This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including mostly Autumn travels in the Southwest.
Gilda chose #1981, “the year I made my escape to go and live in the big city.” Being a country gal, I can only imagine escaping the big city. I’d run to the wide open meadows surrounded by forest and be glad to catch a patch of golden aspen like this seen in September 2011 on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Diane and Nigel chose #1406. They do love flowers but probably don’t want to see thistle in their garden. In September 2009 this huge thistle had plenty of water from Cliff Spring on the North Rim Grand Canyon. A trail I don’t think we walked when they visited.
Jim and Diana chose #5294, “the current mileage on the new Ford…which is pulling the fifth wheel like a champ.” I think these might both be Chevrolets and certainly won’t pull a fifth wheel. I frequently saw classic cars at Grand Canyon National Park, these in September 2016.
Jeff chose #8314, “the elevation of Monitor Pass.” The Zion peaks in the distance could be near that height, however the abandoned historic town of Grafton where this restored building is only just over 3600 feet in elevation. Taken August 2015.
Yogi chose #8546. The Colorado River upstream from Navajo Bridge September 2014 and those small dots on the water in the center is four rafts. They be heading downstream for a multiple day adventure.
Rita chose #8788. Looking up in the Desert View Watchtower on the South Rim Grand Canyon during my 2015 March birthday visit.
Lisa chose #4180, “the amount of water flowing through the Arkansas River near Salida, CO, about twice the normal flows!” The Green River in Utah averages 6121 cubic feet per second, although not seen it is in this photo taken the last day of a too-short vacation October 1, 2015 driving across the Green River Desert.
Jennifer chose #114. Being she’s part of a family who likes rocks this shot taken when I worked at Oregon Caves during September 2007 might appeal to her. The black arrow is historic and points to an exit partway through the cave tour.
Jodee and Bill chose #8411. The lovely contrast of fall aspen and evergreens on the Kaibab National Forest during September 2007.
My choice is another shot of the hoodoos from the last snowfall at Bryce Canyon. Prediction for possible snow here on Saturday. Happy first day of Summer!
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Good morning Gaelyn, I hope all is well with you and you are enjoying your new job. As always this weeks photos are Brilliant I just love the one of the hoodoos at Bryce Canyon but my favourite is Colorado River from Navajo Bridge. I think we have seen them before but I never tire at anything that is to do with the Canyon.. No 9899 for next week please. Have a good weekend.
Thanks Rita. I’ve stopped so many times on Navajo Bridge there are lots of shots in the archives. #9899 for next week.
Beautiful photos today, Gaelyn. Happy Solstice to you!!
Thanks Sue. Happy Solstice to you also. Doesn’t feel like summer here yet.
I make viewing your photos a habit. Love your stories, too. #8888 next week. Thank you.
Thank you. I appreciate you comment and viewing. #8888 for next week.
56′ Ford 2-Dr V8. And a 67′ first year Rally Sport Camaro.
Add ‘Fairlane 500′ to the Ford.
Spent a lot of time under the hood of 56′, and bought a beautiful hardtop in Sonora, California in 1963 and drove to Frisco, then all the way up hwy. 1/101 to Crescent City then home to Puyallup, Washington.
And an uncle had a 56’ country Sedan (wagon) that he let us take on dump runs once a month. It was a real hot rod with the Thunderbird engine and loud dual exhausts. A day always looked forward to by a couple of 16-year olds.
Thanks for the car ID. I don’t know one from another. I drive a truck. But in high school I had a 1968 Mercury Cyclone Cobra Jet with a 428, the fast girl car at the school. My Dad bought it for me and I think it fulfilled one of his muscle car dreams.
I just sold a 66′ Comet ‘Caliente’ convertible with only 66,000 miles on it. It has the 390″
The Cobra Jet was one of the faster Muscle cars, but now days an Accord or even the new hot Civic will runaway from it.
The Cobra Jet is worth about $50-$75,000 these days. It was a rare car back in the day, and even rarer now.
The only car in high school that could beat my Cobra Jet was the Shelby. Wish I still owned that car.
I love thistles as long as they are not in our garden, they are very pretty. We love the shot of the Colorado river but I agree, the favourite has to be the hoodoos with snow, We cannot believe that you are still expecting more snow, having said that, we did turn on the heating for a few hours today to take the chill off the house,. Unheard of in June!!!
2106 for next week please. Have a good weekend, Diane and Nigel
I’m happy to say the prediction has been changed to rain, so glad as I’m more than ready for summer, or at least spring. I am still running heat in the evening and morning. #2106 for next week.
Another great selection of photos, the one of Bryce hoodoos is stunning. I love landscape photography and you do have some amazing landscapes to photograph there at Bryce. For next week can I have 80, my fathers age 😄
Thanks. I love this Bryce, and surrounding area, landscape but it isn’t easy to photograph. #80 for next week.
An interesting shot to me especially was the Green River Desert photo. I think the Arkansas River in Tulsa right now is flowing about 60,000 cubic feet per second and at the height of the flooding was 275,000. Which is a lot. Downstream at Fort Smith, Arkansas I think it went over 600,000. Water is great thing when you don’t get too much of it.
Thanks again for a great set of diverse images. I look forward to seeing what you got to show us every week.
my number for next week is 5763.
Have a great weekend!!
That’s a lot of water flow. Some of the images I saw of that flooding were scary indeed. #5763 for next week.
Good shots, all. I missed giving a number last week because I was out of town, so this coming week I will choose number 2106, which was the day and month date yesterday, as well as the Solstice and my mother’s (RIP) birthday.
Thanks. My Mom’s birthday also (RIP). #2106 for next week.
Love that 60’s Camaro. Let’s do 6159 for next week, as I keep racking up the miles.
I always wanted a ’68 Camaro. #6159 for next week.
The only difference between a 67′ Camaro and a 68′, is Wing windows.
Apologies. I’ve been MIA but back again. My favourite is the pic of the Chevrolets. My number for next week is 1908 – an order number in one of the projects keeping me busy. Great weekend to you. Jo
Hope you’ve been happily too busy to blog. #1908 for next week.
We love fall in the Kaibab – thanks for taking me back! We really have to get back and see the desert tower.
#8401 for next week please. My digital clock is my “randomizer” – I use the backwards time to select my number each week 🙂
I’m going to have to hunt for more aspen around here. Did see a couple youngsters just over the rim. I love how you pick your number, so 8401 it will be for next week.
Here is a random number for next week_ 5711
#5711 for next week.
I love them all! But the rock rock!!! #1226 next week, for my birthday, Dec. 26th.
Thanks. I thought you’d like the rock. #1226 for next week.
