Valentine’s Day. #1402 for next week.
The layer cake is my favorite this week. It reminds me of the Bookcliffs here in western CO and that we need some more snow still. The RV park sunset is also a contender—those rays! Number 1018 for next week, please.
Colorado needs lots of snow so the rest of the SW doesn’t suffer a shortage. #1018 for next week.
I love the slot canyon photo. Love the curls, four hours!!!!
Next week is 3276.
Thanks. I won’t ever have those kinds of curls again. #3276 for next week.
Superb shots here this week Gaelyn. Love the one of the sunset over Weaver mountains at Yarnell. But my fav has got to be that lovely photo of you at your craft store, what beautiful hair you have. No 9365 for next week please and enjoy your weekend.
Thanks. I’ll never perm my hair again. When it grew out I looked like a Cocker Spaniel. #9365 for next week.
So much fun, all of them. But I loved the photo of your store in Tonasket. I sold flowers at the Barter Faire there in 1988. So that’s my number.
OMG! That would have been the year I moved away from Tonasket. Small world. #1988 for next week.
Love the beauty of your world, and the fun of sharing glimpses of past “yous”!
#3511 for next week please.
Thanks. Fun for me to pull out these memories. #3511 for next week.
Love the little red stone slot. Looks like you could get through it easily. Also really love that sunset. The whole photo seems very powerful to me. I didn’t realize what an educational blog you write. I’ve added a word to my vocabulary and a mushroom I’d never heard of just from this post. Thanks Maybe best is those curls!! Why oh why did we spend so much time on our hair?? Ah to be young again, but only so young. Let me try #6937 for next time.
Wire Pass and Buckskin slot canyons aren’t terribly tight. Cool thing about the perm, is once the worse was over I didn’t have to do anything but wash that mop. I am a wash and wear girl when it comes to hair. #6937 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I love your choice which my number brought up. I also love the cat in a heartshaped [litter] tray! My number for next week 1602. It was Grant’s birthday yesterday! Have a great day. Jo
Thanks. I can easily imagine my cat sitting in that box. #1602 for next week.
You were cute in your curls … and patient! Four hours! Wow. Love the snowy scene on the way to Zion, but would rather love it in your pictures than IRL. I am so sorry to be so late commenting. I get slower every day. If not too late, I would take 2643, the minutes and seconds remaining on my convection oven. . (Another thing there wasn’t back in your craft shop days.).
If I’d been meant to have curls, I’d have been born with them. What was I thinking then? You are not too late. In fact I should get working on the post. #2643 for next week.
