This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including rocky cliffs some with waterfalls, clouds, and birds.
Gilda chose #2019. During an extremely quick visit to Zion National Park with Pat June, 7, 2014 I took shots through the shuttle’s open skylight.
Jim and Diana chose #6690, (1of3 in a panorama) “which is the elevation we were at on the platform at the top of Clingman’s Dome in North Carolina yesterday.” I was at sea level bouldering adjacent to the Indian Ocean, approaching a cave, on the way to a waterfall in Tsitsikamma National Park during my 2014 visit to South Africa.
Lisa chose #2311. I frequently take photos of signs to help remind me where pics were taken months later when I get around to labeling photos. The Snake Gulch trail into the wilderness leads to pictograph and petroglyph evidence of the earliest people in the canyon.
Jo chose #1107, “the impending date I hope to travel to my old home town in the Free State.” An area that looks nothing like these sandstone cliffs and teepees yet make me think of them in a free state. Instead this can be seen along the Johnson Canyon Road in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Utah.
Yogi chose #2527, “as per random dot org.”, because that’s the way he rolls. I saw a lot of colorful storm clouds roll over mountains surrounding the Clark’s Dry Lakebed camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
Diane and Nigel chose #2510. An eastern view across Grand Canyon they could have seen while visiting
Jeff chose #27, “as we are preparing to depart for San Felipe’s 27th annual Shrimp Festival.” A little older than that, from March 26, 1955, my first birthday.
Rita chose #7435. This is a peek through the door of renovated 1958 Rocket Trailer you can rent as an B&B in Joshua Tree, California from a friend who owns Buzzards Roost.
Tredeuce chose #7379. Predawn and barely any light as this Red Hartebeest moved through the bush in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.
Jodee and Bill chose #625. Cormorants whitewash a rock, could be anywhere. However, this group of poopy birds where hanging out near the Whaling Museum in Hermanus, South Africa. And I was hanging out there on my birthday, where I bought rock during my first visit in 2010.
Sue chose #4594, “an old anniversary with an old friend.” The Vishnu Temple feels like an old friend even when it can’t be seen, the way it is with old friends. Grand Canyon offers some dramatic views, even wrapped in clouds.
Sallie and Bill chose #124, “because that’s the date we head to Florida, our next trip.” How about this shot from 1992, because that’s the date I became a Ranger. This waterfall was in Clearwater Valley, part of the blast zone around Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument.
Mary Jo chose #1047, “the current time.” This is an old time movie set that is falling apart in southern Utah.
My choice from trees planted around my PT castle, the color patterns look like batik to me. I have no idea what the tree is.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Gotta love that 1st birthday photo. We had that same paneling in suburban Detroit.
Let’s go with 179 for next week, the remaining distance this morning to our winter home; full circle on what was our most traveled year yet.
Almost home. #179 for next week.
Love this week’s collection! Favorites are tied: Grand Canyon and the birthday. Number 2109 for next week, please. Happy healing!
Thanks. #2109 for next week.
The photo of the clouds covering Grand Canyon was perfect on this Day of the Dead to honor my friend who passed in 2013. So let’s pick 2013 for next week.
Like a cover across the day, it was a good match. #2013 for next week.
Did you ever get back to Snake Gulch to see more of the petroglyphs that you wanted to see? I took a look at your Snake Gulch photos.
No, because the next time I was there the cheat grass was so bad I ended up turning around at the first site and throwing away the hiking boots that had cheat grass lodged inside to the toes.
To Kute! Baby Gaelyn.
Yes, what tree are those leaves from. I will have to pull my volumes on trees. Trees of the World. North American Trees. Hikers Guide to Flora & Fauna and on and on….. Oop’s Their all packed waiting patiently for the new library/studio to be built.
Next weeks numbers later. My brain doesn’t seem to want to process, reliably, prime numbers this AM.
I don’t know landscaping plants and can’t reach the field guides right now. Books are heavy.
Landscape plants …hmm.
Yes, books are heavy and need a heavy duty box when packed. A 12″×12″×16″ box packed tightly full of books weighs between 50 to 60 pounds. I just put over 100 bicep builders in storage.
Fire danger has seriously escalated this week in SW Oregon. 6 local fires this week. One still not contained. Most of our fire crews and equipment are down in California.
8389 for next Friday.
I can barely pick up one book right now.
Be safe.
#8389 for next week.
I love them all, but the rocks are amazing. #1549 <= Hubby's turning 70 Nov. 15th!
Thanks. I do love rock. #1549 for next week.
I do, too. My daughter has her M.Sc. in hydrogeology. We call her rock girl!

I like all your photos and am amazed at the thousands of images you have.
Thanks. I hardly ever delete an image.
And 5354 on random dot org cuz I am still rolling that way.
#5354 for next week.
Love the Fall leaves — perfect colors for the season …. and enjoyed that our picture is from the Pacific Northwest — our true home! (Did not know Mt St Helens was your first Ranger posting … that is fun to learn.). Enjoyed all your remarkable collection! If I’m not too late for next week I will take 1957. Our wedding anniversary (of that year) is coming up this month.
Thanks. Another cool fact about my first Ranger position, my first boss there is my boss at Bryce. #1957 for next week.
