This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers and includes some diverse views of Grand Canyon, South African wildlife, and this New Year’s Eve Arizona snowstorm.
Diane and Nigel chose #2812. A Jackal Buzzard, a bird I believe they would recognize from South Africa. This bird at Mountain Zebra National Park was chasing a meal.
George chose #2019. From September, 2010, my first visit to the Tuweep overlook with a pastel sunset. You saw me in a photo standing at the rim last week from the same trip.
Sue chose #2113. Taken the next morning from the above shot and this time can see the Colorado River upstream. This is such a beautiful remote place to visit it’s a good thing the road in is bumpy and advertised as worse.
Rita chose #4000. What better for Valentines Day 2014 than a pair of giraffe in Kruger National Park South Africa.
Gayle chose #5809. A row of campsites at Leisure View Caravan Park, level, grassy, shaded, and a short walk to the Indian Ocean view in South Africa.
Yogi chose #4711. He seems to be attracted to interesting architecture so should like this Dutch Revival church, probably at least 100 years old, in Stellenbosch a town I enjoyed very much in South Africa.
Jennifer chose #8271. All that was missing was the rainbow as monsoon storms approached Parissawampitts Point along the Rainbow Rim trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Pam and John chose #1282, one of three images in a panorama. This iconic view from the North Rim Grand Lodge features the Deva, Brahma, and Zoroaster temples with the San Francisco Peaks looming on the horizon.
Sallie and Bill chose #92. The Clearwater Valley has blasted by the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens then replanted and studied by foresters. Always saw a lot of elk in this valley when I worked at St Helens in 1992.
My choice from New Year’s Eve when the morning dawned with subtle color before turning a solid gray.
Then by 9am the roads were white and slick as I was suppose to take a friend to Prescott, up hill another 2000 feet.
But instead went down 2000 feet south to Wickenburg. Though the Weaver Mountains were dusted in white when returning home. I live at the top.
New Year’s day dawned icy cold and clear with Venus below a crescent moon.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Can’t thank you enough for playing along, many of you for the long haul of 300 Foto Friday Fun posts.
Did I really miss a week? How is that possible? Darn! Well the giraffes are my favorite this week. What a fantastic picture. Love seeing your sunrises and sparkles. Glad you have a place to be warm and cozy during the cold and snow. 7172 for next week please.
Seems like you’ve been a little busy lately. I too am glad to be in a warm house with night temps into the tweens. #7172 for next week.
I too love the giraffes, that snow and cold does not look like fun..
lets try 1519 for next week please.
I’d much rather be in the warmth of summer with the giraffes. #1519 for next week.
I cannot believe it is Friday, again!
Wow, you have captured such amazing shots. What a work life that let you play! Just amazing!
For next week: #6924. (I remembered!)
Where does the time go? More quickly when retired it seems. #6924 for next week.
Wow, have we really picked 300 photos along the way for FotoFridayFun!! Hard once again to pick a favourite but we both love our shot of the jackal buzzard. Wish we were there now instead of in the UK!! Love the Monsoon over the canyon always a dramatic shot, a rainbow would have just been the icing on the top. 401 for next week please. Keep warm, Diane and Nigel.
I would rather be enjoying summer in SA than these winters we’re in. #401 for next week.
Happy New Year! Love all your photos. Your choice of the cloud silhouette is so surreal. #4023 for next week, please.
Thanks. #4023 for next week.
re: #92 … is that taken from the SE side of Mt St Helens? I play a tune called, Clearwater Stomp. It’s fun to see what comes up with a number…campsites in SA? How about #7517 for next week.
Yes, #92 of the Clearwater Valley is on the SE side of Mt St Helens. Is that stomp or stump? Camping is very popular in South Africa. They call bumperpull trailers caravans. Lots of private parks and in their national parks also. #7517 next week.
I actually really liked my choice of the canyon photo. Such blue skies. Then again the giraffes were very cool. Love photos of them, even in a wildlife park much less in the wild. Your snow has been impressive, but I am very glad I am not there right now. Who knows how it will be at the end of January. Things shift all the time and the weather is completely unpredictable!
The giraffes and other wildlife I share are wild, running free in South Africa’s national parks. People who visit are in the cage, their vehicle, and you are not to get out. Thank goodness the snow is melting. Though I believe another storm is coming tomorrow. No number this week?
Giraffes are always the most delightful!! I love your sparkly snowy yard, and glad you’re tucked in warm.
Much easier to like sparkly snow when it’s not outside your door. #1480 for next week.
Oops! #1480 for next week please.
The giraffes are so adorable walking down the road. The monsoon rain photo is spectacular!! Our Grand Canyon pano is so pretty.
Next week #1004
I love monsoon season. #1004 for next week.
Happy New Year my friend! We liked ‘our’ photo — a reminder of our home on the other side of the country from where we are now. I could not believe the temperatures in your state — good grief. Bill has a sister in the Phoenix area and she was not a happy camper when we talked to her New Years Day. Thanks for all the beautiful scenery — and the wonderful giraffes. #208 next time?
It’s been far too cold and another storm is heading this way. I’ll bet Bill’s sister didn’t like to see the white stuff so nearby. #208 for next time.
Great photos!!! I love the monsoon pic of the canyon especially.
Next week, my number is 152
Thanks. #152 for next week.
Always a nice variety of photos, but the two from Toroweep Overlook just inspire awe this morning. For next week I’d like today’s date 106, (Jan 6 2019), Three Kings Day celebrated in Mexico with gifts and feasts.
I highly recommend a visit to Toroweap for inspiration. #106 for this week.
As always… great pics, Gaelyn.
My brother was not to happy about the colder weather in The Valley of the Sun as it is driving up his energy bill. His wife is unhappy because he won’t boost the thermostat high enough for her personal comfort. They live in Sun City West.
Me… I love snow, as long as I don’t have to work in it, and I have, too, often. Built a log home one winter in the Columbia River Gorge.
Snow hikes have been some of my most memorable experiences, though, cameras don’t like that environment as you no doubt know.
Would no doubt enjoy meeting up with you for lunar event and will be traveling through that area a little later, so, unfortunately, a close miss.
1066 ‘The Battle of Hastings’ for next week.
Thank you. I’m sure most in the Valley aren’t happy about the cold, although some of the photographers are heading up into the snow. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and had enough snow to last a lifetime.
Keep me posted as I’m not sure how long I’ll hang around in southern AZ.
#1066 for this week.
Brrr! Chicago area in the winter, can’t figure how anyone puts up with it. Lake effect winds, months of snow, arctic vortex.
As I have mentioned before, I grew up in the Okanogan Valley back when it had serious winters. 6-ft + of snow, 65 – degrees below zero with arctic winds.
Spent the winters shoveling out the quarter mile long driveway and paths to the barns, sheds, wood pile. But, we had our own ski and sledding hill with plenty of town kids to enjoy it with.
5-years in the Columbia River Gorge back when it had serious winters pretty much capped off my daily winter experiences.
Will try to contact you as to your whereabouts when I travel through the SW.
For the trail hounds and hiking photographers in your group, Gaelyn, I recommend the app ‘All Trails’ for thousands of trails in 102 countries.
The information provided is comprehensive with lengths, elevation gain, difficulty, trail condition, viewpoints with user pics uploaded.
It’s my go to for on the road trail finding and planning.
Hi Gaelyn, Lovely dramatic photo’s this week Love em all.!! Everyone seems to like my choice of the Giraffes and although they are tall and lanky they somehow appear to me, sort of elegant. My favourite is the Monsoon storms on the North rim Grand Canyon. No 7934 f9or next week please.
Thanks Rita. Giraffes are graceful. And I love storms at the canyon too. #7934 for this week.
