This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by eight readers including a couple run down old houses, northern Arizona canyon country, and South African wildlife.
Diane and Nigel chose #510. This is presumably what’s left of the cabin where Ed Abbey lived below the fire lookout tower on the North Rim Grand Canyon during the late 60s early 70s. A shame the park has let it slowly rot away.
Pam and John chose #1005, one of five in a panorama. The clouds seem to hang in this stormy sky to the East of Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Gail chose #1009, the date she left “for a trip around a small portion of the southwest.” Hope you’ll share where you’ve been. Like maybe Death Valley National Park where you can visit the Eureka Mine and see this run down old house.
Jodee and Bill chose #6221. Although visitors to Grand Canyon are often disappointed by foggy days I always found them exciting. Inversion lends a certain mystery and magic to the canyon as clouds swirl around Wotans Throne seen from Cape Royal. (My favorite this week.)
Sherry and David chose #9118. After hiking a few miles this is the final approach to The Wave. Guess this hiker was tired or just happy to have made it.
Jeff chose #2755, “the number of miles on the RV so far this year.” I have no where near that many this almost traveless year. But in 2010 when this was taken I could have easily logged that many miles just driving to and from the North Rim across the Kaibab National Forest.
Rita chose #9537. Look closely for the Springbok at Augrabies Falls where I celebrated my 60th birthday in South Africa.
Yogi chose #1718. Heading East soon to turn South on State Route 89A with Vermilion Cliffs to the left and Echo Cliffs straight ahead. This shot from 9-28-09 could be also be from then to 2017.
My choice from Monday night’s sunset over the Weaver Mountains outside my door.

As always, such a wide variety of stunning photos. The clouds hanging over the canyon are just so dreamy. And I love the Wave rock formation.
For next week, I choose #1019 – That’s my birthday, a week from today!
Thanks Susie. I love when there’s inversion at the canyon. #1019 for your birthday next week.
Beautiful shots, as always. I like the picture of Ed Abbey’s cabin and the clouds in the cliffs. There’s something special about the contrast between fluffy clouds and red sandstone. I’ll choose 1030 for next week.
Thanks. I too like that contrast. #1030 for next week.
That is the perfect canyon shot for us – we love the variety that fog gives to the views. The Springbok is so delicate. It’s amazing who can survive in the harshest places.
#8211 for next week please.
I do like the stormy views. #8211 for next week.
Great photos as always and now I am intrigued by Edward Abbey’s old cabin. He was quite the author and a character. I think I lived as a kid in Price, Utah not all that far from where he worked near Moab.
Thanks. Sadly there is a lack of money for renovations. #7659 for next week.
So your comment did come through. I added your number. Now I’m wondering if my answers get back to your email?
I love them all!
Thanks. You should play along. No pressure. 😉
Our photo choice looks too familiar. We saw this sky most of the last ten days. Not pleasant! Monument Valley looked like the Grand Canyon photo that was Bill and Jodee’s choice this morning as we drove through. Such a neat sight. Beautiful sunset you captured, Gaelyn!
# 3101 next week
I like the clouds but not necessarily the rain and especially after days and days on end. #3101 for next week.
Wonderful set of photos. On phone as laptop out of order! 1210 for next week please. Diane and Nigel
Thanks. Sorry to hear about your laptop. Did you get the Fatal Error message on your phone? #1210 for next week.
Yes, I got the same message on the phone!!!
Well I’ll try commenting the ‘old fashion’ way and see if it works. (It didn’t) I’m picking my first photo ever but I have always enjoyed looking at those chosen every Friday.
#612 next week.
Your comment came through, even if you got the Fatal Error message. #612 for next week. Thanks for playing along.
In 5 attempts I have not been rewarded with a permit for the Wave. The harsh beaut of Death Valley is always captivating.
Whoot-Whoot RAIN in San Diego, for next week I’d like 2117 the final score of the lightening delayed SDSU vs Air Force football game.
I was fortunate to go to the Wave with a volunteer. Raining right now here. #2117 for next week.
Love the foggy canyon shot. Really beautiful as is the approach to The Wave. The Wave is SO on my bucket list and has been for the past 8 years as I continue to be unable to get there I read about how over run it is and how scheduled you have to be to go. I’ll try 8473 for next week please.
I went to the Wave with Bill as a volunteer and didn’t find it over run but it is difficult to get a permit. Yet there is so much equally beautiful land to see that doesn’t require a permit. #8473 for next week.
Lovely variety of photo’s here Gaelyn. Sorry for late reply have had family here for my birthday so did not do much on the computer. My favourite this week is that beautiful sunset over the Weaver mountains, its stunning. No 3985 for next week Thanks.
How lovely to celebrate your birthday with family. #3985 for you this week. Happy belated Birthday!!! Keep on celebrating!
That red sky is incredible! I can’t believe I missed a whole week here — October is a busy month for us — away from the house a lot with a bunch of nonsense that has to be done. Am way behind on blogs. If I am not too late I will take t=622 because that is what time it is at this moment. (I am so boring.)
Thanks. You are anything but boring. I imagine you’re thinking about a trip back to FL. #622 for you.
