This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including South African rock and water, Southwestern US rock, and a few critters.
Yogi chose #1100. View into Death Valley from the mouth of Natural Bridge Canyon where I went on a Ranger lead geology talk.
Jeff chose #8020, “the number my Padres reached yesterday to set the record for the longest futile streak of pitching a no-hitter.” Wonder if a 5000 foot view from the South Rim to where Pipe Creek flows into the Colorado River would be considered a “no-hitter”?
Gilda chose #2905, “the day we are catching our ferry back to England.” I only saw the other kind of “fairy” along this amazing drive of twisted rock over the Swartberg Pass in South Africa.
Rita chose #6339. A slightly fuzzy sunset with crashing waves on the rocky shores of the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Sue chose #2106, “The house I lived in from 1952 until 1959.” I’m not sure White Pocket has an address, other than GPS coordinates which I don’t know. This from my first visit with Bill in 2015.
Jim and Diana chose #9115, “for the elevation of Rainbow Point” in Bryce Canyon National Park where they recently visited me. In a different park, the waters flowed strong below Augrabies Falls in South Africa.
TreDeuce chose #1872, “the year Yellowstone National Park was created. Our first national park, and considered to be the first national park in the world…” and the idea spread. The uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is in South Africa was designated in 1997 and in 2000 was declared a World Heritage Site. I hiked past the Eye of the Needle in March, 2010 and would happily return.
Jo chose #1905, the date of her second youngest grandchild’s fifth birthday and she went to visit. Although she probably drove her new car, it would have been nice to fly like this Raven could. Seen by my truck on the North Rim Grand Canyon Fall 2011.
Sallie and Bill chose #526, for next Sunday’s date when they depart Florida. This window display of old cameras has nothing to do with Florida. I spot them in a store window in the gold mining town of Pilgrims Rest in South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #2005. From the same Drakensberg hike as above on the way back the following day.
Jennifer chose #7921. This collared lioness was laying on the shoulder of the road and I couldn’t get her all in the frame, at Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.
Unlike the bigger kitty above, Sierra isn’t wearing a collar as she settles in to life in the 5th-wheel. The dirty look could be because she hasn’t been outside in a month.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Oh how I love the power of a free-flowing river like that. Let’s do 1908 for next week. That was the last year the Colorado River flowed unimpeded from LaPoudre Pass all the way to the Gulf of California.
Good thing as you seem to have gotten that waterfall a couple times lately. I’ll bet the Colorado roared once too. 🙁 #1908 for next week.
So many great memories and photos here. For next week can I choose 103…The number of days we have been on the road.
Thank you. I do love how the photos evoke a memory. #103 for next week.
Spectacular photos again this week, you just keep churning them out!! My number for next week is 1030 because it is 10:30 am as I write this.
Thanks. #1030 for next week.
My favorite was the White Pocket photo. I went to the link to see the whole story and the pictures were amazing. I would like to play along and pick 2110 just because it is close to the number in this post, and maybe you’ll pick another one of those gorgeous pictures you posted that day!
Thanks. White Pocket is an otherworldly place. Glad you liked the pics and story. So we’ll see what #2110 brings for next week.
Great photos today, as always, but I really hit the jackpot with 2106. I had never heard nor read about White Pocket, and after reading your blog about it, am really intrigued. Might actually be able to do that one someday, with a 4×4 and maps, and not have to get a permit! Thanks, Gaelyn.
Thanks. White Pocket is amazing. I’d like to camp out there to shoot sunset and sunrise.
Hi Gaelyn glad that you are enjoying your new job. Fantastic photo’s as always here. Love the one of the Lioness sitting in the road. My favourite for this week is Swartberg Pass, South Africa.Would like No 7923 for next week. Thanks. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Rita. I really would like to return to South Africa both for the wildlife and scenery. #7923 for next week.
oh, the photo of Sierra is my absolute favorite. My car is such a treat and I have traveled all over in it! My number for next week is 2070. Have a great week. Jo
Sierra is photogenic, sometimes. But you know how that is. So glad you like the new car. #2070 for next week.
I especially like the green Yellowstone one. Makes me think people like Moss Man from Masters of the Universe would live there, haha.
Ooops. Forgot a number: 4492. That’s a pin code, but you’ll never know which one, haha.
#4492 for you, and me too if I ever find your wallet. 😉
I love them. Por neglected Sierra! Our cats have the funniest similar expressions. #5803
Thanks. These kitties really have expressive faces. #5803 for next week.
I love all the water and intense greens of South Africa. How lucky for all of us that you spent so much time there with your camera!!
#1311 for next week please.
Thanks. You are certainly in a lush green environment right now. #1311 for this week.
Superb set of photos and great memories of the Drakensberg and getting lost there !! Thankfully it did not get as far as a search party having to find us. Time to take Sierra on a walk in her harness.
Arrived home to grass knee high, and weeds even higher, and too wet to get out there and do anything about it. Hopefully the weather will change on Wednesday. Not sure when I will ever have time to do my own blog!
2705 for next week please, Keep well Diane and Nigel.
Sierra slipped out the door two days ago and after a short sniff around under the 5th-wheel was happy to go back inside on her own. Hope your weather improves so you can get out in the yard. #2705 for this week.
1887 for next week, Gaelyn.
On May 28th 1887, president Jackson signed the ‘Hayes Act’ into law. This action resulted in the loss of millions of acres of American Indian lands. If you have ever wondered why a non-Indian could own and still buy ‘titled’ lands on reservations, this is why. A compounding tragedy that still has lasting and unresolved effects to this very day.
Correction; Dawes Act.
Lost a whole comment?
Correction; Jackson signed the Act that created the reservation system. Cleveland signed the Act that essentially dissolved the reservation system resulting in the loss of more than 2/3rds of treaty lands.
OK, got the history lesson and the results suck. #1887 for this week.
