This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including a couple waterfalls, some animals, and Bryce Canyon.
Jodee and Bill chose #635. I am intrigued by the almost 1000 year old masonry work of the Ancestral Puebloans of the US Southwest. A good place to see examples is Wupatki National Monument just north of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Jim and Diana chose #200, “for the number of tree rings we had to count for our PhD level Bryce Canyon Junior Ranger book.” There’s a lot of learning behind earning that badge. Be glad you didn’t have to hike rim to rim to earn the Grand Canyon badge. Yet if you had, might have seen boats landing on the shore of the Colorado River near the mouth of Pipe Creek along the Bright Angel trail.
Diane and Nigel chose #1105 and are currently on holiday. So maybe a road trip shot is appropriate along State Route 89A following Echo Cliffs which they may remember seeing from Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim when they visited.
Jo chose #1505, “the day I collect my new-to-me car!” Always exciting to get a new car and hope she likes it. If she wasn’t in South Africa I’d recommend a drive to Marble View where I’ve frequently camped and enjoyed many a colorful sunset like this one from July 2010.
Rita chose #3950. I followed a trail to 39 Steps Waterfall (I didn’t count them) at the Arboretum in Hogsback, South Africa.
Gilda chose #1987, “The year I moved to the UK.” This road shot in the year 2011 would be in the fall when I’d be getting ready to move from the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Yogi chose #3206, “which is the number of the house we lived in in Albuquerque, eons ago.” Pretty sure you wouldn’t have seen elephants from there but maybe their cousins the woolly mammoth, truly eons ago. This elephant, however, was seen in Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa in 2013.
Jennifer chose #9341. The thundering waters of Augrabies Falls, South Africa from my 2014 visit.
Sallie and Bill chose #550. Back to Wupatki National Monument.
Jeff chose #107, “the cost in pesos for me to use the Tecate Toll Road.” At the current rate of exchange that’s $5.60USD and I’m sure this chubby chipmunk ate at least that much in bird seed over the Yarnell winter of 2011. You’ll have to look closely for the fuzzy tail.
My choice from Monday, a day off work, while touring around Bryce Canyon National park with friends, the view south from Swamp Canyon overlook revealed snow on the farthest end of the Paunsauguant Plateau.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hey I love the Elephant photo the best. I love all of them though. Number next week is 1100 which is the dollar cost for the average American family of the tariffs our President has imposed on imported goods.
Thanks. I can’t respond in a civil way to the why but give you #1100 for next week.
As you show on your 2014 blog there is a tremendous amount of energy at Augrabies Falls, very impressive. For next week I’d like 8020 the number my Padres reached yesterday to set the record for the longest futile streak of pitching a no-hitter. That’s 50 years 1 month and 9 days of ball games. Congrats Padres, at least you made it into the record books 🙂
I felt the thunder of Augrabies Falls. #8020 for next week.
Gaelyn, thank you for publishing my 1987 photo. Very appropriate considering the direction my life has taken since that move. I enjoyed all the photos and in particular your last one of Bryce Canyon…great place to work. For next week can I have 2905 the day we are catching our ferry back to England.
Thank you. I am truly enjoying Bryce so far. #2905 for next week. Safe journey.
I have to laugh at the way you segue from the comment of the requestor to the photo requested! 2) this is the first time I’ve seen a photo of the area where Pipe Creek comes into the CO River.
I try, makes it interesting. Commercial boat trips often stop at Pipe Creek to switch guests.
Glad you are settling into your new job Gaelyn love all these photo’s but my favourite is the beautiful Augrabies falls South Africa. I love waterfalls. No 6339 for next week please Take care and enjoy your weekend.
Thanks. Augrabies was flowing high when I visited and the thunderous roar could be felt. #6339 for next week.
You are such a wealth of great photos, Gaelyn, and it is always hard to pick a favorite. Do I choose a place I love, a technically inspiring photograph, a photo that makes me smile? Who knows. Today I’ll pick the elephant. And I will follow another lead and choose an address. 2106. The house I lived in from 1952 until 1959.
Thank you. You are very kind. I hope the elephant made you smile as it does me. #2106 for next week.
Love the raw power of that waterfall! Lets go with 9115 for the elevation of Rainbow Point (I think…correct the number, if I’m wrong 🙂
Was an amazing waterfall. You are right, so #9115 for next week.
1872, the year Yellowstone National Park was created. Our first national park, and considered to be the first national park in the world…and the universe?
OK, #1872 for our first national park even though there wasn’t a National Park Service yet. And I do believe it was the first in the world but won’t commit to the universe.
Like you, Gaelyn, I, too, as an architect/engineer, am “intrigued” by the indigenous vernacular architecture of the ancient world. From the spectacular constructs of Machu Picchu, to the mud cities of Yemen.
The SW has many examples of these ancient constructs which adds in great measure to the intrigue and mystique of the SW.
Hi Gaelyn, yes I did get my new-to-me-car! Great excitement as I’ve had car woes since Grant’s been gone. I’m always fascinated by your pictures of Augrabies Falls. We went there once (on the bike, of course) and it was hardly flowing!) My number for next week is 1905: today’s date on which my second youngest grandchild, Keren-Happuch’s fifth birthday! I’m going to see them all next week! Great day to you. Jo
It really is nice to have a mechanic around. #1905 for the the birthday child.
Awe inspiring collection … makes me realize we need a Southwest fix one of these times! Another trip instead this time though. And I loved that magnificent elephant too! 526 for next Sunday’s date which is our depart Florida day.
Thanks. Does seem like the SW could be on your way from FL to OR. #526 for this week.
Rubbish WiFi catch up next week. 2005 for then please. D and N
It happens. #2005 for this week.
Such an amazing portfolio you have! I’m enjoying your snow! 🙂 #7921
Thanks Jenn. So glad I have most of life’s photos digitized. Figures you’d like my snow. I’d gladly send it your way. 😉 #7921 for this week.
