This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including badlands, a bad sea, badass rocks, and beauty all around.
Gilda chose #3000, “the miles we have done on this trip to Norway…so far.” I could see a long ways, although not 3000 miles, across the badlands to the Salton Sea from Fonts Point in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.
Pat chose #5662, “the distance in miles from Belgrade to Seattle, where I’ll be headed August 10.” Again not that many miles and from the opposite side of the Salton Sea as above, I think taken through the camper window, from Corvina Beach.
TreDeuce chose #4347. South African Spider Lily seen at St George’s Park when friend Jonker toured me around his home town Port Elizabeth in 2013.
Jo chose #2628, “a reservation for my Bunker accommodation received this minute.” I took advice to drive Swartberg Pass from an accommodation near Oudtshoorn, a ways southwest of her South African home. Marvelous views and this old toll-house too. One of many times I took side trips to drive in the mountains.
Jim and Diana chose #601, “the time yesterday evening that SpaceX launched their latest rocket.” Don’t be launching any rockets from Buckskin Gulch slot canyon, or likely seeing them overhead either. From my first time hiking this slot, but not my last. It is an ‘other worldly’ experience.
Diane and Nigel chose #2607. From New Year’s Day 2015 my camp view of the Coyote and Santa Rosa Mountains in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.
Rita chose #3598. While living in southern Utah I saw many rabbits hanging around the Crazy Horse RV Park in Kanab, Utah during Spring of 2016.
Lisa chose #9393. A Grand Canyon view northeast from the Ken Patrick Trail on the North Rim.
Jeff chose #2625, “the street address in Dayton of Fran’s childhood home where we’ll be for a couple weeks.” Another shot driving Swartberg Pass same day as above. No street address.
Sallie and Bill chose #80 for somebody’s birthday this week. Their present is this stormy view taken in August 2005 leaving a rock & mineral show in Creed, Colorado.
My choice from last week when storms mostly teased and dropped little rain. I had hoped for a little more sunset color that night looking across the town of Tropic in the valley to the distant Aquarius Plateau from Bryce Canyon National Park.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Nature still amazes me with its infinite variety.
Shot over Tropic town pulls one out and over like a soaring eagle.
4951 for next week, please.
Just can’t live without nature. #4951 for next week.
Nature… It is still intrinsic and essential for some. We slake our need for and find solace with our immersion in the primal elements of our origins.
There are times when in the deep of it… away from the intruding cacophony of human activity, that I just want to sit on the ground, lean my head against a tree or a big rock, let my hands rest on earths carpet, shut my eyes to the visual noise, breath deeply natures earthly fragrance, and let the vibrant harmonic sounds of Earth & Nature sooth my soul until I just melt into the unfathomable essence of it all. A profound bliss found, of a fervent need.
That all sounds just perfect to me.
What a super set of photos, ‘bad’ or otherwise 🙂 Not one we do not like, but for us the spider lily has to be a favourite, We had a whole bed of them in one house we lived in and I have tried to get them to grow in other places since but no joy. 208 for next week please. Have a wonderful weekend. Diane and Nigel
Thanks. Those lilies are spectacular. I believe they were growing in or almost in a pond. #208 for next week.
Jim and Diana’s are my favourite this time. It must have been amazing to hike there. Another one for my list. For next week can I have 3456?
Every slot canyon I’ve hiked is amazing. Definitely put on your list. #3456 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, I love the images of your drive up the Swartberg Pass,. Grant and I rode many passes on our bike trips around South Africa and neighboring countries. I’m off on a conference on Monday through Wednesday. The number for next week is 3500. Have a great day. Jo

Wonderful, as always.
#0816 for next week!
Thank you. #0816 for next week.
Always great photos! I sure miss the desert – there’s no mosquitos! Bet you could guess Font’s Point will always be special.
Next week I’d like 5652 the number of miles driven thus far on Road Trip 2019.
Thanks Jeff. I don’t miss those midwest mosquitos. I remember about Font’s Point. #5652 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, My goodness Friday already.Time passes too quickly these days. Love the photo from last week your choice, Aquarium Plateau at Bryce Canyon National Park. My favourite for this week is the Grand Canyon View from Ken Patrick Trail No 6399 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend.
Time does seem to pass way too quickly. #6399 for next week.
I especially love your first and last photos. My number for next week is 867, the miles we will be driving tomorrow to get back home on our vacation this week.
Thanks. Your vacation has been way to short, but looks like you’ve been having fun. #867 for next week. Safe drive.
Thanks for the Salton Sea. Was there years ago… Put me down for next week for #4444. Absolutely no reason…
Salton Sea can be fantastic, if the wind isn’t blowing the wrong way. Hope you got lucky. #4444 for next week.
Bill thanks you for the lovely stormy picture for his big 8-0 BD! He chooses 8322 for next week. We have great memories of time spent around Salton Sea and the desert …so I loved those. Wish we’d hiked that slot canyon when we were young enough to do it…beautiful!
Glad Bill liked his BD present. #8322 for next week.
