This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including a variety of hooved animals, some bones and a snowed in kitty.
Diane and Nigel chose #1502, one of four in a panorama. Cape Royal overlook is one of my favorite North Rim locations for sunset at Grand Canyon. Lovely when the last light shines on Wotan’s Throne.
Jo chose #66, “the age I turned on Wednesday.” Happy belated birthday from the summer of 1992 when I worked at Mount St Helens. Twelve years after the volcanic eruption life grew among the blown down trees along Meta Lake.
Rita chose #8779. Hiked this dry wash into a nameless canyon off the Whitehouse Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument southern Utah.
Lisa chose #3445. Saw more than birds from the Mfazana bird hide at Cape Vidal iSimangaliso Wetland Park in South Africa. The Duikers along the shore are small antelopes.
Jennifer chose #1923. A soft golden sunrise over the Indian Ocean at Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
George chose #0214. Note the bit of snow in my truck parked in front of the rental cabins before the North Rim was open in April 2015.
Jeff chose #1094, “to represent the record setting 10.94 inches of rain Palomar Mountain received in a 48 hour period.” Looks like about 10.94 zebras crossing the road in Kruger National Park, South Africa. This was my first time visiting the park in 2010 and we were rushing to return to camp before the gates closed at sunset.
Kathy chose #1121. This is how the day began from the previous photo at sunrise seeing Waterbucks.
Yogi chose #1612. Some kind of flower head gone to seed at the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Jodee and Bill chose #4120, one of two in a panorama. Yes, those are bones, from an excavation site at Fossil Park in Langebann South Africa.
Sallie and Bill chose 3. Meet Aces, my 18-year old Arabian taken in Wenatchee, Washington in 1987. My husband had a big Palamino and my step-son a one-year old Paint.
Gail chose #5147. Mom and a young Waterbuck, another antelope seen in Kruger National Park.
Mary Jo chose #520, “the month and year I hope to retire and get on the road!” I hope you’ll have the kind of rig needed to take the House Rock Valley Road seen here headed south from my camp at sunset in southern Utah. The next day I drove further and hiked Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch.
My choice this week titled, She asked to go out. But then demanded to come back in. Snow began about 10pm Wednesday and continued through Thursday dropping an unusual 16 inches in Yarnell. It’s suppose to continue through Friday. I barely got farther past the door than Sierra and then only to hang the hummingbird feeder. The couple of Anna’s hummingbirds perched nearby and ate all day.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Off couourses my favorite is your furry friend at the door asking tto come in!
I think that shot of Sierra went viral yesterday on Facebook. #1602 for next week.
Oops. I had customers in the shop and posted the comment too soon. My number for next week is 1602 which was Grant’s 68th birthday last weekend. Hugs Jo
It’s hard to pick a favorite this week, but your sunset pictures are always awe-inspiring. Your photos and stories are my favorite part of Friday morning coffee time. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to each week. #381 for next week, please!
Thanks. I look forward to seeing what pops up with you numbers. It’s hard to go wrong photographing sunsets. Sunrises too if I was awake for more of them. #381 for next week.
Love your Grand Canyon pics!!!!
Thanks. Maybe I’ll get more this summer.
They are amazing! All of them. Your poor kitty! Such a shock, I’m sure!!!! #9888
All of you are so inspiring! (ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
You are quite right that Sierra is just like our Annabelle. Annie is an obvious descendant from Norwegian Forest cats. I Googled them, and it’s true. However, as my hubby says, “Annie is a ‘summer’ Norwegian forest cat! She’s not fond of snow, despite the huge, thick coat. Does Sierra get mats, like Annie? I had to cut some out the other day! She wasn’t amused. She let me trim four of her front claws, then growled when I began the other paw. She’s improving!
Yes, Sierra does occasionally get mats, or as I call them dreads. I can usually brush them out. Last year around this time Berta had her shaved because they were so bad. Talk about a funny looking cat. I hope not to do that ever again.
Thanks. Unlike your old Daisy, Sierra doesn’t go play in the snow. #9888 for next week.
pretty sure my favorite is “she asked to go out”. Having been a cat owner for a zillion years, I know that look well. As always, your photos are wonderful, and it is impossible to pick a true favorite if choosing just from the photo, so I reverted to how I felt when looking at the photo. This one made me smile. Hope you are enjoying your snow, Gaelyn. We are enjoying Florida at the moment, and it seems we picked a good time to be here.
Thanks. She gave me that ‘look’ again this morning like she’d forgotten that white stuff was out there. I am not a person for cold and snow, but have to admit it is pretty, through the windows. Keep enjoying those FL summer temps.
Always love your pictures but especially the look on Sierra’s Face Like “what is this stuff?” Precious
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
Thanks Rick. She gave me that look again this morning with even more snow behind her. It’s fun to look at, from indoors.
WOW ! Fantastic photo’s Gaelyn and what a lovely variety. Love the one of Sierra your cat, no wonder she wants to come in. My favourite this week is the Zebras crossing the road at Krugar National Park. No 5075 for next week please. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Rita. Sierra did the same thing this morning only more snow. #5075 for next week.
Ooops it is already Friday again, this wonderful weather we are having (20C today) has us busy in the garden, long may it last but I am sure it will not. We love our Panarama shots and so glad that we got to see the canyon and meet you as well. Sierra though just pips them at the post for our favourite.⛄
2202 for next week please. Keep warm and take care Diane and Nigel
If I had a garden, it would currently be buried under 20 inches of snow. That shot of Sierra has almost gone viral. #2202 for next week. Enjoy the spring weather.
Great bunch of photos. I love the first one of the canyon showing the flat rim on the other side of the canyon. Sierra wanting in is a hoot. I had a big old cat once, I never named her, shame on me. She went outside every day for hours and she didn’t care about the snow. Tough as nails she was. Died without a name, isn’t that sad?
My number for next week is 1949, for some reason that sounds good to me.
Thanks. I too once had a cat with no name. This cat came with a name, originally Sara and Berta renamed her Sierra. Maybe they have to earn a name. Or, really, they’re cats, and probably don’t care. #1949 for next week.
Wow AZ sure has got a lot of snow this year. My brother says it is the coldest winter he has ever experienced there. The long range forecast for the SW, published last June by a weather scientist I follow from the University of Washington(state) has been spot on.
Missed my 1907? _ E ‘Lee’ Miller
Oops, guess I missed your number last week so will try for #1907 this week.
In two days Yarnell got 20 inches of snow and this week it’s heading to the high 50s. Go figure.
Same here in SW Oregon, we go from low 20’s overnight to about 60 for a high mid-day. But, we just have snow in the surrounding hills. Beauty without the hassle.
Your Grand Canyon fotos are mystical, the zebra heard comical, but the look on Sierra’s face priceless! For next week I’d like 7570 the score Mission Hills HS received in this weekends Drumline competition.
Thanks Jeff. Sierra is quite entertaining. #7570 for next week.
Was fun seeing the horses from your former life. I guess Bill did ok picking such a low number! I just did random number generator for next week and got 173, so apparently everybody, real or robot, wants me to see your older pictures ….. I loved all the beautiful scenery, from everywhere, today, but my favorite is the zebra jam! Also the bones…did you work on the dig?
Low numbers do usually go farther back. I didn’t work on the dig but did talk to the folks there about volunteering and they were open to that. #173 for next week.
