This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including water, deep lake and tiny lake, puddle, ocean, small creek and mighty river.
Jim and Diana chose #179, “the remaining distance this morning to our winter home; full circle on what was our most traveled year yet.” 2007 was a heavily traveled year for me and my last summer season as a Ranger at Oregon Caves. This shot from mid-September on a long weekend to Crater Lake.
Lisa chose #2109. Kaibab National Forest includes meadows, and sometimes what are called lakes. When driving AZ67 to the North Rim Grand Canyon Crane Lake appears to grow and shrink with precipitation.
Sue chose #2013. A luscious view down the trail when I hiked in the Drakensburg Mountains during my first visit to South Africa in 2010.
Jennifer chose #1549. These Aspen were just starting to turn colors the end of September 2009 near the Widforss Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Tredeuce chose #8389. When self-driving on safari in a low pickup truck tall grass obscures wildlife. Yet even without animals the Mountain Zebra National Park offers diverse South African landscapes.
Rita chose #8845, one of two in a panorama. Yet another South African landscape, sunrise in the Kgalagdi Transfrontier Park.
Jo chose #5919 with the help of random dot org. A rather weak sunset over the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, where I certainly saw better over the several visits to South Africa.
Yogi and random dot org chose #5354. I find it interesting when traveling in South Africa and see a plant I know from home, like this Portulaca in Scottburg.
Sallie and Bill chose #1957, “Our wedding anniversary (of that year) is coming up this month.” This first visit in 2010 to Toroweap was for a birthday celebration instead of anniversary. If you don’t mind heights, this 3000 foot drop to the Colorado River offers an iconic Grand Canyon view.
I haven’t taken photos in so long, but all of these are favorites because of the memories evoked.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
How appropriate that our photo was Wizard Island, with so many of out sites from our trip having had Harry Potter references. Let’s take 950 for next week, as that is the time of Monday morning’s next SpaceX Starlink launch.
Too bad that launch is during as we won’t see the string of lights across the sky. #950 for next week.
Nice catch of a rare side hill grove of communal Aspen. I hever seen that before in the NW. There must be and up hill seep.
Thanks. I have seen this growth pattern all over the North Kaibab but there are lots of seep springs.
I love the long green canyon in my photo choice. You are right. Lots of water and green in this one. I’ll choose 919 for the last time we had a tiny rain here. Extremely dry fall shaping up here after a decent summer in Oregon.
Thanks. Sorry about the lack of rain which seems unusual in the PNW. But then, what’s normal about weather. #919 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I always click on the link of the hike you and Joan did with John. Incredible to think that I actually LIVE in the Central Drakensberg – and happily so. I loved all your images of your SA travels yet, the Toroweap photo is my favourite ! My number for next week is 5300 which just popped into my head! Have a great week. Jo
Thank you. I too am in awe that you live with those gorgeous mountains. #5300 for next week. You have been on my mind.
Sorry seems like I missed a Friday. Many dramas, we were both ill also the people we were with in the Cape so never got to see Joan. Will catch up with news when we get back home on 14th. 911 for next week please. Diane and Nigel
Sorry to hear everybody’s been sick. I heard from Joan. #911 for next week.
Thoroughly enjoyed your photos, especially the ones of the North Rim. Your photos always bring back fond memories of our days as Volunteers up there. If all works out as planned, we are going to be up on the Rim on early October 2020 with our two daughters and one son-in-law joining us for our 55th anniversary.
Thanks. Keep me posted on that 2020 plan and I’ll try to get up there.
These beautiful photos of greenery are just the thing for a brown fall day. My eyes were hungry for photos such as these. Number 3648 for next week, please!
Thanks. Glad to bring green into your life. #3648 for next week.
Always great photos, but Toroweap is spectacular! For next week I’d like 1110, today’s Nov 10, our return from the San Felipe.
Thanks. You’re back already? #1110 for next week.
I wish we could celebrate our Anniversary in the place you gave us for our picture, Toroweap is amazing. You are blest by the goddess of photography( there should be one if there isn’t already) to have such a great and well organized archive! One of my reasons to take pics and to blog is for the memories when I no longer can travel or snap pics (or both). You of course will be back doing both before too long. …. next week 1128, the actual day of that anniversary mentioned before (and Thanksgiving) which I’m actually quite grateful to be spending with family. But still wish we could visit Toroweap on any other day!
Thanks. Glad I’ve been so dedicated labeling photos all my life. Wish I could whisk you to Toroweap for your anniversary, or any time. Sure glad you will be celebrating with family. #1128 for next week.
Oh crud, I forgot to change my comment to my real and active blog. Sorry.
That’s OK, although you did make me wonder at first.
I love’em all but especially the photo with the aspens. That is one of things I miss most about the west are the aspens. We don’t have any in Oklahoma.
Number for next time is 8732. Just popped out of my head.
Thanks. You may not have aspen but lots of deciduous trees that turn colors. #8732 for next week.
