This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers and focuses almost exclusively on the Colorado Plateau.
Jim and Diana chose #904, one of two in a panorama from my first visit to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park near Kanab, Utah. I didn’t stay long as was a rainy August day.
Rita chose #7598. Quite frequently the sunset colors mimic the colors of the canyon walls. Taken 9-14-14 from the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Lisa chose #2176. From a most unusual place, the Owl House in Nieu-Bethesda South Africa, full of collections of many things glass, or made of glass, or broken glass. Certainly worth the visit.
Jennifer chose #743. An early monsoon storm over the Painted Desert of the Navajo Nation taken through the windshield on SR89 North.
Diane and Nigel chose #2501. Part of a tree root. Sometimes I think the photo will look different/better than it does. Oh well, it’s all about practice.
Sallie and Bill chose #1220. Shadow shots are fun. Do you see me standing on Navajo Bridge?
TreDeuce chose #1792, “the year Mary Wollistonecraft published ‘A Vindication of the Rights of Women’ delineating the inalienable rights of women and establishing the profound arguments for the modern women’s movement.” Thanks to Mary and others I am an independent, modern womyn. And yes, I shoot while driving, mostly just point, push and pray. I notice that some frequently driven routes get more photographic attention than others. This is the well traveled return home from Prescott over the Bradshaw Mountains route along Iron Springs Road.
Susie chose #5555. When locating a boondock-camp I try to pay attention to views and direction. The Sonoran Desert near Ajo, Arizona provided several options including this sunset. This is a very different desert than she sees in Saudi Arabia.
Yogi chose #1919, “the year Leonard Bernstein was born. He would have been a 100 years old this year.” If I was nearer New York City I’d lay this monkey flower on his grave. It grew along the River walk trail in Zion National Park, Utah.
Jo chose #1302, “My birth date!” I call these hoodoos the rock people, and can almost hear them singing happy birthday to you. Hiking the trails in Bryce Canyon National Park I was surrounded by the rock people.
Jeff chose #6000, “the official estimate of Americans crossing daily into Algodones for dental visits.” And I have been among them in the past. Yet would rather hike Willis Creek trail, which I haven’t done yet, off the Skutumpah Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah.
My choice this week, a fun shot out the front door when the sun shines on the crystals and makes rainbows.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
1937 _ The year a city, Guernica, occupied by civilians, was aerial bombed, introducing a new level of lethality in modern warfare culminating in the horrific destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
#1937 it is.
Fun collection as always. How about #1977 – the year I met my wonderful husband. My life is so very different than it would have been because of him.
Thanks. #1977 for next week. Definitely life changing.
These are wonderful, as ever. I love the monsoon. “Oh, the places you’ve been!” #2002
Thanks. Monsoon brings a time of drama to the skies. #2002 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, thanks for the rock people’s happy birthday song! I loved the photo of the Owl House. Brings back memories of Grant and I visiting the same strange place on the motor bike! My favorite is the Skutumpah Road image. My number for next week is 2700 as it’s the first number to pop into my head as I type. Jo
I wish Joan and I had more time to explore Nieu-Bethesda beyond the crazy Owl House. #2700 for next week.
How appropriate for a couple of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore VIP’s. Looks like the Dune Climb at SLBE. 😊
Let’s do 1006 for next week.
I don’t remember your Sleeping Bear sand being this red. In fact the Coral Pink VC has a wonderful display of sand from around the world. #1006 for next week.
More wonderful photos, I would like to choose #1924 for next6 week please.
Thanks. #1924 for next week.
The monkey flower was my favorite this week. In such a stunning place, it’s amazing you even looked down long enough to see it. Number 8457 please for me next week!
No matter where I am, I look at the big and the small. #8457 for next week.
My favorite is the Bryce shot. Lots of wonderful photos. all of them good, (even the root) but sometimes a particular one triggers a memory. Nice memories.
Thanks. Bryce is one of the parks I applied to for the summer.
Photo choice for today, Jeff’s #6000. Reminds me of many memorable hikes through, and camps in washes and pressure ridges.
A Flagstaff friend hiked Willis Creek and said it was easy, just a few wet places, and some slot.
And ‘Willis Creek’ is where.

Love the clouds over the painted desert! Your last shot is great fun. I haven’t been putting out my crystals and tiny chimes and need to remember to do that 🙂
#8190 for next week please.
In the 5th-wheel I had many crystals in every window. I love those sunny rainbows. #8190 for next week.
Yes, me too I love crystals, minerals and rocks. The crystals look lovely shining outside your door. Glorious photos all of them Gaelyn. Love the rock people at Bryce Canyon National Park. Its my favourite !!. No 8888 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks Rita. Those crystals even throw rainbows through the door glass and into the house. To hike among the rock people is magic. #8888 for next week.
Always fun variety of pictures to enjoy. But Bryce is special for many reasons. I saw my first total solar eclipse there. Watching the ‘Ring of Fire’ and ‘Diamond Ring’ (June 2012) from almost that same spot above the hoodoos. For next week I’d like 4219 (April 4 2019) the date Google will shut down Google+ activity.
Thanks Jeff. Bryce would be great for night sky, their Rangers do a lot of astronomy stuff. It’s one of the parks I’ve applied to for summer. I was at Grand Canyon for that eclipse. #4219 for next week. What are you going to do instead of Google+?
Not sure what I’ll do without Google+. I took a brief look around last December when the initial announcement was made, but until I received a notice that ALL my Google+ will be deleted I didn’t get too serious. Now it’s time to get serious!
Lots of memories this time, of places where we’ve RVd … all too long ago now! Loved the Bryce Canyon ‘people’, from one of our favorite ever places. I do see your shadow on the bridge! I read all the comments and love the unique ways people come up with numbers for next week (people who are all more creative than I)….but this time I will take 2219 because yesterday was the actual birth day of our newest great-grandson!
Congrats on your newest family member! Perfect for your #2219.
This post really makes me miss the southwest. I love the deserts and the dry mountains.
My number for next week, if it is not too late, 1977, cuz that is the year I left New Mexico for Texas.
I think the desert gets into our soul. Not Texas though. #1977 for next week.
I think Friday passed me by somehow and now I cannot get the photos to download we seem to have an extra slow connection, I will be back. I see the there is mention of the owl house, I have your PC sent from there on the board next to my desk 🙂 In case I have trouble downloading again 702 for next/this week please.
Aha just discovered after sending you a message I have to use the tab key again!!!
This retirement thing means I barely know what day of the week it is. #702 for next week.
