Lots of interesting exercises and some gray rainy days during the last two weeks of PT (Physical Therapy).
After I got settled into my RV space at North Ranch last month I set up several weeks of PT mostly Mon, Tues, and Wed like I was doing in Cedar City. I do have about a 15 minute drive now instead of the 10 minute walk and my appointments tend to be in the morning instead of afternoon. But it’s all good. I’m getting lots of practice backing up, leveling by not too much, and plugging into electricity because I have to move my home on wheels whenever I want to drive somewhere.
My social skills at the park have only improved a little. Met some gals that meet up twice a week with their various beading projects. I don’t think I could hold a hair-size beading needle right now and don’t have my bead stuff with me. Other than for making earvines which I was told I could teach. They have a bead supply that puts mine to shame and could open a store.
Paid $5 towards Thanksgiving dinner and signed up to bring a dessert that came from Safeway. Lunch at 2pm in the activity center for 200 people was delicious. Met three delightful couples at my table. I am grateful to have a place to be.
Gray skies dropped only a little rain that day but it rained on and off all night and snowed less than 2000 feet above on the Weaver Mountains. Strange to look at those mountains from this opposite side from Yarnell where I watched for years.
PT starts with arm cycling for five minutes to improve upper arm strength. Picking up marbles one by one from a small jar and then putting them back for fine motor skills. Squeeze a clip with each finger 20 times. Go ahead, try that with your pinky finger and thumb. After a few other exercises the therapist stretches on my wrists with noticeable increase in mobility.
If it’s not a PT day, or I cancel due to wet weather, it’s a hang at home day when it’s gray.
Joann came for a visit and we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon chatting plus a drive out Ghostown Road and late lunch at Nichols West. Plus we saw sundogs and a new to me phenomenon called a circumzenithal arc, or a grin. Both are caused by sun reflecting off ice crystals in clouds.
I still do PT at home but I thought the can opener was going to defeat me. Pressure and turning at the same time not so easy on these healing wrists. Good thing I don’t usually eat caned food so no need to buy an electric opener to take up space.
PT is helping. I’m now typing with all fingers again. I still can’t attach the sewer hose. It’s a PT goal. Along with using my big camera. Have to see what happens in another two weeks of PT.
Physical therapists have the most creative exercises. In my concussion PT, I was doing a lot of standing and walking with my head bobbing in various directions and patterns. I felt ridiculous doing these exercises at home, but the neighbors already think I’m a bit zany so I got over it quickly.
It sounds like you’ve got a good community there. Are there any good walking trails or paths around you?
Crazy PT but seems to work. There are ATV trails within walking distance that I’ve been too lazy to check out.
It sounds like you’re definitely getting better with the PT which is very good news. Glad you’ve met nice people there. I received my calendar and love it….thank you!
Thanks. Glad you like the calendar.
Glad you are on thee mend. Not sure I could open a peg with my pinky and thumb, I sometimes struggle hanging the clothes on the line with both hands!!
Love that circumzenithal arc, a new one on me and one I am not likely to see here me thinks.
Take care and keep exercising, you need to get that strength back. Diane and Nigel.
Now you have an exercise to strengthen your hands. That arc totally caught me off guard. On my way to PT this morning.
I doubt if all the practice of setting up and breaking down the rig counts toward PT. Interesting exercises they are having you do, are you going to be ambidextrous after all this?
I have never heard of an circumzenithal arc and had to look it up, now I want to see one!
Spoil sport. I figure everything I accomplish using my hands is PT. But don’t think that will make me ambidextrous. My first rainbow grin. 🙂
I’m not sure what your issue is with the sewer hose. A couple years ago I could not connect mine because of psoriasis arthritis in my hands. I got these https://www.amazon.com/Camco-39758-Rhinoflex-Fitting-Wrench/dp/B00OJHPQSQ and they have been well worth the price. I also got this https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Opener-Base/dp/B002DWA6KM?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B002DWA6KM to help me open jars.
It is hell to get old and somewhat embarrassing to ask the waitress to open the Cholula bottle for me but you do what you have to do.
Thanks. Those both just went on my wish list for the next order. I don’t feel old yet, and even this beats the alternative.
Glad to hear PT is going well. Good to keep using those wrists to gain strength. North Ranch would be a great place to be if you need help or want company. There are usually very friendly people there. Love the sky and snowy mountain photos!
Thanks. This is a good place to be for now. I need to get out more.
I got to see that clothes pin in action. You are foing great and healing fast. What a great place there in N.Ranch to see the sunsets and get well.
It’s getting easier and better.
Great work Gaelyn, your getting there. I admire your determination with all the P.T. take it easy though and don’t overdo it. Love all the photo’s here especially the lovely skies.
Thanks. PT is truly helping but I might have over done yesterday as I hurt a bit today.
Congratulations on your progress. I’ve been thinking of you.
Thanks. Stop by, I’m just down the hill.
Very interesting getting the rundown of the exercises you are doing. I could not do that clothespin one with my little finger and thumb or probably with the ring finger…you are doing so well ! …. glad the winter home spot is working for you. I could easily be a complete homebody and solo explorer, but when I do get out and do one of the many social activities this park offers, I’m always glad I did. (I pick and choose though, doing only a small fraction of what’s available.)
So now you have an exercise to strengthen your hands.
I love people but could also be a hermit.
Glad to hear of the progress you are making. Wonderful sky pictures. Sorry I’m so late. Motivation is a big problem for me. Wish I could order up PT for that. It would help if this weren’t the 3rd day of constant blowing rain. Trapped inside. Wishing big improvement for you.
Thanks. I understand a lack of motivation. Just watched over an hour of sunset colors through the window and didn’t rush out to take photos. Maybe a new hobby.
Keep on keeping on. The few times I have had PT it seems like things go very slow but the healing takes work and time. Thanks for the update.
I’m working it. Does seem slow, but I’ve come a long ways too.
