This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including the reds of changing season, a “Place of Great Noise”, and the 2019 calendar cover shot.
Rita chose #8798. Fall is in the air and also in October 2014 when this wild Geranium brightened the forest floor at Grand Canyon National Park.
Jodee and Bill get #56 for the number of words in their comment. And being they’ve been visiting eastern cities probably haven’t seen too many cows lately. This one lived at the California Living Museum where I was a volunteer animal keeper in Bakersfield, California. The wildlife I worked with were way more interesting than the barnyard animals.
Gail chose #7118. Saw these Red Hartebeest at Karoo National Park along with a lot of other wildlife during my 2014 visit.
Yogi chose #1437, one of four in a panorama because this gigantic Ponderosa pine is too big for just one photo. As a Ranger on the North Rim I called this 300 year old giant the ‘Candelabra Tree’ and stopped along my nature walk to talk about the Kaibab Squirrel found living in the pines.
Sallie and Bill chose #733, “the time right now.” And this would have been the time for monsoon season to begin towards the end of June, 2009. Driving under big skies across the Navajo Reservation along SR89 in Arizona.
Sherry and David chose #9118. They love waterfalls, and who doesn’t. If this video loads properly you’ll be seeing and hearing the big thunder of the Orange River just before dropping over Augrabies Falls. There had been much rain and the water ran high when I visited during March 2014.
Diane and Nigel chose #1609. This might be a familiar landscape as they honeymooned in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa. I camped at Monks Cowl with this view before an overnight hike into these lush mountains.
Jeff chose #1002, “for the first time number of legitimate views on my little blog broke 1000.” That is quite a milestone. And if I was near Jacob Lake Inn I’d buy you a cookie, share a pic on FB, and then eat it in your name. If you’re ever on your way to the North Rim Grand Canyon, stop here. It’s usually more crowded but this shot was taken April 18, 2009 before the national park was open.
Lisa chose #6543 bringing us back to fall colors of the Barberry or Oregon Grape leaves on the Kaibab Plateau of northern Arizona taken 7-20-15.
Between clear skies, working on the calendar, trying to photograph jewelry product, and lack of traveling, I don’t have a whole lot of new shots. So my choice this week is the cover of the 2019 calendar. I’ll be working on the layout this weekend and send it off for publishing. Check Monday for price, availability, and ordering information.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.

Love all this week’s photos but excluding the last one which is brilliant, I like ours best. I love the Drakensberg, it is a beautiful place and yes great memories of our honeymoon. We also got lost there one year, and we were hoping that the hotel might realise we were missing and send out a search party when we finally found the right track home. We were following a route but guess somewhere we made a mistake!!!
Hope you have a great weekend. 2109 for next week please. Take care, Diane and Nigel.
I was so happy to see the Drakensberg show up for your number. I would be easy to get lost there, intentionally or not. #2109 for next week.
I still haven’t figured out why the Fatal Error occurs but am glad the comments come through anyway. My blog guru has been busy lately.
All great photos with a waterfall video as a bonus. But I cast a vote for the Candelabra Ponderosa. I’d like today’s date for next week 921 as Coronado CA 92118 celebrates with its first millennial ZIP code party. Mark you calendar for the next one 9.21.2118!
That is one of the coolest 300 year-old Ponderosas I’ve ever met. #921 for next week.
Really like the candelabra tree and the wildlife and scenery all of it. ‘our’ picture makes me want to jump in the camper and head off on a roadtrip. Forget all the other stuff I’m supposed to be doing here. The cover shot is a terrific choice. I’ll be back Monday.
Always a good time for a road trip.
That is an absolutely fabulous cover photo for the calendar. Just stunning!! I LOVE my waterfall video. WOW! And really like the Monks Cowl view. How about # 922 for next week?
I’m happy with all the calendar shots. Yarnell locals may like that cover. #922 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, Love the stormy photo’s here but have chosen the Navajo Reservation, Arizona for this weeks favourite, also like your cover photo for the calendar superb ! No 6531 for next week please. Enjoy your weekend.
I do love cloudy skies. #6531 for next week.
I love them all, what can I say? If pressed, I’ll pick the big ponderosa pine tree.
It’s an awesome tree.
We all had great pics again this week, but your choice is definitely my favorite!! We’ve actually seen cows in New Jersey this week. Not as fun as wildlife, but such sweet faces 🙂
#7401 for next week please.
Seems like Jersey would be an appropriate place to see cows. 😉 #7401 for you.
