This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including distant views in the US Southwest.
Diane and Nigel chose #1511. Yup, that’s me, Ranger Gaelyn at Grand Canyon National Park in 2009.
Jo chose #1905. From my first visit to White Pocket in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument during the end of May 2015. Not easy to get to but spectacular to see.
Lisa chose #617, “for the time in the morning when I am too sleepy to write complete and comprehensible comments.” This shot taken one morning when I felt befuddled by this squirrel’s white belly. Tassel-eared squirrels on the north side of Grand Canyon, called Kaibab squirrel, doesn’t have a white belly like the Abert squirrel seen on the south side of the canyon. Wildlife biologist said it was an anomaly.
Sue chose #2020, one of three in a panorama. I like dry-camping at Kelso Dunes and watching the last rays of sun change the light and shadow over the sand’s contour.
Jeff chose #240, “the number of consecutive days SoCal has been without rain.” Felt like it took that many days the first time I hiked Grand Canyon rim-to-rim in 2008, and this shot was only half way up.
Kathy chose #1121. At 11,000 feet, the view south from Brian Head overlook encompasses Cedar Breaks National Monument and beyond across southern Utah.
Rita chose #8329. Sometimes the rock shapes and colors in the Southwest surpass the imagination. Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada is a good place to see that and only an hour away from the concrete jungle of Las Vegas.
Yogi chose #6461. A different kind of rock with equally interesting erosional shaping, the granite’s not so colorful in Joshua Tree National Park, California.
Jodee and Bill chose #928. Because I’m a road warrior I shoot a lot of roads. And when I can see a different road from the one I’m on, I want to drive that one too. The paved SR89 in southern Utah provides access to the gravel House Rock Valley Road, not always in great shape, seen in the distance that goes to SR89A in Arizona.
Sherry chose #847. Driving into the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park through meadows and forests.
Sallie and Bill chose #124, their departure date from Oregon. Being they’re headed to Florida they could route past the Colorado River in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lee’s Ferry.
My choice this week is home sweet home in Congress, Arizona just to show you I made it. More about the journey coming soon.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hi Gaelyn, welcome home! I love the squirrel. My number for next week is 1516. Hugs Jo PS I have finally posted on my own blog after a two month absence!
Love this set of photos, but ours is our favourite, great shot. 2211 for next week please Diane and Nigel
Thanks. #2211 for next week.
Welcome home to you also. #1516 for next week.
Congress… About 3,000 ft. You going to be warm enough in the camper.
I have family in Sun City West and might be staying for a few days there in January so maybe we could meet up, if your up.to.it
Now that the rain storm is past the temps are heading back into the sunny 60s. Let me know when you’ll be around, I’d like to meet up. No number this week?
Hi Gaelyn, glad you made it. My favourite this week is Grand Canyon rim-rim , the journey you took in 2008 what a fabulous view. I hope you will soon be fully recovered and your wrists are healing well. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks. I thought you’d like that canyon view looking up. #9884 for next week.
Sorry, forgot to give you a number for next week. 9884 thanks.
Hi Gaelyn! I love your Friday posts! These are great pictures, all of them. Let’s see …. how about 3546. For no particular reason.
Thanks. #3546 for next week.
As always, some fun photos, but I think my favorite is the photo of the weathered granite in Joshua Tree NP. I have a framed print that I bought back in 1995 of something similar hanging over my desk that I treasure, along with a framed shot of White House in Canyon de Chelly. Both are the last two pieces of someone else’s photography that I actually purchased. Not only because I am sorta attached to my own, but because I have no more wall space. Searching for a corner for you calendar, and can’t wait to get it. It will be here in the place of honor with those other two framed photos. Maybe I picked 1995 before, but let’s try that one again.
Thank you. I feel honored to have my photos on display at your home as I have no wall space to hang anything. #1995 for next week.
I enjoy your photos. You are an amazing woman.
We had hail this a.m., then snow. Like, whatever!
I’m loopy on cough meds, but how about #1789
Thanks. You are also an amazing woman. You keep that white stuff. Please take care. #1789 for next week.
All good photos, and your comments bring them to life. Next week I’d like 6138 the elevation of Palomar Observatory.
Thanks. I so enjoy the random image invoked memories. #6138 for next week.
Wonderful to see so many beautiful places, some providing memories and others adding to the long list! That rock shape in Joshua Tree is fascinating.
2311 for next week please.
Thanks. It is fun to add to the ‘to do’ list. #2311 for next week.
Amazing photos as always. Glad you made it Commerce. I guess home is where you are, since your the GeoGypsy.
I hope that you are continuing to heal and I wish you a great Thanksgiving.
Next week’s number is 6491 whichwas the combined win-loss-win-loss total for the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots before the they played their game earlier today.
Thanks. Yes, home is where I park it. #6491 for next week.
Beautiful scenery … and that rim to rim hike you made is just so amazing to even think about! But it’s the road pictures and your words about them that speak to me today! I too always wish we could take all the roads we pass when were on a trip. …..! I’m so glad to know you arrived safely ! …. what about 55 next week…I’m looking for an oldie but goody.
Thanks. Sure glad I hiked the canyon when I still could. We’ll see what #55 brings next week.
