It’s that time of year when my summer Ranger job is over, the big 5th-wheel goes into storage, and Sierra and I will be moving into my tiny house. The truck camper is adequate for living on the road as a solo woman.
Thankfully I didn’t unpack a lot of decorative chachkies this spring. Under the current circumstances with two broken wrists I’ve needed help packing everything. Saturday morning a packing party occurred with four helpers and a lot got done in the 5th-wheel. I mostly directed what goes where. After a couple hours I was exhausted and ready for a nap. Hard to move food until the last minute.
Surprisingly, other than the food and clothes, there isn’t that much else. Computer, phone, and camera stuff is about all. Sure tells me I have way too much stuff in the 5th-wheel that I really don’t need. One of these years I’ll need to have a yard sale. Guess all I need is a yard. I do make thrift store donations every time I move locations.
Monday and Tuesday out of town friends will help with a few more things to move. Plus go check out the park.
Wednesday morning I have a doctor appointment with my surgeon in Cedar City. Guess that will include x-rays to see how the healing is going. Hopefully I’ll be referred for Physical Therapy, a walk across the hall, and set up appointments. In the afternoon I have an appointment to get my chipped denture tooth repaired. Then back up to Bryce for a bloody cold night.
The 5th-wheel will be moved and put in nearby storage Thursday afternoon. And that night Sierra and I will start our tiny house adventure parked in a friends driveway in Tropic.
Friday we’ll move to the KOA in Cedar City.
Then I’ll get the calendar formatted, printed, and shipped. I’m still open for orders.

Hi Gaelyn, Well you need a good rest so take advantage of it.. I hope your wrists are healing well so that you can get back into your routine. You are such an organized person I am sure it won’t take long. But don’t overdo it will you Take your time. Wishing you all the very best of comfort in your new home too.
Thanks. I am both excited and scared about PT, but I want my mobility back.
Hey, Gaelyn, I don’t have a paypal account and don’t want one. Mine was hacked twice. Can you accept money directly to you bank via your email through Zelle? That is how I get money to people most often. I took of the facebook pay because it didn’t seem very secure. Let me know. oops…should have been private message, but you know I am wishing you well and glad to see you had help moving into your smaller home. Sierra will love it, she can be closer to you. Jeremy always liked going in the motorhome because he never had to look far to find us.
Sierra doesn’t seem to mind the smaller space. I’ll get back to you on Zelle.
Good luck with the healing process and travelling in your tiny home.
Thanks.
Best of luck with packing, moving and healing. Will send you a post card to Bryce address. Hugs D & N
Thanks. Am seeing Mary and Micheal today. Have an awesome trip.
The tiny house is more mobile, hope PT has you back on the road soon.
Thanks. Yes it is, much easier to handle alone.
Camper memories.
I lived in my little 8-1/2_ft. camper for most of 8+ years traveling through the seven western states doing contract Field Engineering for a NW company. I had a generous per diem so I could have stayed in hotels/motels, but I essentially hate those facilities. Non-smoker room… BS. Cleanliness… not to my minimum standards, and other issues.
By staying in my camper, I got to see a lot of the backcountry of those seven western states. From swimming and snorkeling in the warm ocean waters of SoCal, to backcountry adventure hikes in Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Washington.
From opening the camper door in the morning to pine or desert fresh air, to all the wonderful scenery seen through my truck windshield and on the trail.
It is quite revealing how little we can effectively get by without, traveling solo.
Couple of caveats. Campers endure(?) A lot of road shake and this effects the roof integrity so resealing is often needed. The propane gas lines can become loose so need to be checked before using appliances.
Cold winds can strip a lot of heat from a camper, so a site protected from the wind should be found. That said, I have comfortably spent days in my camper in winter conditions. One morning at north Lake Tahoe, I opened the door to see snow up to the door. Luckily, I had a shovel, and only had about 100-ft to a plowed road and 4-WD. Unfortunately, it was a steep up hill climb, so despite 4-WD, I had to chain up all 4-wheels.
Campers spell adventure in big pregnant letters.
Hoping you have many new adventures in the coming months in your camper, Gaelyn, until next Spring finds you back at Bryce.
I love my little camper and lived in it for long periods of time. If it wasn’t for Sierra needing heat and AC at certain times I’d stay in it full time. Every time I sit at the dinette I think about how I’m sitting in the back of my truck with all the conveniences I need.
All the best geogypsy! I do my own calendars, otherwise I would buy yours.
I’ll never understand the camper thing, but you thrive on it and that is important.
Take care!
Thanks. I do love my mobile lifestyle but understand it’s not for everybody.
Thinking of you and hope the appointment Monday was good news. Good luck with the PT.
Thanks. X-rays look good. Start PT Tuesday. Moved to Cedar City KOA today.
Resilience is what comes to mind when I think of you. You are amazing. I hope that you can get started on PT and recovery soon.
Thanks, but you might think differently if a fly on my wall. Start a month of PT on Tuesday.
I’ve found PT to be the best medicine everytime I’ve done it. Bill had both knees replaced at the same time and with great PT was off the walker with no cane in two weeks! Hope yours is quick with minimal pain and that you’ll be on the road to new adventures soon. So happy to see you’ll be back at Bryce next year!
Just being out of the braces four days feels better and more mobility.
