I never thought I’d be settling in Cedar City Utah, yet all conveniences are here and so is physical therapy (PT).
Under normal circumstances without two healing wrists I would have been moved with everything battened down in the 5th-wheel with slides in in a matter of hours instead of days. Yet I had plenty of time until realizing night time lows would drop to teen° for several nights before I was scheduled to leave the 8000 foot Bryce Canyon National. So I backed up my departure date by two days and with the generous help of a friend, Jen, moved the last stuff into the camper and packed it away.
Sierra was honestly the last move and she may have been worried what with watching us go in and out of the 5er all day. Plugged in with heat, we slept the night in the tiny house. In the morning, Jen and husband Todd came over and he drove my truck the 1 1/2 hours to Cedar City following Jen with me as a passenger. Saved me from the long curvy drive in my wrist braces.
First stop, surgeon’s office for x-rays that look good and referral for PT, which is right across the hall. And only two blocks from the next stop, KOA, home sweet home for a month. With me guiding and setting leveling blocks, Todd parked the truck and I plugged in to electricity. Much needed for the next couple 20° nights. Because I’m parked next to the dog run, Sierra and I are entertained by the variety of breeds.
Then we were on our way to drop donations at Deseret Industries Thrift Store where I bought a pair of size 10 jeans as the 12s are falling off. Next stop, broken denture tooth repaired followed by a few groceries and back to my new temporary home, exhausted. And that’s pretty much where I stayed for the next three days with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s. I also took the wrist braces off for most of the day. I don’t have a lot of motion in my wrists but am able to do more every day.
I finished formatting and ordered the 2020 calendar. Still taking orders.
I’ve actually taken a few photos with the small camera and hoped to shoot full moon rise from the KOA. There is a low ridge across Main Street to the east but it was almost past my bedtime when the moon would crest so I took advantage of the few clouds that showed color for sunset over the condos and missed the moon.
Tuesday I walked 15 minutes to PT. The therapist was happy with my progress so far, measured my mobility, and set me to exercises trying to bend the wrists all directions. Backwards is the most limited. I’ll do these exercises at home three times a day. Plus squeeze a chunk of silly putty to strengthen my hands and forearms.
Because it was a pleasant 70° afternoon I walked about six blocks for a burger and fries, don’t recommend Brad’s. On the return I stopped at the Cedar City visitor center adjacent to the Frontier Homestead State Park Museum that I’ll have to return to earlier in the day. I think I’ll be able to stay busy in Cedar City Utah for a month.
Kudos to Jen and Todd for being there for you, Gaelyn. Hope your wrists continue to improve each day. 😊
Not sure I could have gotten here without their help. Thanks, PT is already making an improvement.
How wonderful to have help. You are making progress. Keep it up!
I read “20° nights,” not so bad, and had to remember that you are in F. not C.!!! Gosh.
I couldn’t have made this move without help. Woke to above freezing this morning. 🙂
Welcome to Cedar City and making the adjustment to big city life. Good to have friends able to help with the move. With the PT you’ll be making the next move yourself.
Yea, CC will do for a month. I look forward to driving away.
Hi Gaelyn – There is a great bike path/walking path that runs East from Cedar City. I believe it runs near the Utah 14 road. We found it when walking Reba in the Winter! Hope you can find it.
Thanks. Have seen several trails on the map. I’d rather not move the truck camper to get to them.
Glad all is heading in the right direction. Love the sky shots. Keep well Diane. P.S.Nigel picked something upon the plane and has a heavy dose of flu!!!! He feels s*** hope it soon passes over.
Thanks. Sorry to hear Nigel isn’t feeling well.
Hi Gaelyn – glad you are moved into your temporary space and doing your PT. That will probably take a lot of energy, but worth it of course. I was looking at your cute photo of Sierra and thinking how nice it is that you two have each other now. Have you ever heard of the young Instagram couple Bound for Nowhere? They go all over the place and have their cat with them. They take her for walks on a leash. The girl is very into photography like you. Anyway, glad you’re doing so well. Leslie
Thanks. I have more motion already. I don’t really do instagram. Sierra will wear a harness but just flops on the ground when the leash is attached.
One hurdle made. Some earned relief.
Do you have any idea of where you might be headed for your over – winter resting spot.
Cheers!
I was a little nervous about PT but already have more mobility. Not sure where I’ll be for winter other than south where it’s warmer.
Southern AZ is getting so built up my friends and family are finding it harder to find over winter places there. Some have shared spots they own. I prefer boondocking and rough camping.
My winter project is taking an old early square style 70’s 18-ft travel trailer and taking it completely apart and rebuilding it in the ‘Canned Ham’ style with modern upgrades and insulation!
When you see how many motorhomes are on I-5 headed south this time of year, you have to wonder if the SW can handle all the units. Too many Snowbirds, to few developed warm spots.
Happy landings for your winter camp.
Does seem like word is out about southern AZ but I hope to still find some desert gems to hide in. Sounds like a fun project. Hope you’ll share some pics along the way.
Hi Gaelyn, glad to hear progress with your wrists is good I like that you think positive which makes all the difference to a speedy recovery. Just the fact you have friends who are helping is a blessing. Take care.
Thanks. I try to be positive, but there are times…
Sounds like you are slowly making progress. It sounds exhausting.
Glad you had somebody to drive you, people like that are great.
Very slowly. Doesn’t take much to wear me out.
Good to see you without a brace and squeezing the silly putty. Hope your PT gets you back to full use real soon. Nice that you are so close to the doctor and PT. It’s great that you had some kind friends to help you with the move.
I squeeze that putty almost all day long. Still have almost no backward wrist movement.
Glad to read the progress being made. Sounds like Cedar City is going to be good place to stay while rehabilitation is taking place.
Thanks. Cedar City is working but I’m really looking forward to the Sonoran desert.
