This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers and includes quite a bit of red rock and a hide-n-seek leopard.
TreDeuce chose #1187, one of two in a panorama. Any time I drive over Navajo Bridge I stop to look upstream—this shot—and down stream while keeping an eye out for California Condors.
And as a special request, “in memory of my daughter who died this last weekend, could you select a picture from your archives.” I am sorry for your loss. I chose Starve Rock State Park in Illinois where I grew up and spent much time absorbing a powerful energy from a place that called to me from the past, a life I would later recall. (If you’re interested in that story open this link.
George chose #918. A lovely view of the Grand Staircase Escalante to the north of SR89 between Kanab, Utah and Page, Arizona.
Rita chose #5597. Nice looking pool I didn’t swim in at Wild Coast Sun in Port Edward, South Africa. I was there to see the Mzamba fossil site.
Jodee and Bill chose #7211. Double lucky when a rainbow is seen at Grand Canyon.
Jennifer chose #9791. No, it’s not a photo of a bent culvert. Look closely, almost dead center, for the spots of a Leopard hiding at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa.
Jeff chose #925 for “Wednesday Sept. 25, 1889 Temple Beth Israel opened its doors in San Diego and continues to open its doors to all faiths.” I look at nature as my church and it’s certainly open to all. The Cockscombs along SR89 near House Rock Valley is like a cathedral.
Sallie and Bill chose #6858. Smoke on the South Rim and out of the park during a prescribed burn as seen from the North Rim.
Sherry and David chose #9999. I invite them, and you, to step into the forest on the Ken Patrick Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Diane and Nigel chose #2112. My first visit to Toroweap, but not last. The long gravel road is slow but worth the iconic view 3000 feet down into Grand Canyon and the Colorado River.
My choice this week from a quick stop at Granite Basin Lake in the Prescott National Forest on the way home.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.

Some great pics here Gaelyn especially of Grand Canyon. I do love the one of the rainbow at the Canyon. Favourite this week is the one of you looking into Grand Canyon and Colorado River. No 4000 for next week.Thanks. Have a good week end also wishing you a very Happy New Year.
Thanks Rita. Can’t miss with a rainbow. #4000 for next week.
Yes, stunning! At first, I thought ‘typical, a culvert!’
Your travels are amazing!
Good eye. Wildlife isn’t always obvious, as you know.
I’m not very good at picking spectacular photos! #8271 My memory isn’t very good, either!
It’s always just the luck of the draw. I take the oldest photo with the number. #8271 for next week. Thanks for playing along.
Thank you for sharing your visit to the past…
My favorite photo this week was also that of you looking into the Grand Canyon from Toroweap.
I’d like 5809 for next week. and Happy New Year!
Thank you for reading, commenting, and being here. Hope we cross trails again this winter. #5809 for next week.
My favorite is the Ken Patrick trail shot. I cannot resist a trail like that.
Next week I am number 4711!
The Ken Patrick trail will take you deep into the forest. #4711 for next week.
Lots of beautiful photos. Love your choice for this week.
Happy New Year!
#1282
Thanks. Lots of hiking around Granite Basin Lake if you’re camped near Prescott. #1282 for next week.
Thanks, Gaelyn for the extra picture in memory of my daughter. Appreciated.
Most of this Fridays page wouldn’t load?
You’re welcome. I don’t understand the loading problem.
Thank you Gaelyn and Happy New Year (or Happy Always, as a dear and talented blog friend commented on mine recently*) . I liked the prescribed burn photo, because I remember the first time we passed one of those years ago… we came up in the Smoky era, when all fire and smoke was scary and bad. It is good we know better now (back to the ways of the ancients who always did). *Thanks for that perfect Holiday wish, (Merry Everything and Happy Always) which I loved and will continue to steal.
It is good we better understand the importance of fire. Now we need to stop moving into the middle of forests without being prepared for fire. The wish is sincere and was stolen by me as well. #92 for you. Hang on tight and wear your life jacket.
92 for next week? I think it’s approximately the number of words in this comment. (We’re on the boat and it’s bouncing).
