This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes images chosen by 12 readers featuring geology and erosion similarities around the world.
TreDeuce chose #1937, “The year a city, Guernica, occupied by civilians, was aerial bombed, introducing a new level of lethality in modern warfare culminating in the horrific destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.” That kind of horrific action would most certainly leave a darker sky then this morning storm over Grand Canyon taken from the North Rim Lodge 8-28-10.
Susie chose #1977, “the year I met my wonderful husband. My life is so very different than it would have been because of him.” One of those life changing events centers around her living in Saudi Arabia where I don’t believe she would see a landscape like these meadows edged with golden fall-leafed Aspens and evergreen trees as seen on the North Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Jennifer chose #2002. I don’t think these kinds of sandstone Toadstools are found near her Canadian home. Just one of the many erosional features seen at White Pocket on the Paria Plateau in northern Arizona. Also a rare patch of shade for Bill’s dog Sasha on a warm May day.
Jo chose #2700. She’s no stranger to low clouds over the Drakensberg Mountains near her South African home. Yet this cloudy scene surrounds Sky Island, a pinnacle of rock seen from the Walhalla overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Jim and Diana chose #1006. They seem to like and visit historic sites so would probably enjoy the Aguereberry camp and Eureka Mine at Death Valley National Park.
George chose #1924. The sandstone formations are similar to the SW but this more moist environment at Golden Gate Highlands National Park in South Africa showed way more lush green vegetation. This magnificent view was from the Echo Ravine Trail during February 2013.
Lisa chose #8457. On a morning drive in Mountain Zebra National Park, South Africa, low clouds back-dropped the Springbuck grazing.
Jodee and Bill chose #8190. Grand Canyon views happen if you venture out of the park onto the Kaibab National Forest. This from Parissawampitts Point along the Rainbow Rim looking west.
Rita chose #8888. An attempt at shooting the Milky Way from the North Rim Grand Canyon. I really need to try more of this.
Jeff chose #4219, “the date Google will shut down Google+ activity.” Please don’t jump off a cliff over this. Instead read his excellent post for suggestions. Saw this sign at West Coast National Park, South Africa.
Sallie and Bill chose #2219, “because yesterday was the actual birth day of our newest great-grandson!” Congrats on this awesome event! May he someday travel and enjoy the outdoors as much as his grandparents. And maybe some day, see views like this near my Toroweap camp along the rim of Grand Canyon.
Yogi also chose #1977, “cuz that is the year I left New Mexico for Texas.” He’s probably seen similar landscapes to White Pocket. Same day as Jennifer’s choice above and same dog.
Diane and Nigel chose #702. Wire Pass on the way to Buckskin Gulch was my first experience in a slot canyon and I loved it.
My choice, a sunset shot from this week that just screamed at me to play with it like an un-starry night. I had to search hard for special effects on my computer as I’m kind of a purist when it comes to photography. This is an oil painting from PhotoShop.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
I like them all. Glad to see you venturing out into digital editing in a big way.
My number for next week is 2222. Generally I like prime numbers but I like it.
Thanks. I used to play with editing a lot but now I don’t have any software for it. #2222 for next week.
Geez! They’re all great, Toroweap, White Pocket, Wire Pass, vistas both terrestrial and celestial. I have can pick no favorite this week.
Next week I’d like 1224 the Christmas Eve in 1775 Padre Font observed the view from the point that would bear his name, noting in his diary “the sweepings of the earth”.
Thanks Jeff. #1224 for next week. I love that view.
I LOVE that last pic! You did a great job…in taking the picture and in the editing.
Thanks Sandy. Was rather fun to play with that one.
We had never seen a slot canyon until we visited the USA and met up with you, they are just amazing and although we love that last shot, our photo is still our favourite. Sorry, we are not keeping up very well at the moment!! 902 for next week please. Happy Sunday, Diane and Nigel
Strange I have to go to tab again to post a comment, have not done so for months!!
I’d be certain slot canyons are found in many parts of the world. #902 for next week. I deactivated a plugin and that might be causing that problem. Thanks for the heads up.
I really want to get back up to Kanab and surrounds, it’s such a diverse and beautiful area that we didn’t do justice our last visit. Love the pic of the canyon.
That oil paint effect is awesome and you chose the perfect photo for it!
# 201 for next week please.
Yes, much to see and do in the Kanab area, just too bloody hot mid-summer making for a small window for a long list. #201 for next week.
I loved the slot on the way to Buckskin. I’ll play this week 4315 sorta when we got Mattie
Thanks. #4315 for next week.
I don’t even know where to start gushing today Gaelyn. Seems every picture is even more amazing than the last. The dog gazing out at white canyon is great, the slot canyon makes me want to be there (and SA always does, it is so lovely). And your enhanced photo turned out fantastic … starless, starless night! Fun.
And I loved our Toroweap photo and hope baby Easton does grow up to love travel. His mom (our granddaughter) and her brothers all have traveled extensively, so they took after us . But the baby’s grandparents (our daughter and SIL) are homebodies! (All that just to explain how ancient we are). Let’s go 733 next week, if you still have room. I’m very late visiting.
Thank you. Keep passing those travel genes. #733 got next week.
