This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by seven readers including South Africa, canyons, and a blast from the past.
Diane and Nigel chose #2109. While visiting South Africa in 2013, it had been on my list to visit the Owl House and its unusual sculptures. We almost drove past the turn off when Joan saw a sign reading “fossils” and knew I’d be interested. And so we visited the little community of Nieu-Bethesda with a stop for fossils at Ganora Farm. I can’t begin to explain the Owl House, so if you haven’t read about it before, follow the link.
Jeff chose #921, “as Coronado CA 92118 celebrates with its first millennial ZIP code party.” Does look like it was an interesting party but I’d rather hang out where there’s no zip code and watch life. Saw this guy at Kruger National Park during my visit in 2010.
Sallie and Bill get #51 for the number of words in their comment. From 1987, one of my watercolors from a class at Shoreline Community College in Washington.
Sherry and David chose #922. Another waterfall for Sherry. A look upstream to Mooney Falls. After climbing down a crazy, slippery wall with ladders and playing at the base of the falls for a while the “trail” continued downstream in Havasu Creek and Canyon.
Rita chose #6531. I’ve always loved the far view eastward past Brady Peak and across Grand Canyon to the green looking Navajo Reservation and beyond to Echo Cliffs. While visiting the North Rim this view is seen from the Vista Encantada picnic area along the road to Cape Royal.
Yogi gets #17 for the number of words in his comment. In 1975 my bald-headed Dad may have looked old but sill love his toys. In this shot he’s setting up a slot-car track in the dining room. We used to race around the dinning room table for hours.
Jodee and Bill chose #7401. Although they’ve been enjoying the lush, wet and humid East coast they may be hankering for some SW rock and sand. A diversion from the Upper Buckskin trail in Utah lead to this most amazing landscape and a Juniper for a shady lunch.
My choice this week is the July image in my 2019 calendar. Arizona Highways also used this image on their blog with this article about expanding the season at the North Rim Grand Canyon. That suggestion comes from Kane County (read Kanab) who would like to increase their 4-season tourism business. However, the North Rim wasn’t built for winter.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. (Is anyone still getting the “Fatal Error” message or having problems commenting?)
Do you have a favorite this week?

As always I love all your photos, but the last one is particularly stunning. Having said that, I also love ours, I wish I had been to the Owl House but I have the card you sent me always reminding me of your visit. I am sure the fossils were with missing the turn-off. Keep warm, it is cooling down here now though today looks reasonable. 2809 for next week please. It will be a quiet week as N is flying to the UK for a week to try and sort out his father’s future! Nigel and Diane.
Were worth missing the turn-off!! Diane.
The Owl House was a most unusual place and the fossils at Garnora were phenomenal. With mornings at 60°F I feel Fall in the air. All the best to Nigel. #2809 for next week.
What an unusual statue at the Owl House! I always enjoy photos of the Canyon. I hope we get there again on a motorcycle trip with a stop at Jacobs Lake. Sorry I have been absent responding.
Next week: # 2809
This Owl House statue wasn’t the most unusual. The whole place was interesting and strange. From your new home it’s an easy ride to the North Rim, and cookies at Jacob Lake. #2809 for next week.
Again all great photos, but Mooney Falls reminds me time is getting short to complete the bucket list!
Next week I’d like 7070 as Fran and I each turn 70.
Thanks. Havasu should be on your list. Look at their website for the who, what, and where’s. #7070 for next week.
Once again, so many great pictures. I love the first one of the pottery. And the next one of the giraffe. And the next one of your watercolor. You are just so artistic. Of course the waterfalls are perfect for me. Maybe some day you and I can go see that one in person together. Love your lightning photograph as well. How about # 1625 for next week?
Thanks. I’d love to return to Havasu with you. Might have to take the helicopter out if we don’t go soon. 😉 #1625 for next week.
Great shots, including the one of your Dad. My favorite is the canyon view going in your calendar.
My number for next week is 3516
Thanks. #3516 for next week.
Fabulous photo’s and love the one I chose for last week of the Canyon of course. However my favourite this week is the Mooney Falls. I always wanted to be able to stand underneath one of these fabulous water falls. Niagra may be a little bit scary though. No 1185 for next weeks foto Friday. Enjoy your weekend Gaelyn.
Thanks Rita. Sadly the pools under these falls are rather deep and more for swimming. #1185 for next week.
Again, your choice is my favorite. I love watching stormy skies, and the ones over the canyon are hard to beat!! What a gorgeous shot. Yes, we’re enjoying the green of the east coast, but definitely looking forward to our return to the desert in a few months. That first pic is wonderful, she really draws me in.
#3211 for next week please.
Thanks. All those Owl House sculptures are intriguing. Looks like storm clouds coming next week here. Maybe AZ will get a little of that green. #3211 for next week.
You have amazing photos!
Thank you.
Thank you for the iris! A favorite flower and beautiful in your watercolor. That lightning photo is amazing — congrats for getting it published . Beautiful SW landscapes, so lovely. I forgot to add in my comment on your later post above that the butterfly tree made me gasp — incredible!! 1018 for next week? if I am not too late.
Thank you for reading, commenting and playing along. I was rather excited to have Arizona Highways use my photo. And yes, the butterfly experience was simply over the top. Lots going on in our little community.
