This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including several shots at Grand Canyon plus a mishmash of other mostly national parks, Utah, Arizona, Washington, and South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #2401. When planning a mini-vacation in Utah fall of 2015 I coordinated the first stop at Hovenweep National Monument with a lunar eclipse. And, of course I posted about that here. What I hadn’t seen until processing this shot was what I assume is an airplane. That’s pretty cool.
Yogi chose #9976. A view he’s probably seen before and over the years of our friendship. This was a morning view from my RV parked on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park on 4-26-15. That’s before the North Rim was yet open for the season.
Jeff chose #2929 “the street address of the Mission Bay RV Park.” he recently posted about. There really isn’t a street address for the North Rim Grand Lodge, except end of the road where this turn around occurs. This is the Forever Resort cookout train in the 2014 4th of July water parade.
Jodee and Bill chose #259, one of four in a panorama. I was on the South Rim of Grand Canyon at Desert View Tower on 5-8-08 at a training session so this view includes the North Rim on the far left, Colorado River in the bottom of the canyon and Cedar Mountain on the far right.
Melissa chose #4096. I saw quite a few lions during the two visits to Kruger National Park in 2014.
Jo chose #2901, the date of her recently passed MIL’s memorial. This shot taken in June 2015 at the North Rim Grand Canyon seems appropriate as the circle rainbow effect is called a ‘glory’. May Pam RIP.
Sallie and Bill chose #3825, “I finished the Sunday crossword in 38 minutes and 25 seconds (there’s a timer on my app).” I use very few apps but do like PhotoPills for lining up the sun and moon. Like this sunset including crepuscular rays shot from Cape Royal on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park 8-24-16.
Deanna chose #549, the price of a much needed French press found at a thrift store. Coffee to go with those delicious cookies you bake? Plus a warm cuppa would be nice when snow is seen like in this 5-24-10 shot looking north from the Bright Angel Point trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Rita chose #7308. An iconic view of Grand Canyon from the North Rim’s Grand Lodge. I love the shadows seen late in the day highlighting the contours on the rock temples.
Lisa chose #617. During my first visit to South Africa in March 2010, my guide and friend Joan took me to several amazing places in the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve including Berlyn Falls.
Susie chose #1970, “the year my daughter was born.” The year 2015 introduced me to Bill and he to many new places in southern Utah and northern Arizona, like White Pocket. Love those swirly rocks.
Doris chose #104. I always admired the tenacity of this stump in the blast zone when I worked at Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument, my first Ranger job in 1992.
My choice because I saw what a photog friend did following after my visit to the Gillespie Dam last week and she shot in B&W.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
There are too many favorites this week to pick one. Trying to pick a couple was even too difficult, so I won’t attempt it. Thank you for brightening my Friday mornings. Number 5032 for next week, please!
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoy this as much as I do. #5032 for next week.
Some lovely Canyon shots here Gaelyn, thanks. Favourite is Berlyn Falls at Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. No 5075 for next week please. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Rita. Waterfalls are just as good as Grand Canyon. #5075 for next week.
Now if it was not for our photo we would have had a problem choosing a favourite, but the lunar shot to us just stands out. Love the snowy canyon as well. It first it looked like choppy water. 3101 for next week please. Very best wishes, Diane and Nigel
Forgot that circular rainbow is pretty special as well.
Thanks. I figured you’d like that moon shot. #3101 for next week.
Those rocks, but the sun set is amazing. #122
I knew you’d like all those rocks. 😉 #122 for next week.
My favorite is ALL of them! I lived in the PNW before their ‘Big Bang’ and was there for it, so not only is the mountain special so are waterfalls … Now living in SoCAL, so are the deserts. For next week I’d like 1774 the year the local natives led Juan Bautista de Anza to water in the Yuha Desert.

something went wrong with this one, Gaelyn…
I agree with Lisa. I can’t possibly pick even 5 favorites. What great pictures. These would make a terrific calendar themselves. That first one is amazing. Then there are the canyon shots and the circle rainbow and the sunset. Oh my. This is just too hard. I’ll choose 2420 the day I really do have to get a site for next year at an impossible campground.
Thanks, you are kind considering how old some of these photos are. Good luck with the reservation. #2420 for next week.
I love the Berlyn Falls photo, the creek comes straight down to the falls and down it goes. Gravity is awesome sometimes. Sometimes its a bitch.
Next week is 7711.
I hope your wrists are continuing to heal.
Thanks. I am happy with gravity as long as it’s not me that’s falling. 😉 I’m still working the home PT and wrists continue to improve. #7711 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, the “glory” in my image choice is beautiful, as was MIL’s memorial. I’m posting about it shortly. My favorite is your B&W image. It’s spurred me on to try different images on my camera. My number for next week is 4999; the cost in ZA Rands of my new laptop – the first that I’ve ever had to purchase on my own. Here’s wishing you a wonderful week ahead. Jo
Thanks. I so rarely think to shoot in B&W or even change from color to that. I’d say your laptop cost is comparable to here. #4999 for next week.
I agree with a bunch of the others, too many amazing photos to choose just one! Although, I didn’t know about a rainbow Circle!! <3 <3 <3 8*)
May I please have 1120 in honor of my sweet grandson who is one of the lights of my life, please? Thank you!! <3 <3 <3 8*)
Thanks. #1120 for this week.
Your side-bar about “everybody is a photographer…” is quite appropriate for our beautIful sky picture. I’m everybody on A and, as that picture and all yours prove, you are *really* a photographer. Thanks for all the gorgeous NP adventures and for all you do there and here. 2220 if somebody hasn’t already picked yesterdays date. It was our youngest great-grands first BD, besides being a really cool number .
Thank you. I think you make fine photographs. #2220 for this week.
