This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including sunsets, South Africa, and Arizona.
Jo chose #1516. Just a few days before Halloween 2011 driving the Johnson Canyon Road past an old movie set in southern Utah was like a true step back in time.
Rita chose #9884. A delightful sunset after a full day of safari in Pilaneaberg Game Reserve, south Africa 2014.
Diane and Nigel chose #2211. A view they may remember of Grand Canyon from the North Rim lodge. Rangers get paid in sunsets. Overtime for the moon. Double-time when sharing with visitors.
Debi chose #3546. While sauntering along the Arizona trail, or any trail for that matter, unusual shapes attract my attention. Quaking Aspen stump on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona 6/24/15.
Sue chose #1995. After a downpour and warm soaking while backpacking into the Drakensburg Mountains the clouds broke and lifted from the ‘tablecloth’ as described in South Africa. From my first visit March 2010.
Jennifer chose #1789. I hope she is no longer in a fog from cough meds, because then she’ll look forward to seeing flowers come spring. These red Paintbrush were washed out by fog at the Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon during monsoon 7/31/10.
Jeff chose #6138, “the elevation of Palomar Observatory.” This shot may be 6.138 feet above the Indian Ocean. And I’d like to see 0 persons jumping on the bridge across Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikmma National Park, South Africa.
Jodee and Bill chose #2311. I actually labeled this shot “Butt rock” taken during my first visit to Toroweap on the north side of Grand Canyon National Park 9/27/10.
Yogi chose #6491, “which was the combined win-loss-win-loss total for the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots before they played their game earlier today.” Which makes no sense to me. What does make sense is this view of the Storms River canyon—same river as above a few miles upstream—from the Paul Sauer bridge.
Sallie and Bill chose #55, “I’m looking for an oldie but goody.” While working at Mt St Helens during the summer of 1992, the blast zone offered many unlimited views of surrounding Cascade peaks like Mt Hood and Adams but you had only one view of Mt Rainier.
My first choice #0026, because nobody picks 00 numbers and it was the 26th. If you closely our vehicle is reflected in the eye, it was that close. Taken in Pilanesburg Game Reserve 4/1/14.
My second share of a rig leaving the park. Where’s their boat?
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Not one photo here that is not worth being a favourite. Having said that we love our canyon shot and of course all the RSA ones. 2911 for next week please. Very best wishes, Diane and Nigel.
Thanks. #2911 for next week.
Answer _ Behind the RV trailer. Or were you being facetious.
The Storms River canyon sure looks interesting.
Memories of the almost fresh Blast Zone not long after they got the roads punched back in. Unworldly sights. There was no public access unless you had a project there. Many pockets of buried hot pyroclastic ash still steaming on the landscape and small eruption events, but mostly rock and ash slides in the crater and still moving slide area.
It was hard to fathom the complete obliteration of the once beautiful pristine area and the Lake filled with debris where once idyllic cabins, docks and a festive atmosphere once prevailed. Seems like yesterday, but nearly 40-years now.
9998 for next week, please, Gaelyn.
There was no boat.
You can rent a kayak and paddle up Storms River canyon. I haven’t done that yet.
I only saw photos of the dense forests and recreation areas around Mt St Helens. And occasionally a tear in the eyes of those who spent time there before the eruption.
#9998 for next week.
The blast/slide area remained dangerously hot for quite a long time. It was an interesting time watching the effects of the eruption on the land and lake(s), and the slow return of nature. I remember an Elk herd moving east through the deep ash. Seems the ungulates and small animals were the first to return.
After your wrist issues, mine bronchitis is so small.
I’m glad you are on the road, again. Keep on truckin’!
I love your photos. My daughter, a hydrogeologist, would love your rocks!
#0063
I’ve had bronchitis and it’s not small. Right on, you get #0063 for next week.
The pictures of the Grand Canyon are absolutely stunning, but the Storms River was my favorite this week. Glad you made it out of Utah before the storms! Number 21 for next week, please.
Thank you. Me too. Only rain here, so far. #21 for next week.
Good morning Gaelyn, Love the first photo of the film set, really weird. Favourite this week is Storm River Canyon. No 5938 for next week please. Hope the physio is working well for you . For this reason take care on your travels.
I actually used binoculars to make sure that wasn’t a real person being hung. You just never know in Utah. PT helps, getting better, not there yet. #5938 for next week.
We have a Butt Mountain (it’s a small hill really) on the way to Sierra Vista :-)) The rock is more “defined” though! The Drakensburg Mountain shot is stunning – so majestic and powerful. Of course the Zebra is very handsome!
#0328 for next week please
A fine name for a mountain. Thanks, the Drakensburgs rate high on my mountains list. #0328 for next week. (Thanks for the 0.)
my favorite is the zebra. It looks very punk to me with a mohawk looking haircut.
313 is the number from random dot org. I thought about being a smartass and saying 3.13 and then my mind switched to pi but you know you have enough to deal with right now. So maybe I’ll pull that stunt next year except I’d forget so remind me okay?
Glad you noticed the zebra’s mohawk. #313 for next week.
Me again, got the calendar, love it!!
You do not take any bad photos, so the only way to pick a favorite is what speaks to me at the time. Both choices from Jo and Jodee brought a laugh!
Next week I’d like 924 as The Ohio State Buckeyes dominated Michigan today for their 924th win.
Thanks, you are too kind considering how old some of the shots are. #924 for next week.
Oh my lord, that 5-W is probably a toy hauler and the boat and golf cart and ATV are in the back! Nothin’ like getting away from it all! We did get our old but goody and it was a Pacific NW nostalgia shot, so couldn’t be better! I loved the Zebra (up really close, wow)…so I will take 0010 just to see what happens! Air travel this week, so hopefully we will be home and dug out and be hooked up by weeks end.
I wouldn’t doubt it but don’t understand why so many toys are needed unless your moving. And you are moving his time quickly by air. #0010 for next week.
