This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including several similar rock formations from different parts of the world, and a few South African animals.
Lisa chose #3005. North Rim Grand Canyon views are accessible from several adjacent Kaibab National Forest gravel roads. This southern view is from Parissawampitts Point along the Rainbow Rim trail.
Diane and Nigel chose #405. They may remember this west view from Cape Royal overlook the end of the scenic drive. This was taken my first season working on the North Rim three days after opening in 2008. Before blogging.
Gilda chose #1988, “the year I met my husband.” This shot in 2010 was the year I met the shadow sultan on watch above camp after hiking into the Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa.
Jeff chose #1862, “the year the peasants of La Puebla defeated the French on Cinco de Mayo.” His choice is one of a four shot panorama, the year this peasant returned to South Africa for a second visit. This colorful sandstone looks much like the US desert SW. Called Mushroom Rock in Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
Yogi chose #8853, “which is our house number on the street.” No numbers, just large landscapes for wildlife seen in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa. Look closely for both animals here, predator and prey. Although the Springbok antelope might be a big large for the small Black-backed Jackal.
Jim and Diana chose #3234, “the miles I’ve put on the Ford since leaving Florida.” I know they’ve gone further than that by now as they are currently visiting Bryce Canyon National Park where we’ll be meeting for dinner tonight. However, that new Ford would need wings to see a Gray Heron like this one seen at Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa. And, sorry no JR badges there either.
Jennifer chose #3200. Some young Aspen trees survived at the edge of the Fuller Fire at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Jo chose #9000 in celebration of her MIL’s 90th birthday last week. I believe that sunsets are a universal gift so send off this Sonoran desert sky to South Africa where Jo lives.
Rita chose #1012. A through the windshield shot (please don’t lecture) of limestone ledges on the Kaibab Plateau supporting a Pinyon/Juniper woodland along SR89A northern Arizona.
Sallie and Bill chose #956. This rather fuzzy shot taken in 2009 looks northward to the lower layers of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah. In the distance and right out of sight is the top of the staircase where I currently am at Bryce Canyon National Park.
I haven’t gotten to the rim this week so this is from last week. Looks much the same right now with mixed rain, grapple, and snow.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
The aspens are so bright and fresh – looks like Spring!!
#635 for next week please.
I’d like to see some bright green leaves like that here for spring instead of all this white stuff. #635 for next week.
If only my Ford could fly! Let’s do 200 for next week, for the number of tree rings we had to count for our PhD level Bryce Canyon Junior Ranger book.
OK, #200. Just to let you know the Bryce Canyon Junior Ranger book is due for a new release next month, and it’s not so hard. Only BS level.
Thanks for the wonderful evening.
Another great set of photos and as always we love the shots of the Grand Canyon and yes our photo looks very familiar 😊 Looking forward to more photos and info on Bryce, thank goodness we got to see it so we know what it looks like. Love the last shot of the snowman. 1105 for next week please. We will be away for 10 days from 16th with no WiFi but will try to catch up on our return. Enjoy the rest of the weekend Diane and Nigel
Thanks. I haven’t been to the rim here in a week. Hopefully today, on my day off. Enjoy your journey. #1105 for next week.
HI Gaelyn, I loved the Cape Royal overlook and the young aspens always catch my eye! I’ve just returned tfrom MIL’s 90th birthday party at the retirement centre! Great success. I am staying in my old house with Angus Amanda and three of our grands in Marquard. My number for next week is 1505: the day I collect my new-to-me car! Jo
So glad the birthday part was a success. Congrats on the new car, so #1505 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Love the shots of the Grand Canyon” of course” but I also like that lovely photo of the Sonoran desert sky, in fact it’s my favourite. No 3950 for next week please. Have a wonderful weekend.
I know you enjoy seeing the canyon but you just can’t go wrong with a colorful sunset. #3950 for next week.
The Drakensburg Mountains look like quite a hard hike. I would love to visit SA one day. For next Friday can I have 1987 please? The year I moved to the UK😄
The Drakensburg hike was actually pretty gentle. I highly recommend visiting SA. #1987 for next week.
I love the non-lecturing shot. Reminds me so much of that area.
Next week is 3206, which is the number of the house we lived in in Albuquerque, eons agao.
Thanks. I do take a lot of pics while driving. #3206 for this week.
I love them! The canyons are spectacular. The aspens look so pretty! #9341 for next week!
I think your header is my favourite!
Thanks Jenn. I agree about the current header. Going to have to change it to Bryce soon.
Loving them all, and tickled to have “ours” show a bit of your current “front yard”….. yay! 550 next week?
Thanks. There will be more Bryce shots soon. #550 for this week.
I’ve been off-the-grid for he past week+ with no time to review nor discover a favorite. Now, with access, I can see they is no favorite photo all are just awesome!
For next week I’d like 107 – the cost in pesos for me to use the Tecate Toll Road.
Thanks. Lucky you, at the beach and off the grid. #107 for this week.
